My girlfriend and I enjoyed our 3 night stay at the Matahari resort. It is an all around solid resort and dive center. We stayed at the Matahari 2 accommodations just a 2min walk from the dive center. The room was big, clean and very comfortable. The resort has a nice (and cheap) beach front restaurant. Staff was friendly and very helpful. I have nothing negative to say about our time here.

Always interesting to come back here for diving, i saw Mola Mola last year Sep when i diving in Seraya Secret , absolutely amazing to see when the water temperature is just 27 degree... Always expect the unexpected ...

Had 3 days of diving here, divemaster were really fun bunch of guys. Dive sites were overcrowded. But still had a very good time. The Liberty wreck was the highlight as a night dive. Bring your own torch as dive centers torches were not so good.

Stayed here on the 8th of August to the 11th. Cant say I had a great experience here, I was charged 5 million IDR for a package where I only had 4 dives and I was made to take most in one day, it was specified on the website as being alot cheaper, but when I got there they charged me alot more than I anticipated. The room was dirty, there was no toilet paper, and the electric kept cutting out so was without electric for alot of the time. The staff at reception couldn't understand English. When I couldn't find my padi ow card the SSI women (german) said I couldn't do my dives even after i paid, she was very unhelpful to explain what I could do which made me feel like leaving, I had to find a Padi diving school to get my proof I was certified. I am new to night diving so had to do…

Everything has two sides and we would like to tell you our experiences with this and everybody can build the own meaning: The guest came without dive brevet, logbook or anything to proof that she is a diver. We have responsibility and requested that she logged in to PADI because we are a SSI Dive Center (we mention that in our Package). But she was not able to open her PADI page. Ok, we tried to help and offered to do "scuba skill update" to see that she can handle the skills and is confident. But she didnt want to do that! She want to do the SSI night dive course but she was not serious interested to do it and she didnt finish it (of course we have to charge when she start!). We checked several times to find her in the Resort to do the theoretical part of the course but she wasnt around. And she also didnt join all the dives we offered from her package which she booked. Means what can we do??? It is wrong to say we are not interested in new or beginner divers. We are a certified SSI Dive Center and we have two instructors available for the dive courses. Plus on request we have PADI Instructors available. For the experienced divers we have divemasters/dive guides with eagle eyes available which love to take care certified divers and photographers. For the problems with the electric we aplogize. This is not our fault and we have a big generator available. Not all places in Tulamben offer electric when the government cut it. For the room: Our housekeeping Team check daily the rooms and everything and in case there would be something missing we recommand to come to the Reception where you can communicate very well in english. And last not least: guests make mails with myself (Suci) and in case I am not arround I am most of the time available by emails or whatsapp and if there is something to clear, it will be not so big problem to contact myself and I try to fix everything. My Team and myself try hard that you will have great memories about your holidays with us. But if you will not give us any chance it will be really hard.... and please dont forget: We are a small family company; we are balinese with a balinese TEAM and we are not a five star Hotel. And if you come with happiness we are sure that we can have a great time together. Thanks to all our guests which love to stay and dive with us. From beginners to experienced divers. Visited twice this year. January as a solo diver and May with a friend. Reservation I booked directly with Suci (Resort owner) via email and text, she was always quick to respond and assisted with any queries I had. You will have to pay a deposit via PayPal and the rest can be paid later at the resort. Transfers can be arranged to/fro Denpasar easily. Accommodation Stayed in both the Superior and Deluxe rooms. Some Superior rooms provide a fantastic view of the Gunung Agung so if you’re into that, try requesting for a road-facing room. The rooms serves its purpose and were cleaned daily. This resort was quite lovely and charming- I felt like a was in a Balinese garden. It was quiet and breezy with stunning views of the ocean and views of the volcano. The staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful, especially reception. As a beginner diver, this was a great place to go, with a shore entry/exit, and lots to see at shallow depths. I hired a dive guide, Delon, who was fabulous- he was very patient and good-natured. I did the USAT Liberty wreck (a must) and Suci's Garden. Food and drinks were good and I just couldn't get over the view! My only minor suggestion/complaint is around showers- my hot water didn't last long at all, and after diving, it would be nice to enjoy a hot shower for a little longer.

They have a great offer for the package of the AOW Course. I had a great time. I got invited to join their annual festivities for their anniversary -- I was offered free beer and food while the dive guides (who were very good singers) sang a song I requested. ;) I'm going back to stay for another vacation.

Best resort ever. Best food in Tulamben and best dive guides. Very nice eminent and sunrise view. I will definitely go and recommend my friends to go. The SPA is nice and relaxing. They are very flexible and they provide transportation. The dive guides are the best. They have good knowledge of the creatures.

Excellent hotel and restaurant. Good food, friendly staff, nice and clean. The location was great, right by the sea. Really relaxing to spend som time at the poolside or in the garden after dive. The dive centre was good and most of the dive masters did a great job. One of the guides unfortunately didn’t care so much about the safety. He didn’t make the safety stops and he was really bad in English, it was impossible to communicate to him about a problem with my equipment due to the language barrier. He also went on picking up stones and corals and he poked under a rock for an octopus to come out.

Booked this through hotels.com for July 29, 2019 which I immediately noticed. I rebooked for the correct date, July 1, 2019 and then called hotels.com to cancel the other incorrect date which they said the hotel would have approve. I went to the hotel and stayed on the correct dates and let them know that I had also booked a month later incorrectly and that they should cancel that reservation since i won't be there. They assured me they would however I just called hotels.com today and they state they have emailed and called Matahari several times and they do not want to cancel or refund the incorrect reservation after I stayed with them on the correct date and explained to them a month in advance. Dear Mr.Lee, we are absolutly upset about your review in Tripadvisor about the cancellation with hotels.com!!! We never received a call from Hotels.com about your bookings for the 2 standard rooms and we cannot cancel the reservations from our side. You have to modify the booking with them and we are agree to cancel without fee. We dont need to take money for rooms which are not sold!!!! And of course we are agree to cancel when you made a mistake with the dates and booked other dates via a new booking with hotels.com. For the hot water we apologize that we are not able to get a technician to repair the hot water in the evening. But this can happen to you even in a 5* hotel. And that my Team charged you for the Lifejackets was also correct. I (the owner) was not available and if the Dive Center make report to the Reception then they have to charge. If you would ask for myself (owner) or the manager then we could fix the problem. Please contact them as soon as possible because we not yet received the payment for July!!! I hope for your understanding that I am unhappy with this issue because it is not in our hand and only you can fix it. But we will contact Expeida/Hotels.com from our side and try to do something. But notice: you have to cancel both bookings for the standard rooms!
