I stayed at the African Ubuntu Backpackers in Jeffrey's Bay while traveling South Africa. Since I was traveling by myself always hoped for places I could easily meet people at. The Ubuntu is a really nice and cute place with great people. I stayed in a big dorm which was nice. The beds were comfy and the hostel itself is...

Seriously, this place was awful. After a 15 hour drive down the East coast from Pinetown, all we wanted was a nice quiet evening to rest. We specifically looked for a place that had good recommendations, but we couldn’t have been more disappointed. No idea where the majority of reviewers got their rose-tinted spectacles, but we weren't given any. To...

We were back at Ubuntu during December holidays. What a pleasure yet again! Friendly staff, clean rooms and so hospitable. Lovely vibe and Xmas dinner was amazing even though I almost burst 😀. We had a double room with shared bathroom which was always clean and pleasant to use. They organised surf lessons and sandboarding for us. We had a...

We enjoyed Ubuntu.. it was laid back and clean. The shared bathrooms were always available too. Lots of thought in decoration style with recycling projects going and staff that was very helpful and attentive.

We chose Ubuntu carefully based on reviews and photos, but were very disappointed. Having backpacked all around the world, I know a good hostel when I see one... and this isn't one. The place has a friendly vibe and some nice features, but everything feels grubby and tired. We'd booked a private twin room. It was so dingy and dirty...

The staff was scattered and it was frequently unclear who was working at the hostel versus who was a guest just hanging out. The dorm beds were average and if you're tall, not convenient. I did not feel confident in the lockers provided, considering a lock didn't keep them closed properly.

Really enjoyed my stay here and can't add much more to the previous reviews. I only want to mention that it's a little further away from Main beach so if you're a beginner (relating to surfing ) you may find a more convenient place closer to that beach. If you have a car it wouldn't matter though.

7 days of pure relaxation in a down to Earth artistic sanctuary, friendly staff and SA's No1 wave on view from the balcony, makes it hard to go wrong. Where Ubuntu really makes it's Authentic mark is it's attention to detail, immaculately clean throughout, polite and chilled staff that are always on hand and happy to go the extra mile...

African Ubuntu, you guys rock! Great Beach views, amazing staff, great community, Conscious living atmosphere, beautiful garden, walking distance to the beach, shops and restaurants. Great for surfing if that's your thing.

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 1 night and were really impressed. The staff were super friendly, helpful and welcoming considering we did not even make a booking. The backpackers itself is awesome! It is colourful and clean. The bathrooms are very well maintained and they have 2 balconys and a stunning garden area for chilling. They also had...
