Detailed Reviews
We stated at Matahari for 8 nights and dived for 6 days . Everything was great from booking to arriving to diving. Staff are helpful and genuinely want your stay and dive to be memorable. Diving was fabulous, when there was current we often did a drift and the reefs were healthy. Loved the macro diving where we found many weird and wonderful critters. Our dive Komang was great and could spot the smallest nudibranchs that were so difficult for us to see. Our driver Gede (for trip to Padang bai and up north for a land tour) was personable and a great diver.

This was my first stay in 4 years and I stayed for 7 nights.
The hotel, restaurant, spa and diving are all inexpensive and the staff are all friendly and helpful.
The building is a little old and not well maintained in some areas, but it is clean and there are no inconveniences.
There is a dive shop and restaurant in the part of the hotel closest to the sea, making it a very convenient hotel, especially for divers.

Visited this resort for the 8th time and what a pleasure.
The rooms have been refurbished and the whole resort is still being improved.
Great beds, room just painted and equipped with new paneling.
Everything nice and clean and also the terrace by the pool is now extended.
The food is of top quality and nothing is too much, also special wishes are fulfilled.
Staff are very friendly and everything goes perfectly.
It's coming home to the friendliest resort in Tulmben!

Matahari was incredible. I am normally into the big pelagic stuff but I learned start to like all the tiny critters that we spotted.
great house reef, very good food and good accommodation. Very affordable place to stay and dive at. I will definitely come back one day.
Thank you guys!

Nice clean rooms. Little bit out of the sun and the beautiful views over the ocean.
So the terrace could be better.
You need to sit in the public spaces to enjoy them.
The best food in Tulamben. Try the restaurant.

A superb location with great accommodation with amazing food & fabulous friendly efficient staff. I am a novice with diving but it was brilliant to share stories, photos & video with the many wonderful guests who travel from all over the world to enjoy the exquisite sunken wreck & stunning coral reefs. Dive instructors are first class. I will certainly return to do the full scuba course.

Ja was ist denn hier los?

We have different category for rooms and we hope guests compare, what they pay and get for. We have also nice bungalows but more expensive. We serve nice breakfast and we are located at the beach. But anyway thanks a lot for the report. We appreciate to get feedback. Thanks and "Merry Christmas". Suci

When I say "Budget resort". Don't get me wrong,it got everything you need and expected.
sea side restaurant, a pool you can enjoy a drink, a dive centre right next to the sea, some clean and tidy room. Its pool may not be the biggest around the area, but I have to said it offer excellent value for money and a very reasonable quality of service.
Room, We stay in a deluxe bungalow, no complaint for the room except a slightly smell in the bathroom but after the ventilation fan operating 24 hours a day... it improved. Plenty space for us to spread out all our gear while packing. There is no TV in the room, but thats is perfectly ok for us. power failure once or twice during our whole week stay, nothing to worry about, the only thing is when the power resume, the air conditioner won't switch on automatically, so you will get too hot and need to wake up to switch it on manually.
Food, the restaurant is located nicely by the sea. Offering typical local dishes. I found no problem with the quality of the offered but after week of local food, I miss the Chinese food back home. Dive package does not include full board meal, but again price is very very reasonable and affortable.
Diving, resort offering free Nitrox to qualify divers, a oxygen sensor is also available for diver verification as well. tank used can accept DIN or Yoke first stage! Preparation area at the dive centre is a bit small when too many divers are preparing at the same time. We dived with the same DM throughtout our stay. so we arrange all our dives with him directly, so we don't have to use the diver board on the wall to find out where and when is our next dive. I don't really pay much attention on these board, I have an impression that our schedule was not updated on the board everyday. It did not affect our dives at all but I do think it is a good practice to update the board so people know who and how many divers are in the water and whereabout.
All dives we did with the resort were shore dive, there was not sandy beach but shore is filled with pebbles, divers will need to walk on pebbles for every entry and exit with full gears. It may be a problem for new divers and divers with heavily camera system, much worst when surface swell is presence. i.e A hard sole boot is strongly recommended.
U will need to walk about 10 minutes with wet suits and weight belts, and camera system to the entry point for the Liberty wreck. i.e.- It is worth it after all. Your tanks and bc will be handled by local porter. There was one occasion, we need to wait about 15 minutes on the beach for our tank and bc to arrive, not a good experience in a hot day. No storage is available on the beach, a guy wearing glasses like me will have to leave my glass in the dive resort and do the short walk with my mask fitted prescribed lens, again not very convenient, especially for a night dive.
Spa and Massage, our package include two session of massage, I do enjoy the massage after couple day of diving. The rooms are quite and nice, the girls for the massage are quite good at it. No complaint for it.
Response from the resort - I am so impress by the prompt reply for every enquiry email I have send. I got quick and direct reply from the owner; Suci within a day. That kind of service is very impressive. Thx Suci keep it up!
Travel from Denpasar - It need to take around 3 hours of travel from Denpasar airport due to the local traffic, if you travel by night like we do, it may be a bit quicker. but there is not too much can be done of this regard.
After all, it was a very pleasant holiday for our group and I would certainly like to come back for more photograph..:-)
Traveling time - our stay was around end of Mar to early April. it was not the peak diving season for Tulamben, I expect more divers in the peak season might worst thing up a bit.
However, I still think the dives quality are good and good value for money.
Will i come back for more diving--YES
Will I recommend Matahari Resort to friend - YES
Finally -- Thank Suci to run such a good place for divers and keep up the good work.
