The resort is inviting, comfortable + clean and the feeling of welcome is ever present. The absolute "icing on the cake" is Tima, the resort manager, who went above and beyond to ensure that your stay was wonderful.

We were very disappointed in this accommodation as it is nothing like it promotes itself as. The good points: Tima was great and helpful host. Bed and linen comfortable. Breakfast starter pack was thoughtful. The whole "resort" needs maintenance. There are no spa facilities and haven't been for several years I believe, yet it is still advertised as available. An updated website would have been useful so not to raise expectations. The heated pool is in a delipidated courtyard and unappealing surrounds. It is a requirement that the user remove and replace the pool cover which we found to be a 2 person job. None of public areas were appealing and a few garden beds were interspersed with what is essential a big carpork. I was most disappointed with the fact that there was no view from back door, front door or window only fences and driveways. On an island with such beautiful vistas we would have booked elsewhere if we had known the reality. The ancient gas heater did not work. No fresh linen change but offered clean towels mid stay.

We are sorry that you were disappointed with your stay. However, we thank you for your valuable feedback. By the way, we offer an excellent spa service including the sauna and heated pool, and spa baths. Perhaps there may be some confusion with another entity.

My wife and I stayed at the Cumberland Resort for a week. On arrival we thought that the resort looked a bit run down, but we were reassured by the warmth of the welcome and our accommodation was newly refurbished and spotless. Our package included the supply of a car and although it was fairly old, like the vast majority of vehicles on Norfolk Island, it did the job very well. Cumberland Resort is self catering, but all the essentials were supplied in a starter kit, and could be topped up by guests as needed. The resort is located at the far end of Burnt Pine, coming from the airport, but is only a short walk to the shops, restaurants etc. It is very handy for tours, sight seeing etc. The resort would be very appealing to families or friends holidaying together, with a variety of accommodation, a good size pool and of course spa facilities. However the big draw are the friendly and helpful staff who go out their way to assist visitors.

Recently two couples and a friend travelled from WA to Norfolk Island and stayed there for 8 days. Our accommodation was at Cumberland Resort and Spa were we booked two adjoining units which had 3 bedrooms and three ensuites, ideal for personal privacy. The units were immaculate and had all things ne essary for us to do what we needed to without eating out all the time. The beds were beautiful and comfortable and the lined top quality. The units are set in lovely gardens and quiet surroundings just a short walk walking distance to town. There are outside undercover areas ideal for relaxing in the fresh Norfolk air with electric jugs, cups and utensils if you want to sit outside. Tima and Rael were in charge and they were wonderful and very helpful especially with Technology which gets the better of the older generation. Having done quite a lot of travelling we would highly recommend Cumberland and would highly recommend them for your stay on the beautiful island with friendly, lovely residents.

A lovely place to stay! I went with my mum and sister. We stayed at The Cumberland for four nights and had 2 units that were interconnecting. Each room had its own ensuite which was wonderful. It seems like it has been recently renovated as everything was very clean and modern. Comfortable lounge and kitchen with everything you could need. Tima was a lovely host with a warm smile. Nothing was too much trouble at all. She looked after us so well and there was even a fresh loaf of bread and eggs in the fridge for us! The beds are sooooo comfortable too! Within walking distance to town. You can also hire a car from them as well. Could not fault The Cumberland at all!

I booked this on the basis of a swim spa and on-site massage. Managers first words were the day spa was closed. This should have been told at time of booking! My impression was it had been closed for a while. No reason was given. The swim spa did not look like the picture on the brochure: Decking needed re painting, tropical plants dead or non existent in wall planters, spa jet buttons were mouldy. Pool was covered with a tatty tarp that guests were told to roll up and back. I couldn't do it on my own and don't think that is the guest's job. Worse still on our last swim the pool was green, clearly not been maintained with chemicals. We did not go in. If I had seen up to date photos of the pool I would have booked a place with an on-site Cafe instead. Room was functional and fine but not 4 stars. 1000 thread sheets ? Microfibre I think. Bathroom had cracks around bath....not a sumptuous feel. Old rusty looking heater, rusty handles in kitchen. Bed was comfy. Possibly this was an older room...if so, charge less! Resort it is not. Cars are the major view in the middle, has some nice gardens although our tin fence blocked them from view Manager and owner friendly and helpful, car good, breakfast starters appreciated but paying TOP prices I expected more. Don't book if day spa and pool are important!

We stayed here for 2 nights and found it quite comfortable. It wasn't quite what I was expecting - to my mind it's not a resort, but it had everything we needed. The staff were lovely and Timo was exceptional - so helpful and efficient. A car was included with our stay, we just had to pay a little for insurance, and that was really great. While we were there we had a visit from Cyclone Gabrielle. The staff provided us with information and kept us well informed as to what was happening and what we needed to do. There were free DVDs available for us to watch and we managed to watch four - we had to spend a whole day inside sheltering from the storm, so those DVDs helped take our mind off the noise of the storm. It was a bit scary but our accomodation was very sturdy. No casualties except a lot of avocados that came off the tree!

I wrote a review yesterday that I posted and am unable to edit. In fairness to Management/owner I did not point out some positive facts. Issues we had and reported were attended to promptly & efficiently. The bed was very very comfortable. The unit had everything in it we needed. The BBQ was very clean. One of our biggest issue was miscommunication from Cumberland when we booked regarding their car availability for $34 a day and that every unit has a car provided. Had we have known this we would not have hired a car externally. Airport pick up to Cumberland said “for a small fee”, so we picked up our externally hired car a day early on arrival from the airport. We were told afterwards that it is a “free” pick up. Hope this clarifies some positives it was not all gloom and doom and we thoroughly enjoyed our time on Norfolk. Suzanne F

We chose this accommodation to stay, celebrating our 50th Wedding anniversary based on the marketed photos…well, judging from those photos the unit we were given was very sub standard, so disappointing, It was expensive to us. I will not go fully into the issues and problems. On the up side the features that are promoted are all there. Communication was very poor. Would we ever stay here again.. NO. Would we return to Norfolk Island YES. We did check out alternate accommodation for our next visit. Loved Norfolk and the lovely friendly people we met, a beautiful place to visit.

We are disappointed that we did not meet the guest's expectations on this occasion. Our communications are considered excellent, starting with detailed information before arrival, and fulltime onsite reception during the stay. Despite clear written communication to the guest before arrival that a Cumberland rental car is allocated with every booking, they mistakenly assumed (without checking with us) that we only had one or two rental cars, and so they rented an expensive rental car from another company. We have a whole fleet of rental cars (more cars than we ever need), and have never been short of any rental cars. It is just another amenity that we offer to every guest as a convenience.
