Villa Markisa, an exclusive resort located on the northeast coast of Bali. Nestled at the foot of Bali’s most famous volcano “Gunung Agung", the private bungalows offer individual service and great attention to detail. Dive Bali’s most famous site, Tulamben’s USS Liberty shipwreck just minutes away with a high-speed tender boat. For scuba divers who prefer critters, “Seraya Secrets” is directly in front of the resort's beach and numerous other excellent dive sites are minutes away! We do our best to ensure the safety of our guests and employees. In addition to measures such as more frequent cleaning and disinfection of rooms and public areas, we also provide some precautions for our cars, restaurant, bar and the dive center. As our resort is very spacious it is easy to maintain social distances. A major advantage of Villa Markisa is that our guests are always outside, except when in their own rooms. We are looking forward to welcoming our guests again. Certainly they can spend a wonderful and relaxing holiday in Villa Markisa and remain safe.

We were unfortunately only there for 5 days, but certainly not the last time. The facility is a dream, you can clearly see how much love and passion Christiane, Petro and the manager Petr bring here.
At first glance, the price may be quite high, but if you are "allowed to experience" the stay it is worth every penny. - Each dive pair/room has its own dive guide with which to arrange their dives. You are quick to the dive sites, the boats are real boats for divers and very convenient in terms of entry and exit. - The food is excellent and there is a lot of consideration for the individual wishes (I eat vegetarian, for example). Breakfast is a la carte, for lunch there are 4-5 dishes (+ dessert) to choose from, in the evening there is buffet. In the afternoon, coffee, small pieces of cake and slices are offered. - If you book a massage, you get a sarong placed on the room. - The garden is a dream with countless retreats. - The rooms are very lovingly decorated and everything is very clean and tidy. In the bathroom there is a drinking water dispenser (19 l) and for each guest there is a separate (steel) water bottle for the stay.
I find the review of Kay B. from February 2023 a bit strange. It was noted that so many Swiss guests (Swiss private club) were present and Kay B. did not find a connection. During our stay (we are two German diving friends) there were 3 Swiss couples and it was a warm welcome and togetherness from the first second. They met in the evening in front of the AE at the small bar and we were immediately "invited" to come. There were then 7 English-speaking guests and they sat together at the table at meals and talked, had a sundowner at the bar in the evening.
Interestingly, we then came to the point that one of the Swiss couples was there at the same time as Kay B...sometimes the question is how to get involved and above all perform!?

I normally book accommodation but this time my wife was in control..only being available to book directly its a bit pricey for Bali But, we loved our stay and was here for 15 nights! Located right on beach with just a few rooms so its so relaxing. If you are a muck diver its fabulous as many sites are on your doorstep and the resort has two boats to make diving easier where many have to shore dive the coast. The beach is pebble and for a while waves were interesting to get to the boats but an adventure and what lies beneath is well worth the effort. The array of creatures and nudies surpassed our expectations. All the dive crew and guides are great, as where the facilities. Plenty of sun beds and cool pool to swim in or relax near their bar at night. Food was excellent and three meals a day it was hard to say no to. A mix of guests can gather around a large table or if you wish dine alone. We had room 5 adjoining the main area ( which is open to relax ) and it was spotlessly clean with large bathroom and even a wet side door access which was useful. Christiane we found very helpful and lovely to chat with as one of the owners of the fabulous resort. Its immaculately kept and top quality in honesty for a dive resort and the reason that we now and many previous guests will return. A big shout to ALL the many staff in the resort who are so friendly and are always willing to help with a smile. We will be back.

The team, the food, the spa, the rooms, the diving,... Everything was just excellent!
To gaze upon the ocean from our bed, to shower under the trees and to find your room perfectly prepared after dinner made this place feel like paradise.
The kitchenstaff even loved to take care of our 10 month old baby, so the parents could go diving together.
We would come back anytime.

