Welkam tu awas ailen hoem (Welcome to our island home). Selwyn Cottage is a private, quiet, self-contained one bedroom haven in a beautiful garden with mountain and valley views. The cottage is a short walk from Palm Glen, a sub-tropical rain forest with abundant bird life, and walking tracks through the National Park. And it is only minutes from the shopping precinct, beaches, and the 'living history' of some of the world's best convict built buildings in World Heritage Listed Kingston. Descendants of the Mutiny on the Bounty landed at Kingston on the 8th June 1856 to begin the settlement of Norfolk as granted to them by Queen Victoria. Today's Islanders are a unique people with their own language and a strong culture. The accommodation contains elegant furnishings in an open-plan living / lounge / dining area, and offers every comfort.

Selwyn Cottage is comfortable well-appointed well located and very private. We enjoyed our holiday in Norfolk Island due to Tim's kindness and attention to detail. Nothing was too much trouble. It was great to be able to use onsite laundry facilities, watch our regular TV programs and sporting events albeit an hour later and relax on the deck
The car was housed in the garage next to the house and Tim picked us up at the airport and explained what was where in the town on our journey to the cottage
The gardens were lovely and so was the cottage. The bed was cosy and comfortable.
Breakfast provisions for first morning lasted a few days.
We would definitely recommend Selwyn Cottage as a good value for money venue with friendly helpful owners.

Tim and Laura have put together a very comfortable homely cottage.
The one bedroom cottage has everything you will need for a fantastic stay.
You are supplied in the kitchen with all your cooking utensils and crockery. A large fridge, a excellent microwave and plenty of preparation room if you require it.
The cottage has more than ample space and the bathroom is excellent with natural local pine.
Washing machine and dryer are provided.
Everything and I say everything right down to walking poles are there.
Must mention the back veranda which has a Weber BBQ where you can enjoy a great sunny private aspect overlooking the back garden.
The goodies provided for breakfast were quality and the bottle of wine enjoyed.
Car and a complimentary voucher were also provided.
The location is perfect to the National Park and town.

We had first booking after several months of Covid effecting market.
Cottage had all required except for WiFi capacity over 13 days.
Car supplied in has carport beside front door. There is free pick up from plane - arr. only on Saturday from BNE & return on Fridays. Kitchen has Gas stove top one with Wok holder & Electric oven.
2 dr. Kelvinator fridge. Lounge has a modern LCD TV with all main stations available. Roosters crow most of day - spring.
The rear verandah is north facing & great for watching the feral chook families.
Many of the local businesses run on restricted hours but there are several open each day. We ate at the Bowling Club, High Tide Kitchen, Cafe Tempo & Golden Orb. All were good but the Golden Orb the best.

Tim picked us up from the airport and explained the facilities in town on the way to the cottage.
The cottage was a delight, everything you would need.Peace and tranquility and so close to town - how wonderful is that!
The gardens, birds and National Park were a delight to look out onto.
The breakfast provisions were very generous which gave me one less thing to think about.
The hire car included made everything so easy.
Tim's kindness and knowledge of where to find birds was a godsend. Had a great time.
Would highly recommend this property.

We have recently returned from our second visit to Norfolk Island and are looking forward to going back again!
On both occasions we stayed at Selwyn Cottage a delightful and well appointed one bedroom cottage with magnificent Valley views from the living area and the bedroom. Everything that you need is supplied for a perfect holiday for two including candles and relaxing music. Hosts, John and Jan, are pleasant and very accommodating. They told us that they are planning a few renovations which can only improve things even more. A car is included which is a must for getting around the Island. It only takes about 3 minutes to get to the centre of town.
As this was our second stay we relaxed a lot more than our first, but some recommendations on your visit are historic Kingston, the Cyclorama, Captain Cook Memorial, Fish Fry, Mutiny on the Bounty show, half day orientation tour, Mt Pitt, a walk around the cemetery and there's so much! You can do as much or as little as you like.
There is a wide variety of wonderful shops to explore, although we found some prices not to be as inexpensive as a couple of years ago. The liquor bond store offers 30% discount on sprits and liquors on presentation of your airline ticket, but check your prices before you go. If you would like a special gift for yourself or someone special a visit to Diamonds Exclusive is a must. Brenda will look after you with unsurpassed service and quality jewelllery.
This time we dined at Stephano's and Branka House which were both delightful. Branka House is a lovingly restored first settlement home proudly displaying their history. They are only open for lunch and while the menu is not extensive the tastes, service and atmosphere is perfect. Cafe Tempo is wonderful for coffee and a light snack and lunch.
Norfolk Island is the perfect destination for busy couples or families that need some "time out". There is definitely no fast pace attractions there and that’s why it is so magical, along with the breathtaking scenery, interesting history and the most wonderful friendly locals. We can't wait to return again, we just love it!

