We stayed here recently for our honeymoon and were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived and were shown around our villa, up until the moment we left, we were treated like family.

On arrival, we received a complimentary breakfast pack (eggs, bread, butter, milk and juice along with an assortment of condiments) - oh, and a bottle of sparkling wine!

The accommodation was very comfortable; two king size rooms, an en-suite with massive shower off one of the rooms and a shower over spa tub in another.

The lounge was equipped with dvd player (and hundreds of dvds to borrow from the office) and with free WIFI internet (which can be patchy with iphones but we got around that problem).

Laundry was $5 per load; $5 for washing and $5 for clothes drier (there was no need for the drier as the weather was perfect and clothes could be hung on the line provided in the cabin).

The resort provided a rental car complimentary (with only the insurance to be paid daily) which was very useful to explore the island.

There was a heated spa on-site which was lovely to take a dip in.

There were three little dogs on site who belonged to the owner; the dogs were so friendly.

I can't thank Gail and Rael enough for our wonderful stay. We saw Gail and Rael most days on their walk past our cabin and were always with a smile on their face.

Our stay of 9 days was great. Cumberland is well located along from the main part of town but not too close to be noisy. The suite we had was fine, with lots of additional extras included. We didn’t use the oven but the cooktop was fine. The fridge is equipped with some goodies to start you off, there’s a dishwasher too. Our suite had a private outdoor area. Being at this location there are no water views.

Tema the Manager is so helpful and obliging and we had massages with Meme on day 2 which were sensational. All the staff were friendly and up for a quick chat.

We had use of a car for several days while here and that also was fuss free. The suite was clean, bed comfortable, plenty of hot water for good showers. Cumberland is not The Ritz but it’s pretty good! Being August we didn’t use the spa or other facilities.
We borrowed a picnic basket, and Tema also provided a thermos and picnic blanket. Service is excellent.

We stayed at Cumberland Resort and Spa, Norfolk Island, for 10 nights in a two bedroom unit. We were met at the airport by Baunti Tours who provided the transfer to Cumberland. On arrival we were met by Tima (Operations Manager) who provided a warm welcome. She took us to our unit and explained essential information such as the arrangements for changing towels, the operating procedure for the gas stove and the system for recycling rubbish. The entire unit was spotlessly clean. It was spacious. The kitchen was modern with a full- sized fridge. The cupboards and drawers were well stocked with the all of the things you would expect to find, such as plates, cups, cutlery, saucepans, frypan, toaster, electric jug, etc. There were plenty of cutting knives – and they were sharp! In the combined lounge / dining room, there was a good sized dining room table and a comfortable lounge. We appreciated the Foxtel TV channels. The two bedrooms had comfortable beds and high quality pillows, all with clean linen. There was adequate storage space in the cupboards. Once we had settled in, we made our way to the office to sign the car rental contract, pay the insurance and collect the keys. We were in for a pleasant surprise, because the allocated car was brand new. Like the unit, the car was spotlessly clean. On day 2, we made our way to the office, where we met Rael (Manager). Rael’s welcome was warm and friendly, just like Tima’s the day before. We asked Raul to make some tour bookings and restaurant bookings for us. The bookings were promptly made. When it came to local recommendations about what to do on the island, Rael was a wealth of knowledge. During the rest of our stay, whenever Rael or Tima saw us, they acknowledged us and asked us how we were going. We were treated more like a family member rather than a customer. Cumberland Resort and Spa is located in a central spot. It is in the main street. You can walk to the shops and cafes in two to three minutes. Directly opposite is the Gas Pump which is a garage selling fuel and a convenience store in one. The shop is quite interesting, as it has a historical theme with many artifacts and photos on display. Because Cumberland is geographically situated in the middle of the island, most attractions, such as the National Park, Mount Pitt, Captain Cook’s Landing Lookout, Anson’s Bay, Emily Bay, the Hundred Acres Reserve, the Kingston Convict Ruins and surrounding museums can be reached by car in no more than 15 minutes. All good things come to an end and we were sad to leave the island. We will come back again and will definitely be re-booking a stay at Cumberland Resort and Spa - Peter and Alex

