What a unique and fun spot. Fabulous location, friendly staff, nice amenities and bed. Rooms are small but very cozy. We stayed for one rainy night and had a wonderful time. Can't wait to go back. Great value too.

Great boutique hotel near all the action of downtown Portsmouth. Hospitality was excellent. Craig was there the 2 days of our stay and he provided restaurant tips (all of which were excellent) and chatted about the hotel and Portsmouth. Very friendly and relaxed environment. The hotel provides a free beer on check-in and has snacks and coffee available in the...

First of all, this is not your typical hotel. It's more like an apartment building in an old brewery. You climb a set of stairs, use a key to access the front door, take an elevator (or climb more stairs) and then you're on the main floor. A nicely decorated sitting room greets you as you exit the elevator. In...

We stayed in Portsmouth for 2 nights as a mid week getaway. We wanted to sample some local breweries (which were great by the way!!). What better place to stay than in a renovated brewery?! The Ale House Inn was perfect in every way. The accommodations were clean and modern, the staff was super friendly and helpful, and the location...

modern ambient, very clean and well maintained, at walking distance to the city center, hence breakfast and dining are really behind the corner, overall a positive impression and no complaints at all!

Nice little place, only about 10 rooms, right in the heart of Portsmouth in walking distance to nearly everything the town has to offer. The inn itself is in a funky old building, the young man at the desk was friendly and helpful, and the room was perfectly adequate for the weekend stay. Definitely would recommend

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a few days, and the only problem we had was having to leave. This hotel was simply perfect! The staff was incredibly helpful and accommodating. The room was clean and had the most comfortable sheets in the world. Overall, it has a charming older feel with all modern appliances and decor. I would...

What a great, charming little place. Interesting setup, as it is on the second story of a multi-use building: repertory theatre on 1st; inn on 2nd; private residences on 3rd. It's a strange entrance, but follow the signage and you find yourself there. The location is perfect, a quick walk to shops and great dining. The rooms and lobby have...

I took my wife to Portsmouth, New Hampshire for her birthday. She loves places with character. I found The Ale House Inn online. It qualified as a place with character...lots of it! The town or city of Portsmouth is on/near the Atlantic Ocean...a very quaint town with winding streets, plenty of shops to explore and a delightful choice of restaurants....

My husband and I just returned from a weekend in Portsmouth and our stay at the Ale House Inn was perfect. It's a small place in a historic building walking distance from downtown and Strawberry Banke. Craig, the officer manager, was so helpful and gave us some great recommendations for restaurants. The room was extremely clean, it felt like we...
