We were at the hotel for only one night, so did not get to explore it fully. Our suite was very spacious and comfortable. The swimming pool overlooks the countryside. The only negative - outside of their control, was that we were nearly the only guests, so it felt a little deserted. Despite that, we had a lovely breakfast with plenty of choices. It's outside of the town of Monsarz, so it has more of a resort feel.
We stayed w/ a party of 2 adults and 2 children in another hotel nearby (Barrocal). During one of our hiking trips through the parks of that hotel we got lost and off track. It turned out we were about 12km away from our hotel with only a little bit of water left over at noon that day w/ temperatures around 38°! While walking back over the main roads around Monsarraz to our hotel, we crossed a sign indicating the Horta da Moura hotel. Upon arriving we must have seen all very thirsty and desperate because the staff of da Moura was so kind to get us water and coke and put as aside their swimming pool to relax a bit. From our impression, this is another small luxury boutique hotel that is privately owned, ideally located around Monsarraz and with a very nice swimming pool. But the best had yet to come: the general manager gave us a private tour in their garden - where some of the eldest (> 2000 years old) olive trees of Portugal are growing. In the end she offered us a ride back to our hotel! All to say this is just a very friendly and nice hotel to stay.…
A lovely farm conversion, with mostly single story accommodation. Our suite felt like a cottage, with its own front door and verandah. Beautiful views over the countryside were everywhere, especially from the pool area. The staff were very helpful and friendly, telling us about lots of things to do locally. Monsaraz itself is a short drive up the hill. Its a unique village with its own special atmosphere. There are great restaurants here and we were lucky enough to be there during an arts festival.
I booked a suite in this hotel as a special birthday treat for my husband. People were so kind to is, from the young women in reception, who gave us a lovely welcome and showed us to our room to the young man in the bar, who told is about the ancient olive tress, one 2400 years old in the garden(horta) below the hotel. A few minutes after we settled into our room, a knock on the door brought some cake and fruit as a welcome for my husband and in the evening, as we didn’t want to take our car into Monsaraz to the restaurant, a member of staff very kindly offered us a lift, which is going over and beyond the call of duty, but we were bery grateful. The rooms were spacious and although perhaps a little dated, very comfortable and clean. The gardens were a delight, as was the bar and the pool area. The whole place wasl alive with birds singing and at night, the stars were amazing. with the smell of orange blossom filling the air. The breakfast was good, although I could have done with some expresso coffee, although there aas a machine for this in our room. Thankyou for a lovely stay! We will ne back again next year, hopefully. If you go, do wander down the path below the hotel and see the nora, or well and ancient olive trees.…
Brief one night stay in April 2018. We really enjoyed walking the property and being drown in lemon and citrus scent perfuming the air. Our room was large, bathroom large and had nice robes. The bed was fine, nothing to write home about. The architecture and furnishings of the common rooms was really loverly. And the service so friendly, we had to leave early in the morning before breakfast to they made us a Togo bag and security had it ready at 6 a.m. We’ll be back someday.
