Declan and his team were very accommodating from when we first arrived until we checked out. The suite we stayed was so large and beautifully designed and had everything that you could ever think you need. They thought of everything. The guest house is so beautiful and there are so many peaceful nooks that you could spend all day there...

This wonderful guest house is perfect for whatever you are looking for. A base to explore the wine region or a hideaway to escape hustle and bustle. You can easily walk to anywhere in Franschhoek. It is smallish and the staff is very attentive, friendly and helpful. Our room could not have been more delightful. Lots of light and space,...

We have previously celebrated New Year in Scotland, but this New Year we wanted to try seeing in the new year in the sun. When considering the options we did not hesitate in choosing South Africa, then deciding on Franschhoek, which led us to the automatic choice of the Akademie Boutique Hotel, where we have stayed twice before. Our past...

We were incredibly fortunate to stay at this wonderful guest house during our stay in the Stellenbosch wine region. Declan, the hotel manager (possibly owner), made us feel tremendously welcome upon arrival and his team couldn't have been more helpful throughout. The room was very spacious, had everything a guest might need including a complimentary mobile phone and was delightfully...

The headline applies to both the Akademie and, to be fair, Franschhoek itself which is a strange Colonial reproduction of French wine country. Some of the best restaurants in the Continent and some of the best wines too lurk an easy walk/tramride from your door. The guest house itself is beautifully furnished in early 20th century style (if your tastes...

We stayed for two nights and couldn't have been better looked after. Declan and his team were brilliant and made us feel at home. The rooms, furnishings, food, pool, drinks - in fact everything - was out of this world. If you are looking for a special place in the winelands - this is it. An oasis of tranquility and...

To call this place a hotel is to do it a disservice. From the moment you arrive they take care of you in every way. From drinks to restaurant and wine farm bookings down to laundry, it's all taken care of. Rooms, amenities, breakfast all outstanding. Best place we stayed in in our two weeks in South Africa and would...

There is a wealth of choice in Franschhoek with a very high bar set by wineries that provide luxury accommodation and a slew of excellent boutique hotels. We feel confident that we made the right choice in choosing this wonderful oasis 2 blocks from the main street and justly-renowned restaurants. My wife and I were on our first visit to South Africa so consulted Tripadvisor which came up trumps. This is a fantastic hotel. If you like somewhere quiet, with a small number of guests, elegant colonial style rooms, fantastic service and a brilliant breakfast, right in the centre of Franschhoek then choose Akademie Street Hotel.
