The positive online reviews of Chico Hot Springs set a high expectation bar. I am happy to report that that bar was exceeded to a significant degree. After a very long drive when we arrived immediately got the feeling that this isolated leafy oasis was well worth the arduous journey. We opted for one of the Main Lodge ensuite rooms located on the first floor. which ,as advertised lacked the distracting annoyance of a TV or phone. Plainly but pleasantly furnished it was just a few steps from the Lobby and the Chico Restaurant. From the Lodge Rooms one can walk directly to the hot springs pools via a meandering passageway. The immediate impression was that the water looked clean and fresh and felt sublime after our 6 hour journey. We were told that the pools are emptied every night and the pipes are pressure washed and it looked like it. The expansive lawn on the front of the Lodge was a perfect place to relax before dinner and watch the shadows stretch until evening. However our dinner at the Chico Dining Room was the capstone of our experience. First of all it is fully staffed by a professional team of servers who were competent, pleasant ad really seemed to enjoy what they were doing. Our sauteed mushroom appetizer, our entrees of Gorgonzola Filet and Bison Meatloaf was cuisine of the highest order. I cannot recommend the Flaming Orange dessert strongly enough. It tasted as spectacular as its pyrotechnical presentation. Our stay here was easily the highlight of our 7 day western trip.

The hot spring fed pool is SPECTACULAR. Great view of the surrounding hills. It is best enjoyed in the morning--in the evening it is crowded and, contrary to their posted rules, they allow folks to bring their drinks into the pool. The hotel is modest and certainly not new, but you're not there for the room! The restaurant is very traditional, but that said, very high quality. So if you're looking for a swanky, place with everything new, this isn't for you. But the hot spring pool makes it all worthwhile. We liked it so much that we booked it twice, once on the westward leg and then again on the eastward part of our trip. This is, by the way, a very convenient spot for Yellowstone, and also convenient to I-90.

Room Tip: Wide variety of room options. Main lodge with shared baths is quite cheap!

We have been coming to Chico for about 30 years now. The history of the resort and the charm is still it's greatest appeal. But it's becoming a bit run down and in need of some TLC (esp.deep cleaning)

Hubby and I were on our annual fly fishing trip and decided to take a break at Chico Hot Spring Resort AND Chico Hot Springs Day Spa. Dropped Hubby off to soak and drove up to Chico Hot Springs Day Spa, which I had gone online and looked at the massages offered and chose the Chico Massage. You enter into a serene atmosphere. I filled out a short form and then was greeted by Grace. Grace and I spoke about what I was looking for and the specific areas that needed attention. (I go to an acupuncturist weekly at home that uses massage also.)I settled on the table, already relaxed by the soothing soft music. Grace has amazing hands and a truly calming spirit. Grace gave me the best massage I have had. She was able to get into all the tight muscles and limber me up for the second half of our fishing trip. If you plan to spend any time in Paradise Valley, and are looking to relax, book a massage with Grace. It’s the best thing I’ve done for myself on our fly fishing trips.

I think the reviews, even the good ones, can't really capture Chico. It's the real deal, unpretentious, comfortable, Chico lets the Absaroka surroundings, the mountain air, horses, trails, the hot springs pool, and A+++ dining do the job. We were there a bunch of years ago with our two young kids, only for a night or two, and have never forgotten it. We stopped there after visiting Yellowstone. For our east coast family, this was Nirvana. Btw, this Trip Advisor site wouldn't let me select the actual date, which was about 20 years ago. From everything I've read and seen, it's still very much the same as I recall it.
