The Hotel is not for everyone-you got to be a minialist and like lots of wood-floors, walls celing fans, breeze coming in through the windows, rockers on the veranda, etc. I really love the breezes slowly blowing the floor lengh curtins across the hallway. Just nice and calming. Rooms are not much more than a clean bed, clean towels and...

We were at the Chalfonte for a family wedding. The ceremony was held under the weeping willow tree in the garden of the hotel. At first, we were a little disconcerted by "no TV, no alarm clock in the room, etc", but gradually we came to appreciate the lovely ocean breezes through our open bedroom window, the grand public rooms...

This Hotel is a must see! Very, very quaint and in its original form. It has that incredible smell that you smelled as a child when you stayed , as we say, "down the shore" back in the 60's. The Fried Chicken is really good and made from a recipe of two Black women from down South. They even sell...

no TV/telephone, no AC, some bathrooms shared down the hallway, creaky floors. OK, its not the ritzcarlton, but the throwback to the 1920's high life on the beach is like being caught up inside of a Norman Rockwell Americana painting. We loved it. Sitting on the front porch in a rocking chair whittling away the afternoon and early evening is...

I love staying here, as it is 1876 old! I love the fact that it has NO TV! Who needs that on vacation? They also have free beach chairs and umbrellas at the Howard St Beach from Stegers. I always call and ask for the traditional style room (you use a shared bathroom in hallway) and the rates are unbelievably...

This hotel is known for being old-fashioned in a good way. It has an old world charm about it. There are people who come back year after year. I stayed here several years ago and had a lovely time. Well, times have clearly changed, or we just had really bad luck. I stayed here with a friend of couple of...

Been a few years since I've eaten at the chalfont they now have Eastern European servers whereas a few yrs ago they were all Irish. The service was just as good as I remember. Fried chicken house specialty for over 100 years and special catfish both very good. They were pre fix 3 courses at 36.00 each with good shrimp...

As for The Chalfonte...it's convenient. It's a couple short blocks to the beach and a few towards the strip of shops/restaurants in either direction. The room was not fully cleaned upon arrival - dirty towels in the bathroom, used soap in the shower. The walls are thin and you can hear everything around you. The hardwood reverberates the noise and...

I've been going to the Chalfonte for over 25 years. So charming, so easy and so comfortable, I was concerned after the new owners took over that things would change. It seems a seamless transition has occurred. Friendly staff, friendly atmosphere and fabulous food continue as always as well as the King Edward Bar which makes the Chalfonte seem a...
