Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

First impression was a few loose pieces of slate at the front entrance, we were part of a group of seniors so everyone was made aware. The staff were friendly and helpful the room was quiet, and we could sit outside and watch the kingfishers dive for their tasty morsels. There was a number of OH& S issues that l didn't feel were taken seriously. although "waiting for the boat to come with supplies" is a very common catch cry l thought more could have been done in the meantime to make the surrounds feel safer for us to get around

We had a wonderful quiet room with great facilities, fantastic staff. Great food and well presented. Any minor issues were fixed immediately sorted i.e. light bulb not working fixed straight away. Room cleaned better that at the International Motel we stayed at in Sydney prior and at the end of our holiday!

A really great place to stay very close to the shopping centre of the island. The service from staff was fantastic. The room was large and very comfortable with beautiful views over the island. The room was clean, relatively new and very spacious. There is a free washing machine (1) to use if needed and shared clothes lines. The internet is good for the island and reliable. The bar at the hotel includes a local brewery with $5 pints on Wednesday afternoon for a few hours. Very popular spot. Will stay here again.

Castaway is an excellent property for all travellers, my previous 2 stays were as a single and this was with three groups. Plenty of room to socialise together or in the bar with its open fire and many boutique beers to sample. Happy to go back.

Norfolk Island is a special and different place. The Castaway Hotel just fit so well with the feel and friendliness of the island. Our accommodation was spacious and the staff plus the well organised welcome and package was a nice touch. My wife and I spent a week playing golf and enjoying everything that NI had to offer. At the end of everyday we were able to return to the hotel for food, drinks, friendly staff and to cosy comfort, surroundings and scenery. Most days we walked to Burnt Pine to shop, drink or dine. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel and the Norfolk experience.

Castaway is in a great spot with most of the rooms having views and it is within an easy walk of cafes and shops in Burnt Pine. The restaurant/ bar, particularly the spacious deck, is great for watching the sunset over the hills while having a drink. The Friday pizza night and Sunday roast lunch are worth booking for. My room was one of the spacious self contained apartments and was very clean, comfortable and convenient. The outdoor furniture had an outlook towards Phillip Island. The staff were really friendly and accommodating.
