My son and I stayed in a two bedroom unit. This hotel is one of only two that I know of in Columbia that has two bedroom units (the other is Staybridge Suites). The hotel seems to be in reasonable shape, perhaps because it is somewhat recent construction. The hotel was a little hard to find. There was a sign on Clark Lane for the Fairfield Inn and Suites, but not this hotel. The hotel is not visible from Clark Lane. I was impressed that the kitchen area had a range that included an oven (which I rarely see in hotel rooms that have a kitchen area), but there was no oven cookware available in the room. The breakfast was better than nothing, but not all that great. The only hot food choices other than oatmeal were microwave options, and none of the available options were vegetarian-friendly. This place either needs to provide some real hot food breakfast options (preferred) that include vegetarian-friendly choices such as cheese omelettes, or else at least make sure their microwave choices include meat-free items. There was no place in the room or elsewhere to recycle cans/bottles/paper/plastic (I asked at the front desk), so I hauled out our recycling items.

Hello Leeskibike, We are excited to hear that you and your son enjoyed our two-bedroom suite and were able to make use of our fully equipped kitchens. We have a full-size fridge, freezer, microwave, stove top/ oven, dishwasher, disposal, toaster, and we even provide the pots pans plates and utensils. (Usually hidden in the bottom cabinets). We however will look into seeing if there is anything else we are able to provide in our breakfast options while still sticking to Marriott Breakfast Standards. Understandably breakfast is the most important part of the day, and we want to ensure guests start it out right. Please let us know the next time you are in town, we would love to host you again soon!

My stay was fantastic, but the hotel is definitely starting to show its age, but it’s still a great place to stay. Completely ignoring the room, let me go over the rest of the property. The curb appeal is great and it is easy to get to, in a good area, and has plenty of parking. Several restaurants, some stores, and a couple of other things are in walking distance, and nothing is too long of a drive away. The lobby, outdoor courtyard, indoor pool, and other lobby amenities were all nice and in good shape. The breakfast was free and mediocre, but at least they had a hot breakfast. The hallways were a little worn and in some places, dark. As for the rooms, we first received a one bedroom suite, which was very nice. A kitchen and living room were on one side of the wall, with the bed and bath rooms on the other side. As for security, all of the outside doors require a key card, and the rooms have a deadbolt, latch lock, peephole, and fire map, so no issues here. Unfortunately, our room, which was 116, had a couple of wear and tear issues despite being perfectly clean. Nothing was major, at least at first, until I noticed one of the windows just flat out wouldn’t shut and lock into place. This caused a couple of issues including animals getting in and the amount of cold air coming in. Also, being on the first floor, it was a security concern. Now is a good time to discuss the employees. Every single employee I talked to could not have been nicer, and Serena specifically was awesome. She handled our issues extremely well and gave us a new room, 211, which was a 2 bedroom suite. This room had a living room/kitchen/entry area in one part, and then a bedroom and bathroom behind one door, and another bedroom and bathroom behind another door. Again, some parts were a bit dated but it was a great room overall. Overall, despite the age, this was an amazing place to stay and I have no issues recommending it to someone and also coming back, excellent job guys!

For a 1 night stay, this property did its job. Unfortunately, our room directly faced I-70 and the noise was slightly excessive. The party down the hall didn't help either. We were staying on free night certificate, so I guess beggars can't be choosers. The continental breakfast was quite disappointing.
What I do want to recognize is the staff. They were top notch and excellent. Because of staff, we will likely stay here again.
If you stay here, request a room that does not directly face the highway and I'm sure your experience will be much better!

Hello adventuretravelernc, Thank you so much for your wonderful comments about our staff, they will be so happy to hear of them! While we understand we cannot control many factors in this industry; staffing levels, supply issues, noise, and other guests... the one thing we can control is our customer service and how we approach every guest request. Our goal is to be the friendliest hotel in Columbia and we feel we are closer to achieving that goal every day. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

We stayed here for 2 nights in August 2020 during my daughter's college move-in. We chose this hotel because we've stayed here before and had good experiences in the past.
Unfortunately, this time was not as good our previous ones. I will say that the staff were all very helpful and tried very hard to make our stay a pleasant one, but a combination of lack of maintenance and lack of attention to cleanliness made this a less than positive experience.
First off, the hotel seems woefully understaffed. We only saw one person running the front desk during the various times we were there, and they have completely stopped serving breakfast. The front desk area was relatively clean and all staff were wearing masks.
Upon arrival, we were checked in quickly by a very nice desk clerk, and we proceeded to our room. Upon entering the room, we immediately noticed a "musty" smell somewhat reminiscent of mold or possibly old cigarette smoke.
We then discovered an unemptied trash bag in the kitchen which had used personal items in it, which immediately grossed us out. And the coffee maker had dried coffee and coffee grounds still in it, and the warmer looked really nasty. The room also did not have a hairdryer, and the iron was broken, which was replaced later on during the stay.
And unlike other competitive hotel chains (see my other reviews), Marriott did not have any posted cleanliness policy, nor any details on how the rooms are being cleaned and disinfected.
As a result of the above, we spent about 30 minutes cleaning the room with wipes and sprays, and even then we felt uncomfortable during the rest of the stay. They also did not provide wrapped disposable cups for use so we had to wash the glasses in order to ensure they were clean.
The room itself was reasonably spacious and had a full kitchen, which was nice, even though we were afraid to use the dishes without washing them first.
In other areas, this hotel seems to have slipped as well. The lawn was really, really long and the provided pet relief area in the rear of the hotel was completely unlit.
One nice feature of the room is that the TV allows you to sign in using your streaming service account (eg Netflix) and watch programming. Your ID is automatically cleared after you check out.
The room we had was also located on the I-70 side of the hotel, which was very loud due to all of the cars and trucks going by. In the past we have been given rooms on the other side of the hotel, which were much better. There were also some strange people hanging out in the hotel parking lot pretty much every time we arrived and left. It did not make us feel very comfortable leaving our car near our room.
In summary, I was very disappointed in our experience with the Residence Inn Columbia this time around, and we will most certainly not be staying there again. If your travel plans call for a visit to Columbia, I would highly recommend you look elsewhere for lodging.

