Light and airy. Tropical feel. Lunch until 4pm served with a smile. Other restaurants close at 2pm. Cider and boutique beers on tap. Delicious cocktails. Some healthy choices on the menu. Remember everything is imported and if the boat can’t get in because of the weather then the food shops are empty. You can take any food with you to Norfolk.
We stayed at Castaway for 7 nights in a motel-style room. It was spacious and had all we needed. Room included its own bathroom, free-to-air TV, small table & chairs, outdoor seating, a small fridge and a kettle. There is also a handy shared kitchen you can use if you want to cook your own meals. Location is handy to town. Situated at the southern end of Burnt Pine it is walkable to most shops for those with reasonable mobility. Partial views of the ocean from some rooms. The brewery is excellent. Great spot on the deck to sit and waste away the hours. Friendly staff.
We stayed at Castaway for 9 days. It was supposed to be 7 days but thanks to cyclone Dovi we had an extended holiday! We had a self contained unit. The amenities in the kitchen were adequate for our needs and we were able to Cook the fish we caught in our fishing trips. Sarah and Tony go out of their way to do what they can to make it a pleasant stay. Unfortunately, they were put under the pump due to some staff illness which meant the usual room service was not done. However, we were happy to just get our clean towels and make our own bed each day to reduce the load on them. The bed was comfortable. The location is lovely. The brewery is a plus but again it was closed more than open during our stay. The Friday pizza night is excellent and requires booking. We would have gone back for a second time when we couldn’t leave the island but again, it was closed🥴. Not their fault, all of the glitches were out of their control. No matter how friendly and helpful they were, they were battling the odds during our stay. I imagine when things calm down, things would be even better. We would stay there again but not until covid settles and hopefully might get better weather. Again, totally out of everyone’s control. Wish Sarah and Tony and their lovely staff all the best.…
We had the pleasure of staying here for a week in December 2021 with some friends. We loved the location, Our two bedroom apartment was clean and the kitchen was well stocked with utensils. Having Norfolk Island brewery onsite was a nice little bonus after a thirsty days adventuring the island. A lot of the clubs and eateries were within walking distance of this centrally located resort. Nothing was a problem for the owners and staff. Gotta love the Norfolk hospitality. We'll be back.
Large comfortable 1 bed apartment with gorgeous views over the valley out to Phillip Island. Ask for room with a view. We had all the weather in the week we were there and my only issue was the rattling of the glass sliding doors in the wind. Hubby fixed it by wedging a thong between door and frame. Couldn’t fault the friendliness of staff and owners and having the restaurant/bar onsite was very handy. Especially for my husband who lives his beer! The brew was excellent apparently.
We recently stayed at Castaway with a small tour group. The rooms are very large with all the usual, mini fridge, good sized bathroom, no aircon but ceiling fans which did the job although in the warmer months might be a struggle. The breakfast was very nice, plenty of choice. Staff lovely especially the dining room staff. Gardens are lovely to walk through. A very easy walk into the town and RSL across the road. The only thing missing would be a pool in summer.
I enjoyed a wonderful 7 night stay in one of the front rooms, with the full length covered verandah. My room was large, very comfortable and very clean. Everything I needed was provided. Hosts Sarah and Tony could not have been more welcoming, friendly and accommodating. They were always available to offer a greeting and assistance if needed. All meals provided in the restaurant were delicious, and the staff were friendly and interesting to have a chat. The attached brewery was a surprise bonus. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Castaway and would definitely stay there again. Now that our world is opening up I would recommend Norfolk Island and Castaway to anyone who wants to enjoy a relaxing get away.
Very comfortable, with all amenities close by. Provides full bar facilities with the added feature of it"s own Craft Brewery within the Bar facility. Meals are available over the Friday and weekend period. The Pork Roast on the Sunday was perfect.
We stayed for 7 nights as most people would do based upon the weekly flights in. We stayed in Room 4 which was a fully renovated one bedroom apartment. The king size bed was very comfortable for the two of us, the fully renovated ensuite bathroom was lovely. The kitchenette had a large fridge/freezer, microwave, sink, toaster and kettle, all crockery etc. We also had a large screen TV, two person lounge, dining table and 2 chairs. As well we could sit outside under cover on the two chairs and small table that were provided. There was also a small fan heater and a ceiling fan over the bed - both of which we did not need as the weather in late May was very mild and comfortable. The front apartments are ideal in winter as the sun heats them during the day. Our hosts and owners Sarah and Tony are wonderful people who try their very best to keep their guests happy. Tony also brews the best beer in Norfolk Island (XPA Yum) in the VERY impressive on site brewery. Although the restaurant is only currently open for Friday Pizza,Functions and continental breakfast there are lots of places to eat nearby - our favourite (other than the great pizza nights at Castaway) would have been the RSL which is right across the road although all you city slickers need to be patient as they work on Norfolk time which is a fair bit slower than what you would be used to (just allow extra time and order a couple of extra drinks as you are on holidays!)Thanks to Sarah and Tony for a wonderful stay - we would not hesitate to stay here again and can easily see why this accomodation is the maximum 5 stars on Trip Advisor…
We stayed in a motel style, (garden view?) room at the rear of the property. It was spacious and had a small balcony to sit outside. Our room, #20, had a lovely outlook. It had tea and coffee makings and a fridge. Refills of anything were readily available and a shared kitchen nearby had cutlery, crockery and cooking facilities available. There was no noise from the functions being held at the time. Perhaps we would have liked some drawers or shelves for a seven day stay such as ours. Apart from the Friday night pizza there did not seem to be meals available at night but this may have been due to their hosting a golf tournament. There are a couple of clubs in easy walking distance including one at the end of the driveway which had free wifi!! I would happily recommend staying there. It was comfortable, close to town and the owners friendly and helpful.…