Right from the time we landed, we were met by Tim. Tim was very kind, pointing out the places in town as we drive to our accommodation. When we arrived, I was in awe. The cottage was simply stunning!! It was private, no close tourist neighbours, just us and the local pine trees and birdlife. It is the quietest spot, still close to the main centre of town. Have already booked our next stay, had to change our dates, due to the demand for this property. It is no wonder why, as it is simply amazing. A home away from home!
Highly recommend. i have been to Norfolk island many times on holiday, and have stayed at many places, but, no other accommodation compares to Selwyn Cottage!

We backed a winner when we chose to stay at Selwyn Cottage.
We were greeted by the lovely Laura, who picked us up from the airport and gave us a general tour of the town in our hire car, before taking us to our digs.
Selwyn Cottage was perfectly located just up the hill from Burnt Pine township. It was set in beautiful private gardens and best of all was whisper quiet. Perfect!
It had EVERYTHING we required ie full kitchen with microwave, gas stove, microwave, dishwasher, oodles of crockery, cutlery etc, comfy lounge/dining room with tv and Bose radio, sundrenched patio with bbq, comfortable bedroom, updated bathroom with washer and dryer. Then there were the little thing like breakfast supplies for the first morning (bread, milk avocados butter, eggs, cereals, jams), free WIFI, mobile phone, snorkeling gear, walking poles, CDs, games.........I could go on and on!
We met the other owner Tim during the week. A wealth of local knowledge and great friendly company. He even came to say goodbye to us at the airport.
We had an awesome stay!
Highly recommend this property.

Oxley Travel recommended Selwyn Cottage and they can certainly continue to do so with confidence as the owners provided the most friendly and obliging service you could imagine....
Selwyn Cottage is beautifully located in a private well maintained garden a short scenic drive from town.. Amenities are completely in keeping with expectations of a pampered very comfortable vacation. We cannot think of any item to add to the facilities. We appreciated the wine, beers and many little luxuries provided. It was great to sit on the sunny decking overlooking the gardens.Tim welcomed us at the airport and on way to the cottage gave much useful advice and to our delight Tim even came to the airport to say goodbye and share a coffee We would enthusiastically recommend Selwyn Cottage to the newly wed, business persons and couples.

This was our first visit to Norfolk Island and we could not have been happier with our choice of accommodation. For someone seeking peace and quite and self-contained facilities Selwyn cottage is ideal. The cottage is fully equipped with everything and includes the use of a car as well as a phone to use while on the island. The backyard is fully private and your outlook is a variety of colours throughout the garden.....lovely to look at while sitting on back verandah with a wine in hand!!! The owner insisted he was only a phone call away. We give Selwyn 11 out of 10!!!

We have just returned from a very enjoyable 7 day stay in Selwyn Cottage, Norfolk Island. We were met at the airport by our host, Jan, who drove us to the cottage in the car that we were to have for the week. Jan was very warm and welcoming, which set the tone for our Norfolk Island experience. We were delighted with the cottage, which is tastefully decorated. It is very comfortable and is situated in the midst of a delightful garden. It was a joy to take breakfast on the verandah, looking over the garden to see Norfolk Pines to the north. The Palm Garden portion of the National Park is at the end of the road. The cottage is close to Burnt Pine township and central to the delights of Norfolk Island. It was an excellent base from which to explore the island.

We found all staff at restaurants, shops and tours to be very helpful. Margaret Christian's Discovery tour through Baunti was a great introduction to the island. Margaret is a former national park ranger and has wonderful stories to tell of the island. Her bird book is very well structured and useful in identifying the varieties of birds to be seen on the Island.

We visited Aatuti Art which is ran by Jan and John where we purchased a framed print from the art of Sue Pearson. John was able to package this print securely and it arrived safely. Jan was very knowledgeable about the art and artefacts of the island and their warmth and assistance made our trip even more memorable. We enjoyed the beauty of the island, its role in Australian history and most of all, the interactions with the Pitcairners and their culture.

We will be coming back to Norfolk Island, and if travelling as a couple, will stay again at Selwyn Cottage.
