We have been here a few times already and love it here! We were here in October and booked this trip even before checking out, and we booked our next trip yesterday while we are still here.
The location is great being somewhat secluded yet accessible, and not far from Singapore. It’s well maintained and the rooms we have stayed in have been great including our current room, which has a great ocean view. The beach is also great although the water is restricted now due to the high surf from the monsoon season. The water sports are kind of hit and miss with not much available this time due to the waves
Grant, the GM, has an incredible staff of extremely helpful and very friendly people. Hajar, from the loyalty program , and Lina, working multiple restaurants, are 2 people that come to mind as providing standout service!
Last trip we tried Kedidi restaurant and really enjoyed it. This time we tried Prego, and it had excellent Italian food. The breakfast buffet is also awesome with a great variety of food from local to western to Indian and more. I especially love the fresh lettuce/ salad that is still growing and you cut the fresh leaves yourself…. Great concept!

The rooms are spacious with HUGE bathrooms, and the bed truly feels like heaven. The views are always spectacular, especially from the seaview rooms! On my recent trip, I stayed at the side of the hotel where the view wasn’t as breathtaking, but I could still catch a glimpse of the sea!

The beach is a stone’s throw away, with plenty of comfy beach chairs. Personally, I wish they weren’t placed behind the giant tree, which blocks the view of the sea a bit…
The Beach Bar might look unassuming, but the food and drinks are fantastic! The fish and chips were well seasoned and fried to perfection, enjoying it with the sound of waves in the background was such a vibe~ (Thank you Dexter for the recommendation!)
I also had in-room dining for the first time and it was a great experience! The club sandwich was freshly prepared and still hot when served. I really enjoy the steak fries here hehe
Amil, who brought my food up, was very professional in ensuring everything was perfectly arranged and even checked if I needed anything else before leaving. His thoughtfulness and attention to detail made me feel well taken care of! When I bumped into him at the lobby, his warm and personable personality made our interaction a delight as he kindly checked in on my stay.
The staff at Westin Desaru have all been lovely and truly go the extra mile. Moments like these may be fleeting, but it creates a lasting impact and made my stay a truly memorable one!

For this birthday-cation, we chose Westin Desaru for a 3D2N stay, marking our second visit to see Kedidi by Muara since the place was previously under renovation. Reservations were arranged by Alexados Chong, and the room had simple birthday decorations. Thank you so much!
Upon check-in, we were greeted by Aziaty, who was very informative. The bellman and concierge, Hafiz and Fairuz, were lovely and made sure to double-check our room while assisting with our luggage.
Our daughter was eager to go to the Westin Kids Club, where we met Anna, Nana, and Intan. They were caring and helpful, and our daughter spent hours there every day until check-out. A big shout-out to them for taking care of our daughter, nurturing her experience in arts, and even helping to put a plaster on her knee (she had fallen and gotten a scar before we arrived at the hotel).
As foodies, we tried Kedidi for lunch with the assistance of Wani and Faizal. They were friendly and provided great insights about the menu and food. At dinner, Fajar and Hikmah served us and convinced us to try the Western dishes, which were juicy and delicious.
At Seasonal Taste, we tried Nasi Goreng Desaru, Ayam Percik, and the Westin Burger, with Safiq accommodating us. The food presentation wowed us, and we still can't stop thinking about it. Kudos to the chef! During dinner, Teguh attended to us. Although I believe he was an intern, his service was impeccable—well-trained and courteous.
We also rented bicycles, with Iqbal and Roy assisting our daughter in buckling up and enjoying the ride. It would be nice to provide umbrellas or shelter for the staff, as it was very sunny and hot, but they happily accommodated us without hesitation.
We ended our vacation with a smooth check-out, attended by Atiqah, and were entertained by Mia and Haziq while waiting for our transport. They truly embodied hospitality and great service.
Overall, it was an excellent hotel and resort. Your team provided us with a wonderful experience, and we won’t hesitate to stay again whenever we visit Desaru.

