Very mediocre motel/hotel. Its location is its only real draw. Rooms were noisy from second floor and wall noises from bathroom area made for not so good a sleep. Rooms were clean but no refrigerator or microwave and NO coffee in room. If you choose to stay, remember it's for it location to Yellowstone NP.

We decided very last minute to add on to our vacation a visit to Yellowstone. Due to this all of the reasonably priced lodging on the southwest side of the park was already booked so we found this place that was within our price range. We realized that it was about a 3 hour drive one way from the north...

We stayed at Soda Butte Lodge Aug. 2-6, 2016. We planned to see Yellowstone National Park, and accommodations in the park were full. We chose Soda Butte because it was only 4 miles from the NE entrance to Yellowstone, the price was very reasonable, and the other tripadvisor reviews said it was very clean. They were right. Although the lodge...

Drove from Cody to here stopping to make many photos in Y'stone. Be aware this is an older, small mountain town and there is no cell phone service, but there is internet service. Just keep in mind that this isn't Napa Valley. The hotel-- Two story and no elevator if you have lots of luggage. Nobody to help with luggage....

Rooms are clean and it's a great hotel. Only thing is they have no a/c and not all rooms have fans. Makes for a toasty arrival until the windows are open long enough to cool it off. The food in the restaurant was very good too. I enjoyed the stay here

This motel is situated high in a mountain town with a population of about 100. Cooke city is a small turist town at Yellowstone Park north east entrance. Soda butte lodge has nice accomodations and a price lower than others. There is a nice lounge and resteraunt in the motel. The views from anywhere are something to take in, in...

Staff was very unfriendly and rude. Bed with iron bars was uncomfortable. Their pillows weren't good at all. I have neck/shoulder problem if I don't get comfortable pillows. I requested them multiple times, but no one ever turned up. Finally they declined. AC/Heater was as good as not working - you can experience the change in temperature after about 2...

This is an awesome place to stay. Rooms were comfortable even without AC. Good places to eat nearby and in the hotel itself though a little pricey. Wonderful views, very nice staff...the only complaint was that the water in the shower was difficult to control in terms of water temp. It would go from hot to cold to extremely hot...

We stayed 4 nights while we visited Yellowstone Park. Much cheaper than most lodging in the Park and very accessible. Only couple miles to the NE gate. It is an old log lodge and that is what it is, so don't expect ultra modern anything! But overall it was fine. By the way, in Cooke City the best place for...

It was fine. I didn't expect fancy. The wifi is weak, the furnishings are old and simple, there's no pool, but wow, the view out my window was fantastic, the beds were comfy, everything was clean, and the restaurant was very good.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Cooke City is situated in the Beartooth Absaroka mountains. Accessible via Montana Hwy 212 Beartooth Scenic Highway, Chief Joseph Scenic Hwy 296 and Yellowstone National Park. Soda Butte Lodge is located on Main Street in the center of town. Our 32 guest rooms are located on two floors of the motel. We are also, the only full service motel in Cooke City with 3-meal restaurant and sports bar full liquor. The large lobby is a great place to relax, by the fireplace or by the windows to "people watch", play cards, read or visit with friends. We are just 3 1/2 miles from the north east entrance to Yellowstone National Park and the infamous Lamar Valley where "wolf watching" is very popular. The area is ideal for wildlife viewing, horseback riding, fishing, hiking, 4 wheeling and many photo-ops. Winter in Cooke City is unlike no other. Extreme snowmobiling, snowboarding and cross country skiing at its' finest. Winter, the lodge, is only accessible through Yellowstone Park (Mammoth) or drive over Chief Joseph to Pilot Creek parking lot and snowmobile in the last 9 miles. Our area is rich in the things money can't buy: history, beauty, wildlife and hospitality. ... more   less
