Trail Conditions: What if the ruts were filled in, and the rocks and roots covered? That's mid-winter hiking. You don't need snow shoes. Light crampons will do it. And more: the trees make a wind lee and the streams are frozen solid for crossing. Two comments: 1. It would be nice to have an electric vehicle charging station. 2. Bretton...

Highland Center is run by the Appalachian Mountain Club and is geared for those who love the outdoors and exploring the world in natural settings. Even though I live in Florida I joined the AMC and visited this lodge for 4 days in February. I loved it! The rooms were warm and comfortable, with L.L. Bean flannel bed linens. The...

AMC does it again, Pinkham is excellent and Highland is very good. The rooms are clean, well made providing a good rest; there is no noise that can be heard and quiet hours are respected. Food is offered if desired. Breakfast is easy and healthy options. Food allergies accommodated. Front desk very helpful.

If your schedule is flexible ask about the discount periods. We just got the 30% off rate. Depending on how long you stay it might be worth your while to join the AMC, even if you're a die hard flatlander and don't plan another mountain experience. One good strategy is to hike from every trail head parking lot. Just go...

was expecting alot less than what is there-beautiful new facility, lots of comfortable common space, adequate room - it was the meals that blew me away. excellent dinner and breakfast. family style food at a shared table is not my preference, and because I was alone it was worse for an introvert like me, but the food was great. excellent...

The Highland Center is a great place to stay for families, friends, seniors. The accommodations are comfortable and clean, and furnished with sheets, quilts, and furniture from L.L. Bean. Private baths or bunk rooms with shared bath are available. Meals are served family style, increasing the fun. There are activities for children, walks and talks with rangers during the season....

I love the White Mountains, and the Highland Center is an extremely convenient place to launch from for a hiking trip, but don't expect to get much sleep there. While the new expanded center is in a beautiful location, with nice clean rooms, there are no soft closures on any of the doors in the sleeping areas, and the metal...

This was our 2nd stay at the Highland Center. It is perfectly located near the Appalachian Trail and Presidential Range of the White Mountains. As AMC members, we receive a discount, but the prices are very reasonable even without membership. There are several levels of privacy available. We chose a private bunk room with a shared bathroom. The room and...

This was a great lodge to base from for the Crawford Notch area. The rooms were sparse, but clean and efficient. There are no TVs or air conditioners. We were there in August, and the temperature was comfortable. The windows open fully and there are box fans if you need them (we did not). The lodge hosts a beer/wine/snack reception...

I honestly can't say enough about this place. It is the perfect place for a nature vacation with families of all ages in a beautiful part of the Northeast.