I've been a Gold Elite member of Marriot for a long time, and I've never stayed at a Marriot hotel more ratted out than this one. I've had to stay at a Motel 6 and a Super 8 in the past, and this is even below those hotels. We have a pet, but this pet room should not smell like cat. It should have been cleaned before we got here, and an ozone machine should have been used. We left the bathroom exhaust fan on to help with the smell. The kitchen cabinets are worn and old, and the rest of the interior of the building is pretty ratted out as well. I'd expect that this building will either be renovated or torn down soon. The walls are thin. Ceiling tiles are missing in the hallway. The hotel is right on I-70 West, so if you are a light sleeper, ask for a room far away from the highway. To add to the disappointment, I reserved a room with a King size bed, and though the room is listed as a King, it's a Queen in a handicap/assessible room. The clerk at the front was very nice, and said that due to the need to fit a wheelchair, they had to put a Queen sized bed instead. He said that the web site should not list it as a King. I've attached a few photos of the hotel. I could have taken several more, but you'll get the idea.

Dear T5166LNbills, I enjoyed our discussion this morning where you brought up your concerns to me about the upkeep of the building. As mentioned, we are slowly working on updates as we recently re-paved our parking lot, have new signage, and are currently working on renovating our pool area. Most of our projects are large so they are taking us some time to complete but we are excited for when they are. I am sorry to know that your concerns with housekeeping weren’t raised but I have addressed the comments you have made with our housekeeping department so we may take action immediately. Thank you again for speaking with me and please come visit us again soon to see the progress we make.

This isn't the greatest joint in Columbia I have a feeling. Checkin was fine, the desk attendant was pleasant and eager to help with any requests. That's where it ended however. My tv remote didn't work and I brought it down for new batteries. They did not have any. When they did they dropped the remote off at the wrong room. Luckily one of my fellow business travelers was in the room and let me come get it. The fun then began later as the elevator would not open. Unluckily I was on the top floor and had to take the stairs each day, including the last morning when I checked out with all of my luggage. What's funny is I requested a room that didn't face the highway, if I had kept my original room I don't think I would've had the elevator problem as it only pertained to the folks on the top floor. Breakfast was bland, ate two meals in the morning elsewhere. Talking with one of the locals he indicated that this hotel was not located in a great area of town. Would not stay here on my own dime.

Walked into room overwhelmed with smell of cigarette smoke. Management could not move us due to occupancy and was conveniently unavailable /unwilling to come to room and/or make amends for the smell and overall poor condition of the room. Manager (Sabrina?) initially told me (on phone as she was not on site), they would make amends/ adjust rate for the horrible condition of the room. Went to front desk more then once next day but she was unavailable. Left my phone #, but was not contacted. Sent follow up email after we got home and no response. As Bonvoy Titanium, I would expect at least the smallest of courtesy. Numerous maintenance issues in room (broken vanities/ Moldy/ rotted coffee maker. This property should be rebranded as Motel 6 or rent by the hour as that is the type of property they are presenting to their supposed respected and loyal Bonvoy members

I just want to say what a GREAT experience I've had in booking a reservation with Paul at the Residence Inn, Columbia. (Note: I called the local phone number for the hotel rather than contacting central reservations.) I was making the reservation for a group of three, and over the course of the week I had three different conversations with Paul as I gathered information and verified details. He was very friendly, knowledgeable, and incredibly patient, happily providing all the data I needed to make the best decision regarding our room and the timeframe.
We haven't stayed at the Residence Inn yet, but if Paul is any indication of the quality of service and value, we will definitely have a MARVELOUS time during our stay! Thank you so much!

I rarely provide comments, but this time it is warranted. The Residence Inn Columbia is a sub par Marriott property at best. It most certainly is not up to current Marriott standards and should be closed until it is completely renovated. Upon arrival we found a worn out facility, deteriorating dangerous sidewalks, dirty hallways, a noisy rundown room, and other unmentionables strewn about the parking area. After a few hours of trying to get some sleep, we could not leave fast enough.
Stay away.

I could have forgiven this place for being close to the freeway. It seems like it may be a relatively new property. I don't accept Covid as an excuse for just gross dirtiness. Also there was an apparent homeless person living directly outside the side entrance in his car, and he had it jacked up and was working on it. When we asked the front desk person about it, she said, "oh no, he is a guest." The next morning when we left at 5:30, he was there sleeping in his car with it running. The outside of the hotel and parking lot are strewn with litter. The garbage cans are overflowing. The carpet is filthy. I couldn't use the coffee pot in my room it was so dirty and gross. The dishes in the cabinet were dirty. There was blood on the draperies. Should I continue? Drive right past.