We visited for 3 days/2 nights with another family with young children (both families 2 kids under 5yo). The resort is well set up for kids with an excellent Kids Club where the staff were super warm and helpful and kept them very entertained (note that kids over 4yo are charged at MYR10 p/h and kids under 4 require supervision). The pool is right by the KC which is super convenient and it's a great pool for kids as it's not too deep. They also have a smaller, shallower pool for the littles. The resort is right on the beach and the beaches were clean and looked great - however, due to the time of year we didn't swim as there was a jellyfish warning.
The food was pretty good but not amazing. Breakfast buffet was great with a huge variety of options - but note it got very busy after about 8am. Pool bar snacks and Prego were suitable for the kiddies but we adults were a bit disappointed by the Prego restaurant which was quite expensive and the quality wasn't on par. Room service was fast and efficient.
We chose to book a room on the ground floor with the outdoor garden which was excellent. The rooms were spacious, well maintained with a big bathroom with lovely amenities. We were very thankful for the garden so we could sit outside while the kids fell asleep - but the mozzies were out in force, so bug spray was definitely required. Perhaps the hotel could provide mosquito coils or set up an oil burner each evening...
The spa was super lovely! It wasn't cheap, but it was worth it. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing, the ladies were exceptionally professional and did a wonderful job. Overall, all of the resort staff were helpful, friendly and welcoming.

The Westin Desaru Coast Resort truly stands out as a hidden treasure along the beautiful coast of Desaru. Compared to other hotels in the area with high prices, the Westin offers rooms that are reasonably priced while maintaining a luxurious five-star resort experience. This was our second time choosing the Westin Desaru Coast Resort for our stay, which lasted for a delightful three nights from November 26th to November 29th.
When it comes to room choices, the tropical view rooms provide a fantastic panorama of the Desaru coast, featuring lush greenery. Opting for the garden view rooms means you'll be facing the iconic Hard Rock Hotel, while the Seaview rooms offer a stunning direct view of the beach.
The bed in the room is not only incredibly spacious but also incredibly comfortable, providing a perfect spot to relax and unwind after a long day. Additionally, you'll be pleased to know that the room offers fast and reliable internet access, ensuring you can easily stay connected throughout your stay.
If you find yourself in need of drying clothes or any other items, you'll be delighted to find a balcony just outside your room. Furnished with two chairs, a small table, and a convenient cloth hanger, it provides a convenient space to take care of your laundry needs while enjoying the fresh air.
As for future improvements, one suggestion I have for the hotel is to consider incorporating Netflix-ready TVs in the rooms. This feature would allow guests to seamlessly access their Netflix accounts by simply entering their account credentials into the TV. We had the pleasure of experiencing this feature in other Marriott hotels during our visits to Boston and NYC this year, and it provided an enhanced entertainment experience. It would be wonderful if the hotel could consider this for their future upgrades.
I must say, Erwin, the bartender in the lobby, is an exceptional and genuinely caring employee. He not only ensures that our drinks are delicious, but he goes above and beyond to make every guest feel special. One particular instance that stood out was when he took the time to chat with my son and even prepared a steaming cup of hot chocolate just for him. It's heartwarming to witness such kindness and attentiveness from Erwin. Thumbs up to him for creating such a wonderful experience!

This hotel far exceeded any of our expectations because it went above and beyond what we have seen from many hotels. Polished finishes seen in the pools at the hotel and in the room (weighing scales, bath salts, spacious balconies) to help fulfill the Westin’s wellness ethos. Very comfortable beds, great views and modern rooms. We loved them! Heavenly Spa was fantastic, albeit expensive. The food (breakfast at Seasonal Tastes, meals at Prego and Kedidi, as well as the Beach Bar). However, the teams across the hotel really made it for us. Thank you to everyone for being so smiley - a particular shoutout to Joan, Ikram, Regina, Santi and Hadikah at Kedidi, who were so friendly.

