The Estalagem de Monsaraz is ideally located just outside the fortified walls of the town. The historic area is a five-minute walk. We reached our room by entering the inn, exiting past the living room onto a terraced courtyard built into the hillside, then re-entering a different wing. Orange trees lined the courtyard. The view from our window was spectacular--we...

Spent one night at this quaint inn set outside the walled town. Nice room and views. Good breakfast. One thing to clarify- the restaurant and inn are not under the same roof. Same owner but different managers. They are across the square.

Comfy homely and nicely decorated hotel, just outside the main city walls. Easily accessible, well-signposted and with parking. The rooms are good, comforatble and some have lovely views over the plains below. If arriving after 11:30 midnight make arrangements. The hotel is composed of various well-maintained properties spread over several terraces which include a garden and swimming pool (closed in...

Traditional and quaint, complete with doors that require ducking and a hard bed. The bonus for us was a lovely swimming pool as it was pushing 40 the days we were in Monsaraz. A real must see village.

The location of this hotel is simply stunning. The terrace and pool overlook some amazing vistas. The building itself is old and has some very interesting quirks to the rooms and the overall layout. But that is not to say that it isn't charming. The breakfast is extensive and has something for everyone.

It is a nice place to stay. Unfortunately we stayed in the second part of the main house. The room was quite nice but both individual beds had irregular sizes (one was bigger than the other and the worse part of it were the mattresses. They were pretty old, with bedsprings. The WC was nice but the bathtub had a...

Located in Monsaraz, a beautiful little village on top of a hill, this is a great place. It's very characteristics and it has a beautiful garden, with a small but effective pool, and an unbeatable view. Breakfast is great (but improve the coffee please!). Rooms are simple (you could easily replace the small old tv sets with new ones, and...

This very charming hotel sort of cascades down the hillside, with gravelled terraces, a pool, and wonderful views. It is old, and the rooms are small with sloping floors and poorly functioning windows (the AC worked), but it is spotlessly clean and the furnishings period or local. The 'parlour rooms' are full of character because of the stone and low...

The Estalagem is a characterful inn (rather than a hotel). It is somewhat rabbit warren-like in appearance but certainly pleasant enough place for an overnight stay. It has a comfortable lounge, or rather a seating area with a log fire and comfortable sofas, useful for sending a few messages off on the free wi-fi after a good dinner in the...

The inn is located outside the town walls with ample parking in the square in front. The room was comfortable even if the bathroom was a tad cramped. The public rooms are charmingly furnished with a cosy open fire in the sitting room. Breakfast was the normal continental style with a nice touch of locally produced cheeses and hams and...