It is interesting to read the reviews of this accommodation. Some love it, others not so keen. I had visions of a 4 star resort and instead found a tired, unloved property. At least that was the way the unit was that we stayed in. Not reflected on the website which may include views from another property that the owner runs. When I asked about daily servicing I was told that was not possible due to the shortage of water on the island. This was a little unusual because this facility had spa baths which I could have used everyday, but chose not to. Clearly stated in the unit was a notice saying "Speak to us" this was instead of complaining on line after the event. I did this and was met, initially, with an offhand attitude although to be fair the matters I spoke of were rectified. I have pictures to share which back up my claims. So the heated towel rail (pictured below) which was there so you could dry your towels rather than request clean ones, would barely hold one towel. And be prepared to empty your own rubbish bins. Never had to that before and I have been to Norfolk six times. To present a rental car with torn seat covers was not acceptable - they were replaced when I drew it to the owner's attention but the replacements didn't fit the seats. The cracked edging around the bath (see picture) the rusty clothes rack to hang your washing on (see picture) and the loose internal door handle (see picture) are just some of the issues that you wouldn't expect in a 4 star property. Added to that was the most uncomfortable couch to sit on. I was disappointed. I was impressed with the fact that the owner replaced the faulty dishwasher when asked. I have stayed in 4 star and 5 star accommodation and my expectations were not over inflated. Just do your research before considering this property. The owner wants to sell it and seems to have lost heart.

Thank you for your one star review which you indicated to us on your first day of arrival that you would post. As you know, Norfolk Island is currently experiencing its worst drought since records were kept in 1891, and the community is desperately trying to conserve water. 2024 was the worst year on record for Norfolk Island rainfall. The island relies 100% on rainwater. We serviced the unit daily as requested by this guest, and addressed every single item that did not meet her expecations. We always went out of our way to try to meet or exceed all her expectations, including replacing a faulty dishwasher on Christmas eve, which was quite a feat on Norfolk Island. By the way, the dishwasher was previously working well even during this guest's stay, but any appliance can break down unexpectedly. We always try to make every guest as comfortable as possible, and will address any item without delay. It is interesting that in the same period that this guest stayed with us, we received excellent feedback from our other guests, including 5 star reviews. This is consistent with our TripAdvisor rating of 4.5 out of 5, which demonstates that 90% of our guests who post reviews on TripAdvisor rate us highly. We are very proud of our reputation and will continue our quest to do our best to give our guests a wonderful experience.

We had the most wonderful week on Norfolk staying here and enjoying the warmest hospitality provided by Rael & his staff, especially Gaye. Nothing was ever too much bother for them and our stay and comfort was their utmost priority. Upon arrival we were surprised to receive an upgrade to the house at the back of the property which definitely made our time more comfortable with so much room to spread out, beneficial when travelling with friends. We were given a breakfast basics package of bread, eggs, milk, butter & spreads which helped enormously until we got settled and organised. The garden also has several fruit trees that you can help yourself to the fruit. The complimentary car that goes with your booking was fantastic. We had to pay for the daily insurance, but to not have to go elsewhere to organise car hire was awesome and it gave us so much freedom to explore the island while there. We booked night tours generally (that can be organised at reception) and we were always picked up at the covered bus stop at the front of the complex. The Resort itself is an easy walk to the town centre and a large range of bars/restaurants. I can't remember the last place I stayed that was as welcoming and accommodating as Cumberland, so thank you Rael and your staff for a wonderful stay on Norfolk....we will recommend to our friends.

Tima, Rael and the team provided fantastic service during our stay at the Cumberland.
They helped with making bookings for activities and restaurants and nothing was too difficult to help with.
It is a clean and comfortable place, a bit older with fully self contained villas and full kitchens including BBQs.
As other have said, a bit tired and needing a bit of maintenance however you have to understand this is an island with deliveries only every 2 weeks so getting supplies is challenging for the locals.
I would say it you are comfortable accepting it for what it is and getting in sync with the laid back island lifestyle you will be happy with this place.
The big plus is the location along the main road in town so easy walking distance to cafes, restaurants and the shops.

