It seems close enough to the city, but it was not easy getting a taxi to or from the motel (NOT the motel's fault - just the 2 different cab companies we tried), and the Uber we got to The Rocks for breakfast cost over $50 and dropped us a 6-minute walk from our destination because of the way he wanted to go was closed. The train station is a short walk up the hill, and a much better option for getting around it would seem.
There's not much else around apart from an amazing European grocer.
The staff were friendly and basic breakfast packs (cereal, juice, fruit cup), tea and coffee are provided.
The rooms themselves were dated but clean and tidy. However, the beds were not very comfortable and the light in the room was more of a distraction than the road noise (surprisingly).
In short, the room did the job (a bed, shower, and somewhere to get changed), but it is not a destination I'm in a hurry to return to.
The rooms appear to be relatively recently renovated with good quality gixtures & fittings, only to fall down on the poor quality of installation. For example the towel rack in the bathroom is or goid to superior quality, but the installer either forgot or didn't bother to installvthe locking screws to keep the rack secured yo the wall. Secondly the power points next to the bed do not appear to be secured to the wall at all which actually is a safety hazard.
The bed is of a high quality as is the linens etc.
A continental breakfast is provided which consists of a sachet of cereal (which in my opinion is too small) & 2 slices of a high quality bread, together with packets of butter & various jams/ marmalade. The problem is that the jams/marmalade are not of a matching quality, to the extent that they even appear watered down & overly processed.
This is all contradicted by the fact that the staff are absolutely top notch! Very friendly, polite & respectful even though most of the housekeeping staff don't speak english. They will go out of their way to try to oblige your needs.
Overall qite a decent "budget" to mid price motel that I would recommend to people with the aforementioned qualifications

Very well placed.
The staff are very pleasant and helpful. Everything you need for breakfast is placed in the refrigerator every day.
Laundry available.
The only negative is that the free WiFi does not work everywhere in the motel.

Now room to move it to a solid 3 maybe better.
Get a rid of the crappy white tile in the bathroom. Replace the cheap sink. If theese things are done this will he a solid 3 or better.
The wi fi is kick ass
There is 4 star hotel a couple of blocks down but it will cost you around 150 a night
Location only 400 metres from Edgecliff train station and about the same to Rushcutters Bay Yacht Club.
You should only expect to get what you pay for and this place delivers that.
Request a room to the back if possible away from the road.
A bit far from central Sydney and everything.
Barely friendly welcome.
And the breakfasts are horrible, cornflakes, a cereal bar, fruit juice, all in a box and for coffee, sachets!!
I did not give, only, 1 star because in terms of cleanliness there are no complaints to be made.

Yes, the rooms are small and basic but this is NOT the Hilton. You should know that before staying here, there are photos on their website of the rooms.
The staff very very friendly and quick to fix things such as the broken hairdryer in my friends room.
The motel has internet for $3 an hour, room key drop off box for after hours departure.
The train station is only 5 minutes walk and bus stop into the city just across the road.
A few doors up is a cute little Italian place called Jerry's Place, the food and gelato is amazing and they do free deliveries over $20.
Aldi and Coles are just up the road too.
The bed was comfy, the water pressure in the shower great as is the air con. The tv is an LCD screen.
This place is cheap and cheerful and very convenient at just 3 kms outside the CBD.
I would definitely stay here again.