Stayed 11 days at Villa Markisa, many dives. We have stayed at Tulamben before, but first time at Villa Markisa. It is an outstanding resort in every way. We appreciated what excellent staff were there, dive guides and restaurant staff, management, in particular it was great to dine and dive with the owner, Christiane. Our chosen room was a beach front villa with an amazing private outside bathroom. Very spacious, good air con, comfortable bed and great dive camera bench. The restaurant was great. Excellent staff, excellent food and drink, excellent ambiance with communal dining. Food is a nice mix of Asian, European, Western and fusion. Lot of variety. The diving in Tulamben is always good, but at Villa Markisa is superior. The boatmen and guides are fantastic macro spotters and very helpful with gear as well as good company. Having boat dives at Tulamben is a first for us, it is so much easier and gives access to many great, different sites. It is a short walk/swim out to the boat mooring, but not at all difficult with lots of friendly help from the staff. This is a welcome addition to the small, select group of dive resorts we will visit again and again.

- beautiful tropical garden - first-class diving base with top-notch rental equipment - short boat rides to numerous nearby diving spots (mainly muck diving, but there are also a few places with corals and a large wreck (USS Liberty) - short walk across the black stone beach and a short swim to the two diving boats (the equipment is transported by the staff) - blackwater diving option - beautiful open spa area a few steps from the sea (the sound of the sea makes it even easier to relax during the extensive massages) - the staff are all very friendly and very attentive - family atmosphere - personal wishes are taken into account - the food is fantastic, plenty of choice (5 different dishes to choose from at lunch, buffet in the evening - Asian and European cuisine), everything freshly and deliciously prepared (also homemade desserts e.g. banana ice cream or mango panna cotta, always mixed tropical fruits) - shore excursions can be organized on request - the large pool is not only ideal for lazing around, but you can also also swim laps - Transfer to Denpasar Airport approx. 2.5 hours - I particularly liked the open-air bathroom that the bungalows have - large, comfortable beds with reading lamps and storage space - no street noise, no hustle and bustle
Summary: highly recommended for a relaxing holiday in Bali

Villa Markisa is an upscale boutique resort, and delivers friendly, helpful and high-quality accommodations, amenities, diving and services throughout your stay.
The staff proactively make sure they understand every guest’s particular interests, including type of diving and photography, and culinary and other requirements.
The bungalows are spacious, with an open-air courtyard, bath and shower, and private veranda.
The menus are varied, fresh and delicious, and the restaurant staff are happy to accommodate menu “tweaks.” Homemade breads, jams, sambals, breakfast juices, and ice creams are just a few of the items that make every meal an enjoyable and tasty experience.
The pool, Jacuzzi and spa add to the relaxing atmosphere, and you should not miss the opportunity for a healing massage or other personal pampering, accompanied by the soothing sounds of the ocean.
The Dive Guides are all local Indonesians who know the sites very well, and work very hard, from the moment the dive starts till it’s time to ascend to the surface, to show you the best from each dive site. They are all friendly and helpful, and happy to adjust what they show you to match each diver’s interests.
The owner, Christiane, is available every day, and often shares dives and meals with the guests. She is warm and friendly, and adds her personal hospitality to each guest’s stay. She is also a nudibranch expert, so is also a helpful resource in identifying the many varied nudis you’ll see while you are diving Tulamben.
Overall, my week at Villa Markisa was a wonderful experience, both topside and below the surface of the Bali Sea. I’m already planning my next trip to Villa Markisa in 2023. I highly recommend you do the same.
In addition to the photos below their honor a lot more photos and videos of Villa Markisa at the Villa Markisa website (villa-markisa.com).

Absolutely beautiful! Everything from the rooms, the service, the food, the diving was excellent. The staff are all really friendly and welcoming. The hosts take time to come and meet and chat with the guests. The grounds are immaculate. The owners are socially and environmentally conscious. Honestly, 5 stars just doesn't seem to be enough for Villa Markisa.

The grounds are gorgeous; the rooms rustic, but spacious. The people are very polite and willing to help. English is limited with many of the employees. The food is always plentiful, but average. The portions are huge! No one would ever go away hungry. They had the best cappuccino I've had even though it does come with a fee. It's well worth it. They do try to accommodate special requests. We wanted to eat breakfast before diving and the restaurant opens at 7:00. They were there for us at 6:30 as a great courtesy. They have a very nice facility for massage and the ladies do an excellent job. It is very fairly priced. There is limited space for working on the underwater cameras, but it exists. The dive guides are excellent. Our guide, Sumerta is exceptional. He found microscopic critters that were unbelievable. He was very patient and knew a great deal about photography. I had never used my snoot and he was eager to show me the different techniques to take photos. The diving is difficult without a dock, but none of the resorts have them. They have boats, but one must walk on rocks to get to them and must swim part of the way to enter the boats. The roll off isn't easy as there is a ledge that one must rise up to in order to enter the water. Thankfully, the young men were helpful in lifting the tank so I could get up to roll off. They were also there to help us walk to the shore given the difficulty with the rocks. They are very careful about checking the NITROX. We had to sign on each tank. One of the most amazing things about diving here is there a private guide for 2 people. Also, the dives can be for as long as one desires.

