We have stayed at Otters Bend before, and we're thrilled to be there again. The welcome from Mark and Mary is second to none. They make visitors very welcome and nothing is too much trouble. As a backpacker you can't expect five star accommodation. The beds are clean, the facilities are good, and the location is fantastic. We will definitely...

The Otter's Bend Lodge is truly a gem of a backpacker's nestled in the heart of the Franschhoek wine valley. The rooms walk out onto a beautiful leafy porch and just around the corner is a lovely communal area with everything you can think of: splash pool/paella pans/ fireplace/enormous bar counter...

It could be a fabulous backpackers lodge, it is in a good location and has charm and character but overall it felt neglected and run down. The mattress on our bed was in desperate need of replacing, the bathroom had a hole in the floor and the shower bowl was broken. In the communal space there is a great fire...

no one present at entrance to hand keys or even to welcome us and other overseas guests were waiting too. This place has a lot of potential as it is very central and surrounded by beautiful estates. but unfortunately it is so neglected and so dirty and garden overgrown in front of living area that it is a shame. The...

We loved our time here :) My boyfriend and I spent the weekend camping next to the river. It is a beautiful spot with all the amenities one would need and more; toilets, showers, fully equipped kitchen, fireplace, swimming pool and an abundance of braai areas. It is about a 2 minute walk to Mont Rochelle wine farm and ten...

We stayed here for a night whilst wine tasting in Franschhoek. We stayed in a dorm but were the only two there. The accommodation was clean and really affordable. You could pay an extra R150 (between 2) and stay in cute little lodges with a terrace. The staff were kind and helpful and came to pick us up at 10pm...
