Located in historic Downtown Las Vegas. The hospitality of the Hawaiian Islands will flower during your visit to the California Hotel Casino. We like to say "Aloha" is spoken fluently here, and our guests enjoy many Hawaiian touches, ranging from dining delicacies such as oxtail soup to the colorful decor reminiscent of the islands' lush, tropical beauty.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Definitely not biker friendly. Rode up on the bikes , 8 bikes total(yes we all had reservations). Pulled up to valet to unlaod the bikes. Told we could not park there. Another guy came up and said we could unpack the bikes but then we had to park the bikes down the street and around the corner at the MainStreet Station. Next morning when we were leaving, we pulled the bikes into valet again to load them up. The guy told us we needed to move the bikes and we couldn’t park there. Tried explaining we were only loading the bikes and we would leave. He kept saying we had to move them. Our stuff was literally inside the door, took us all of 10 minutes to pack the bikes and leave. Bit of an inconvenience to park down the street and around the corner. We weren’t going to drag our luggage that far to load our bikes. Definitely won’t be staying there again. The rooms- outdated. Bathroom so small. Literally have to go in and try to shut the door as your have one leg between the shower and the toilet.

Fremont Street was great and this place is only 100 yards away. The rooms were big and clean but had a smell of simple. As you entered the hotel you entered the casino which had a constant haze of smoke, people playing the machines 24 hours a day. If these things don’t bother you then book with confidence. Nice staff and a good price. Buffet brunch at the adjoining Main Street Station hotel at around $26 per head, as much as you can eat breakfast and lunch items.

The California hotel definitely needs an upgrade. The rooms need sound proofing both between rooms and window sound proofing due to the traffic and train noises. The carpet in the the room needs to be cleaned and the bedding is the minimum.. no comforters,,,but a lightweight blanket like sheet. As well as the sheets do not fit the bed well. The heat/air units are loud and in need of repair. We had a problem with the noise from the next room which kept us awake all night, as well as the train. The hotel is nicely located in downtown Las Vegas, but it would be nice if they renovated this hotel like they did for the Fremont. Please Boyd casino renovate this hotel!!!!

Redwood Steakhouse in the California Hostess -0 Stars she puts the dirty menu on the plates. Service -0 Stars came on a Sunday evening and very slow. Food -0 Stars Bread & Butter boring and plain. -0 Stars Porterhouse steak unseasoned and bland. I added salt and pepper still boring. Tried 2 of their sauces better but the meat still unseasoned. They don’t even season the veggies that come with. -0 Stars for the thin skinny asparagus. 1 Star for trying to be a steakhouse

Visit HI and Vegas on the same trip. Clean room, friendly staff -- But Aloha Specialties Cafe could use a revamp. Really bad food and wayyyy overpriced. Surprisingly bad. How can. you mess up Teri beef? They found a way!

Would not recommend. Went to sports bar and couldn’t sit due to others being reserved then was told I couldn’t smoke a cigar in the sports area. It’s ridiculous I couldn’t spend money at the bar then when I sat to watch the game I couldn’t smoke my cigar. Went to Circa which was a much better experience. Will not go back!

The stars is for what it does best.. be a destination casino to residents of Hawaii. There are many video poker machines with 5c demonization's that have good pay tables. The food is always very good serving many native Hawaii dishes, I have tried many throughout the years. I live here so go often. Sightseeing? They have a cross over to Main Street Station where you can see a big chunk of the Berlin Wall in the mens' bathroom, the one nearer the buffet area.

It's not really kama'aina or local Hawaiian anymore - I will keep my memories of traveling there from Honolulu with my family during the 1970's and 1980's. Unlike the 1970's - the California Hotel's hotel guests are overwhelmingly Kupuna ( senior citizens) from Hawaii on package tours...........bag pull for Hawaiian Airlines is at 5.30 in the morning - so be prepared to have your sleep interrupted. In general, the California Hotel is in shabby condition. 1) the pool (or even a sundeck) not being open on the 13th Floor despite verbal reassurances from the front desk staff and on their website in May 2023 that it was.- The front desk staff lied straight faced to me. It is not. Front desk staff seem uninformed as to why the pool would be open in May and suddenly shut down again. They were snarky in suggesting that I could use the pool at the Orleans Hotel ( which is about 30 miles away). Rather than hoping, wishing or begging for the pool to be opened ( or re- opened.....?).........it's just easier to stay at a different hotel. It's not really Pono ( correct behavior) to lie to your customers. Hotel refused to refund resort fee of $29.00 per night - even though with the pool closed - there was no resort. Front desk staff was unwilling and unable to explain what services the resort fee covered * Overall- the Front Desk staff has completely lost its Aloha Spirit. Although many of the California Hotels staff are from Hawai'i - they were at various times - rude, hostile, uninformed, bored, untruthful or had a " I couldn't care less" attitude. * 2) too much salt in their food. the human body is designed to only be able to process 1500 mg of salt per day ( maybe less than that figure if you're a small person - or have suffered heart failure). This means 500 mg at breakfast, 500 mg at lunch and 500 mg at dinner. Anything more drasticly increases the possibility of having a heart attack or a stroke. I just cannot believe how salty the food is at the California and that customers are not allowed to salt their food to taste. THERE ARE MUCH BETTER HAWAIIAN RESTAURANTS IN LAS VEGAS - that don't have to cover their low- quality food with tons of salt - the food at the hotel's California Market place - is barely edible. * 3) Difficutlty with getting between Downtown and the Strip. Every visitor to Las Vegas has to consider whether they shoild focus being located Downtown or focus being located on the Strip- because it's not possible to do both. The RTC bus service brought me to tears - 90 minutes to get to the Strip and 3 HOURS to come back downtown. The RTC bus is supposed to run every 15 minutes and take 30 minutes travel time. I left downtown at 6.10 after waiting 40 minutes for the bus, it took 90 minutes - arriving at the concert ( Flamingo and Las Vegas Blvd) at 7.40 pm. No dinner, I just had enough time to buy and chug down a bottle of water. coming home it was worse- I got to the bus stop at 10 pm- the bus didn't show up until 11.20 pm! completely crowded but I forced my way on - about 20 people used the back exit door to get on, and about 100 people were left behind. The bus felt unsafe and passengers were frustrated. DO NOT THINK FOR A MINUTE THAT IT'S POSSIBLE TO GET BETWEEN DOWNTOWN AND THE STRIP - It's not. -------- Do yourself a favor and take a little time to research other hotels- you can find lower priced and higher quality hotels - with Western style hospitality - that is closer to authentic Aloha Spirit - than the hostil, bored, uninformed, and lying front desk staff you get at the California Hotel it's really kama'aina anymore

@thecalcasino Currently having the worst customer service experience I’ve ever had with a hotel in Las Vegas with your team. Booked a room for my dear friend and his family from your website, your front desk will not check them in, the service on YOUR website has no ability to change reservation name and has kept me on hold for 60 minutes and this family waiting in the lobby for over an hour so far.
