There is no better place to stay in the Sparta Region overlooking the Peloponnesian plain than here -the proprietor - whose roots and lineage comes from my father's Village,Goranoi, nearby ,below, on the foot of the first leg of Mt. Taygetos, Greece's fourth tallest,a 14-teener like Colorado's Rockies Mountain Range, the proprietor, spent time in Canada growing up, and has...

This is a Greek hotel for Greeks mainly, but the owner George speaks English. You need a hire car to reach it: it's as far up Mount Golas as you can go without crampons. It takes about 30mins to drive up there, and the view is SO WORTH IT when you arrive. You have perfect views of the mountains especially...

What can you say that hasn't been said already? The Greek tourist office could encourage walkers by marking some walks in the mountains, at present,in the absence of detailed maps, you follow tracks hoping they lead where you want to go, rather than to a walnut or olive grove. The path from Golas Monastery down through wonderful cyclamen filled mature woodland...

Very friendly welcome by the owner, amazing view. Clean room and nice local food and meal. Low season so very quiet. Excellent to enjoy a peaceful break. Nice walk to the little chapel directly from the hotel which gives a wonderful 360 panorama of the valley and the mountains.

The hotel is on top of a mountain and has incredible views over the plains and mountains. The scenery has to be seen to be believed. The road to it from Gourani and Gola is littered with hairpin bends, so you have to take extra care and not drive like the locals. However, it is well worth the journey. The...

I booked this hotel based on the strength of 'James J's' review - and I'm so pleased I did! I just wish that we'd booked it for longer than one night. What this is: a hotel at the top of a mountain, basically. What this isn't: a slick hotel in a town with bars and restaurants on your doorstep. Its...

Thank you to the Danish couple we met at the Taigetos refuge hut last year who told us about the Faris hotel. We stayed there for 4 days in April 2015 and enjoyed the experience so much we wish our stay could have been longer. Owner George makes every effort to make your stay memoriable. He takes pride in serving...

Lovely location in the mountains above Sparta. It took some effort to find our way, but the gps recognized Gola and the brown "Faris" signs posted by the hotel also helped. The last stretch is an unpaved drive that seems about to take you right over the edge of the mountain, but instead you arrive into a paved court and...