Overall: Westin Desaru truly stands out with its exceptional service team, undoubtedly the best I've encountered in my recent visits to 5-star hotels in Malaysia. It's even an ideal choice for a short weekend getaway, especially if you're a beach and seaside lover. The beach is meticulously maintained and free of rocks, offering a breathtaking seaside view.
Service: Kudos to The Westin Desaru for their outstanding service, featuring an exceptionally attentive and friendly team—a rare find in today's hotels in Malaysia. Throughout my stay, I noticed that every guest was warmly greeted with a smile by every member of the staff. This warm hospitality, combined with the stunning beach and seaside experience, made my stay truly memorable.
Room: The rooms is well maintained however the bed is too soft for me though. It's worth mentioning that a portion of the Westin property is currently undergoing renovation. To ensure a restful stay for guests in rooms closer to the construction site, they thoughtfully provided "comfort kit" included with earbuds, an eye cover, relaxing EO & etc. showing great attention to detail and guest comfort.

We booked a stay at The Westin Desaru as a pre-Christmas getaway. While we anticipated paying a premium due to the holiday season, we were willing to do so for a festive celebration. Unfortunately, the experience fell short of expectations, primarily due to inadequate staff training and under-resourcing. Despite the premium pricing, the hotel's facilities were poorly maintained.
The property appears significantly older compared to our visit 2-3 years ago, even though it had recently undergone renovations. For example, the steam room in the ladies' area was not turned on, and the one in the men's area was entirely non-functional.
Breakfast was another disappointment. The restaurant was overcrowded, with long queues outside waiting for tables. Once seated, we found very little food left, and many tables were left dirty and uncleared. The staff seemed overwhelmed, moving slowly and lacking proper training or motivation.
Our room was also not serviced despite being away for two hours and notifying housekeeping. It required two trips to the reception to get it addressed.
The air conditioning in the room is pretty poor. I don’t think they are properly maintained. Woke up sweating a lot in the middle of the night. And the water heater in the bathroom is hardly working. We paid extra for a premium room to enjoy the bathtub but sadly the water was not hot enough.
Additionally, the wine and beer selection was limited.
Needless to say, as gold Marriott member, our request to upgrade or for a late check-out were understandably turned down due to availability. I really hope the management looks into this ASAP to avoid more disappointments for people who travelled all the way here for Xmas. This is just very disappointing. We will probably not return given other better options here like the Hard Rock, Anantara and One and Only just next door.
The only redeeming aspect of the stay was the massage, which was excellent. Overall, the experience did not meet the standards expected for the price or the Westin/Marriott brand.

Thanks Westin Desaru for your hospitality for me and my partner’s weekend gateaway. Room are nice and smells good. I was mesmerized by the garden scenery in front of my room (I booked room with a garden view). At first, it feels weird when the hotel staff directed us to level 1 and I cannot describe the feeling. (Awkwarrd and weird) as I thought level 1 is for Parking. hahhaha. The hallway to my room at level 1 got no light, and the signage board is quite confusing but we managed to find the access door to our room.
I would like to thank and make an appreciation to two housekeeping staffs on 26/8/2023 at 1030am (one malay lady & the other one Im not sure wther malay or not but I really hope he knows this appreciation is for him). She rang the bell and that time I just came back from gym and fall sleep on my bed. She politely say sorry when she realised I was in the room and kept saying sorry. Obviously that was not her mistake to somehow “ambush” my room (rang the bell for 3 times) but she kept bowing and say sorry. Actually I wanna thank both of them for waking me up from that “unintentional” deep sleep since I need to go and meet someone at 1045am. When I came back to my room at 1230pm, I felt so touch when they even tidying up my cloths on my bed. Unfortunately, I didnt manage to get their names but I hope anyone from the hotel who reads this can convey this to them, and I will come again to Westin Desaru just to get that service and hospitality. Great job!
I also wanna thank this indian lady (i believe so) at the cafe (I had a chance to look at her nametag, but failed to get her name). My partner and I was looking for a table to have our breakfast, and there was one table that was available but the table full of leftovers and plates, and perhaps the staff didn’t aware of that. I then waving my hand to her, she came and offer her helps and straight away clear all the plates and leftovers on the table. I can say that she is a dedicated staff because she was making sure me and my partner are comfortable with the table. My partner really love her gesture and we talked about her and how she managed to make us feel comfortable. Thank you very much.
Definitely will come again and looking forward to Westin Desaru great hospitality.