Seven months ago we booked a executive spa suite because the photos associated with that suite looked fantastic for our group of two couples in our 70’s. Unfortunately arriving at the accomodation our suite was nothing like the photos and description on their website. The manager informed us we had been upgraded to a romantic spa suite as it had a bigger spa bath. I also checked the website for price on romantic spa suite and the only difference is you are supposed to get flowers candles etc. we did not get those. Really two couples travelling together and average age of Norfolk Island visitors at a guess average age in 70’s? Of course spa bath was not used. The managers suggestion at our disappointment was to downgrade us to executive spa suite as we requested. I agreed to that but of course that suite was not available. His next suggestion was to refund our money and we could look for something else. Not an easy task when Norfolk Island does not have local transport, taxis etc. all we wanted was what was shown in the pictures of what we booked. The unit was well stocked quite clean but very pokey for four adults. The so called private outdoor area was also a great disappointment. It was open to the drive way entrance from the main road. Anyone walking or driving past had full view into that area.
I will try and post photos of what we expected and what we actually received. Tima had been excellent with communicating from time of booking until we arrived. Although she was aware of our disappointment she did not address the situation with me. Maybe because I had already taken up the issue with her manager.
Such a shame we were so unlucky with I would guess the least most popular unit in the group as the location is fantastic and units really do have everything you need.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that we did not meet all your expectations despite providing a free upgrade. All the pictures are 100% accurate. It is not something on which we would risk our excellent reputation. Every villa has a different layout but has identical amenities, but the guest insisted on one specific villa, which was already booked. The guest turned down our offer for a full refund, and the offer to move to the other villa when it became available. We are proud to showcase every single villa on our website. They all provide excellent 4 star comfort with some unique amenities, such as the spa baths, massage spa showers, cable TV, TV's in bedrooms, heated towel rail, free movies, excellent free Wi-Fi, rental car, tour desk, day spa, etc. We are pleased that you enjoyed the cleanliness, and that the units were well stocked and had everything that any guest would need. We are also pleased that you enjoyed the central location and the allocation of the resort rental car for your exclusive use throughout your stay.

We stayed 12 nights at Cumberland and couldn't have been happier. It is a short walk to town, rooms were clean and very well appointed, and the staff were great. We stayed in Unit 3, a two bedroom unit with a fully equipped kitchen, spa showers (perfect - I want one at home) and a spa bath. Large screen TV with Foxtel, and a smaller TV in each bedroom. We loved the included breakfast starter pack and the outside BBQ area. The gardens are lovely and the common areas clean. The pool is small, but lovely and is heated. We also liked all the 'extras' - condiments, pool towels, picnic set.
The one and only negative was the lack of a dining table, although I don't know where one for fit in the unit. We ate breakfast in the BBQ area but it was too cool in the evenings so ate at the breakfast bar in the kitchen, which wasn't very comfortable. We highly recommend Cumberland Resort & Spa and would happily stay there again on future visits.

Everyone at Cumberland Resort was wonderful! They all went above and beyond and were always very helpful and lovely. We paid extra for a baby pack such included a cot, high chair and car seat but when we got there one of the girls went and found a baby bath and changing table for us too which was very thoughtful. They were also very thoughtful to not ring us in the morning (we received various messages during our 2 week stay) so as not to wake baby! Tima and Rael particularly were also on hand to help and offer advice on where to go and what to see and helped us with bookings etc. (As a side note there is currently no option to use any mobile, Australian or otherwise on norfolk. If you need data or phone calls you need to purchase a sim card. You can buy a tourist plan for $20 which gives you and calls and 2gb data. If you need to be on the internet I'd recommend this as WiFi on the island is very temperamental!)
The accommodation itself has everything you need, oven, microwave, fridge freezer, picnic set which we used many times!! We had a fab king bed with the best softest sheets ever!! Do not expect modern suped up technology as it is not what this island is about and would be totally out of place on norfolk island.
Our flight was delayed by 24hours due to bad weather and we were lucky no one had booked into our villa after us so we were able to stay another night. The resort has an extensivr dvd selection so we happily watched films all day😆

Recently two couples and a friend travelled from WA to Norfolk Island and stayed there for 8 days. Our accommodation was at Cumberland Resort and Spa were we booked two adjoining units which had 3 bedrooms and three ensuites, ideal for personal privacy. The units were immaculate and had all things ne essary for us to do what we needed to without eating out all the time. The beds were beautiful and comfortable and the lined top quality. The units are set in lovely gardens and quiet surroundings just a short walk walking distance to town. There are outside undercover areas ideal for relaxing in the fresh Norfolk air with electric jugs, cups and utensils if you want to sit outside. Tima and Rael were in charge and they were wonderful and very helpful especially with Technology which gets the better of the older generation. Having done quite a lot of travelling we would highly recommend Cumberland and would highly recommend them for your stay on the beautiful island with friendly, lovely residents.

Unfortunately there is no such thing as unlimited internet plans anywhere on Norfolk Island. However, if you exceed your free daily allowance you can wait until the next day for it to be refreshed, or you can purchase additional Wi-Fi packages at Cumberland for relatively cheaply (eg. 1 Gig for less than $20 which is very cheap for Norfolk Island).
