What does one say about a place like Edgecliff Lodge Motel. It wasn't bad, but didn't have a great deal going for it. It was reasonably priced and had free parking, but the carpark is tight and very awkward. The carpet on the poles and the dings in the wall are testament to that.
It seems close enough to the city, but it was not easy getting a taxi to or from the motel (NOT the motel's fault - just the 2 different cab companies we tried), and the Uber we got to The Rocks for breakfast cost over $50 and dropped us a 6-minute walk from our destination because of the way he wanted to go was closed. The train station is a short walk up the hill, and a much better option for getting around it would seem.
There's not much else around apart from an amazing European grocer.
The staff were friendly and basic breakfast packs (cereal, juice, fruit cup), tea and coffee are provided.
The rooms themselves were dated but clean and tidy. However, the beds were not very comfortable and the light in the room was more of a distraction than the road noise (surprisingly).
In short, the room did the job (a bed, shower, and somewhere to get changed), but it is not a destination I'm in a hurry to return to.

This motel could almost qualify as a study of contradictions.
The rooms appear to be relatively recently renovated with good quality gixtures & fittings, only to fall down on the poor quality of installation. For example the towel rack in the bathroom is or goid to superior quality, but the installer either forgot or didn't bother to installvthe locking screws to keep the rack secured yo the wall. Secondly the power points next to the bed do not appear to be secured to the wall at all which actually is a safety hazard.
The bed is of a high quality as is the linens etc.
A continental breakfast is provided which consists of a sachet of cereal (which in my opinion is too small) & 2 slices of a high quality bread, together with packets of butter & various jams/ marmalade. The problem is that the jams/marmalade are not of a matching quality, to the extent that they even appear watered down & overly processed.
This is all contradicted by the fact that the staff are absolutely top notch! Very friendly, polite & respectful even though most of the housekeeping staff don't speak english. They will go out of their way to try to oblige your needs.
Overall qite a decent "budget" to mid price motel that I would recommend to people with the aforementioned qualifications

I wish that Trip Advisor would have a "Good" rating between "Average" and "Very Good" as this place perfectly fits that criteria. Sure, the building is dated and faded as a 70s style motel is in 2022 (although I must say it is clean in my experience). On the good side there is lots of parking (very handy for travellers coming to the edges of the Sydney CBD and into the Eastern Suburbs) and a free continental breakfast you make yourself in your room (my room was equipped with a toaster, the usual jug and tea and coffee, as well as a microwave. Furthermore, the motel is in a very handy location close to Edgecliff shops and the train station, so getting into town is a breeze (in a couple of stops you will be in Martin Place). It has an interesting history, so I am told by a long term Eastern Suburbs denizen. Lots of busy traffic out front so watch out for noise and see if you can get something away from the front. To complete this mixed bag, it has very reasonable rates given where it is located.

Excellent value.
Very well placed.
The staff are very pleasant and helpful. Everything you need for breakfast is placed in the refrigerator every day.
Laundry available.
The only negative is that the free WiFi does not work everywhere in the motel.

20-25 minutes on bus/train to townhall.. 15 minutes walk or a 10 minutes bus ride to kings cross.. bus stop at 100 meters, train station and coles 600-700 meters.. free wifi, breakfast , kichenette, private bathroom and iron services included .. a great value for money.. and a very helping reception staff who always helped out during our two stays..

First of all this is one of the cheaper hotels in sydney to be fair
Now room to move it to a solid 3 maybe better.
Get a rid of the crappy white tile in the bathroom. Replace the cheap sink. If theese things are done this will he a solid 3 or better.
The wi fi is kick ass
There is 4 star hotel a couple of blocks down but it will cost you around 150 a night

It's inexpensive but delivers a a good experience. The rooms are dated but spotlessly clean. Entrance is average but satisfactory. Staff are friendly and helpful.
Location only 400 metres from Edgecliff train station and about the same to Rushcutters Bay Yacht Club.
You should only expect to get what you pay for and this place delivers that.
Request a room to the back if possible away from the road.

Needs a good upgrade as it looks very old.
A bit far from central Sydney and everything.
Barely friendly welcome.
And the breakfasts are horrible, cornflakes, a cereal bar, fruit juice, all in a box and for coffee, sachets!!
I did not give, only, 1 star because in terms of cleanliness there are no complaints to be made.

I stayed here over the New Year period. I was concerned about the noise from the traffic but I got to my room (first floor, closest to road) and could not hear the traffic. The only sound I could hear was from the other occupants in the hall.

Yes, the rooms are small and basic but this is NOT the Hilton. You should know that before staying here, there are photos on their website of the rooms.

The staff very very friendly and quick to fix things such as the broken hairdryer in my friends room.

The motel has internet for $3 an hour, room key drop off box for after hours departure.

The train station is only 5 minutes walk and bus stop into the city just across the road.

A few doors up is a cute little Italian place called Jerry's Place, the food and gelato is amazing and they do free deliveries over $20.

Aldi and Coles are just up the road too.

The bed was comfy, the water pressure in the shower great as is the air con. The tv is an LCD screen.

This place is cheap and cheerful and very convenient at just 3 kms outside the CBD.

I would definitely stay here again.

Walking in to a rude guy on front desk we went up to our room or shall i call it a box? the door was open as house cleaning must have just cleaned it i am guessing as they were on the floor doing other rooms.... Our room was far from clean As we entered we shut the door to find tissues on the floor followed by someones shoes none of ours dont know how long they have been sitting there either...went to sit at the table and their was blood on the table then sat on bottom bunk and copped a broken spring to the bum ... Very very noisy could hear every guest that was staying there atm.... Would never stay here again for what we paid i have stayed in alot nicer places in sydney (crowne plaza Darling harbour and swiss grand @ bondi) and paid less than i did here very very disappointed ..