We had a fabulous experience. Picked up at the airport ( unfortunately a 2 1/2 hour drive) which we didn’t expect. They were very accommodating as we asked for a bottle of wine to be put in the room for us upon arrival. Next morning met the owner Christiane and manager Peter who gave us an overview of the property, dinner, etc. Introduced us to Wanta who was “assigned” to us as our dive master. 1 dive master to every 2 people! Outstanding! Wanta was excellent! Since our first time to Bali he made sure we saw everything we could! Sea life, corals, fish, just beautiful! Our suite was large with a great deck overlooking the pool, gardens and the ocean. Only disappointment was the bathroom which was open air, so no air conditioning. Very strange and bug-gy. Needless to say warm! Very small resort with just 9 villas, so only one dining area. Food for breakfast and lunch was exceptional! Dinner was always a buffet and just wasn’t the quality of breakfast and lunch. Every afternoon at 4p they had happy hour at their little bar overlooking the ocean. Tera and Desak were two servers/ bartenders that were great!
Very speedy internet!
Wanta after our last dive offered to rinse and clean all of our dive gear. First time ever that I didn’t feel the need to come home and clean it again! Just awesome! On our departure several staff members came to say goodbye including Christiane! And then driven to the airport. A great experience!

We can only say amazing things about Villa Markisa. It felt like home away from home and even more ; beautiful gardens, views of the ocean, the ability to watch the sunrise over the sea and relax with a drink at the end of the day with a gentle sea breeze.
The room was incredibly comfortable and well thought out - your own steel water bottle to reuse and refill and the ability to refill your bottle in your room, masks and santiser provided, dressing gowns and a turndown service by staff at end of day.
Villa Markisa clearly defined and briefed us on the covid protocol at the resort and required all guests and staff to abide by this. This was reassuring and appreciated by us.
All staff were attentive, helpful and friendly from the driver who picked us up from Sanur, our welcome upon arrival, dining and housekeeping, gardeners, and diving staff. The food was wonderful, plentiful, delicious and varied and we loved the special touch of afternoon tea. Great food and skilled chef.
The diving staff were wonderful and a special thanks to our two dive guides. They have amazing eyes finding beautiful small creatures and things we have not seen before.
A special thanks to Nina for being so prompt at replying to my first email and my subsequent emails as we navigated the protocol for coming to Bali in this covid world.
It was lovely to spend time with Christiana, Pedro. Their knowledge and passion for their environment both under the water and above the water is infectious and inspiring.
Villa Markisa is a wonderful place and we loved staying there.
We were fortunate to visit them in early August after Bali was opened to domestic tourists.

Hi Rod,
thank you for your questions. Villa Markisa is directly on the beach, to jump in the water you just have to go few steps. The view is amazing and you always can hear the sound of the waves. We have two boats driving out to the Liberty shipwreck and it is just a 5 to 7 minutes ride.
If you have more questions please send us an e-mail.
Sunny Bali regards,
Villa Markisa
Thank you for considering Villa Markisa for your Holiday!
As you already have seen, the best Ocean View you will definitely get from the Masterbedrooms Balcony that features a nice daybed, a small table and 2 chairs to enjoy one of the stunning sunrises with your coffee. Since it is located on the first floor, our guests consider this to be a very private room.
The other option is Bungalow No 3 that also has a small Balcony that gives a nice view to the Ocean and has one of the open “garden-bathrooms, but it is directly besides the kitchen so if you want to have it very quiet, the Masterbedroom will be your better choice.
Please let us know soonest if that interests you as there are quite a few requests for this specific room.
Thanks and best regards
Pedro
