The Richmond Barracks is centrally located in a quiet, peaceful pocket of the beautiful Georgian town of Richmond. An easy walk to the famous Richmond Bridge and Richmond's main street, filled with excellent dining options, antique stores and Tasmanian craft shops. Relax and enjoy the spacious sun filled gardens that surround the beautiful cottages on our property. The Colonial officers who originally lived at the Barracks certainly did not enjoy the superb comforts you'll find here today. Built in 1830, using local convict bricks, this charming National Trust Registered property is a restful haven for the discerning traveller. Choose between any of these three purpose built accommodations: Lady Esther Cottage: two storey, self contained family accommodation, sleeps four comfortably. The Retreat: bedroom, lounge, kitchenette, bathroom, sleeps two/three comfortably. The Cellar: studio with kitchenette and bathroom sleeps two only. You'll be comfortable and warm with electric blankets and heaters in all bathrooms, and efficient reverse cycle air conditioning/heating in all cottages. Free WiFi is provided throughout the property. A hearty, continental breakfast is available at an additional charge. Off street parking is provided.

Spent 4 nights at the barracks had a wonderful stay . Simone the owner greeted us on arrival ,then checked up 2 days later to see if we required anything it's these little things that makes stayovers pleasant.
Stayed in the retreat and is certainly is named very well.
So warm and cosy , comfortable beds ,slept like rocks every night extremely quiet.
The accommodation was very clean and everything was provided in the kitchenette which is so handy and very thoughtful .
The barracks is within walking distance to all the attractions in Richmond.
Thankyou Simone for such a relaxing breakaway it's a credit to you .

Stayed here for two nights in the Retreat. Very comfortable. Large well equipped bathroom with shampoo, soap and conditioner. Bedroom was large with great mattress and plenty of blankets and doona. The kitchen had everything you need with a couple of couches and table and chairs. Good TV, games, books and DVD player with movies. Great stay. Warning that nothing is open Sunday night and the IGA closes at 5pm. Thanks Simone

The retreat, self contained one bedroom, comfort and delight. Simone has added a "hey Google' machine which was very helpful for weather info and great sound for all the favourite songs. An easy stroll to the town, restaurants and shops. Always a most welcome stay! Clean as a pin! Everything you ever need is there. Lots of games, books, dvd , maps and info.

We were 2 couples staying for two nights in a well equipped, clean two bedroom unit.
Pleasantly surprised that there was two toilets which was great, especially at night.
Simone the host was lovely and the garden was lovely.
Richmond is a lovely place to stop for a night or two.

Simone was a helpful and kind host. The cottage was immaculately cleaned with everything we needed. Lovely extra touches such as duck food for the kids. Excellent location, easy flat walk to main street. My family of 4 had a wonderful 2 night stay and would highly recommend the Barracks at Richmond.

I would have given this establishment 5 stars, but the way we were spoken to after an accident, that we had no opposition to paying for, left a sour taste in our mouths. Yes it was a great disappointment to the proprietor, but we didn't appreciate the tone. On reflection of our conversation, she may have thought we hadn't responded to a message that we definitely didn't receive, but still......
On the positive side, the cottage was clean and comfortable. (The Retreat) The price was reasonable. The situation good. We would happily have returned, but I don't think we will now. We might not be welcome anyway.

A wonderful place to stay. It was an easy walk into town and the suggested historic walk was lovely. The Cellar was comfortable, clean and had everything needed for our stay. Great value for money. I would highly recommend this property.

We were so pleased to find Richmond Barracks, only a five minute walk to the heart of Richmond, 25 minute drive to Hobart and in a peaceful location. "The Retreat" was a well appointed unit for a couple to stay in, including a bedroom with a single bed and a queen size bed, a spotlessly clean, modern bathroom with a fabulous shower and a cosy living room and kitchenette containing everything you could possibly need to feel relaxed and at home.
Simone, the owner is a warm and friendly woman who makes you feel immediately at home and Bruno, the dog is himself warm and welcoming, enjoys a pat and is soft and silky...and does not smell.
Simone provides a substantial breakfast of cereal, fruit, yoghurt, raisin bread and croissants, tea and coffee...all delivered the night before! No knocks on the door in the morning!
Originally planning to stay one or two nights we ended up staying for 6, such was our comfort and the convenience, we were sad to leave!
We will be back.

Thank-you Brenda and Geoff for your wonderful review of the Richmond Barracks. To have guests intend to stay a night and then decide to use the Richmond Barracks (for their entire holiday) as a base for exploring this beautiful pocket of southern Tasmania is fantastic. The location does have so much to offer!! I am so pleased that you felt very much 'at home' during your stay, that is exactly the type of experience that we are hoping to provide our guests. We really enjoyed meeting you both and look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Warm regards, Simone

We stayed in the Lady Esther and it was roomy enough for four and well set up to stay in. The owner was great, checking in and bringing breakfast the night before (well worth adding to your stay) without being intrusive. Clean, comfortable and so close to town. Quite private. Well worth staying. We would certainly stay again.
