I am sad to report that this wonderful gem of a small hotel is now closed. The elderly owners have hung up the welcome sign, and have retired. I just returned from a trip to the North Shore, and after all the years I have stayed here, it was sad, and not the same, to drive by, and have to... More

Our group of 3 adults stayed here for the first time a few days ago. I was so very pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness of this motel. I say surprised because from the highway it looks like a smaller older motel, but it is meticulously kept up. The beds were comfy and clean, as was the bathroom. There is no... More

Hotel is a Mom and Pop atmosphere. The house is the office with a row of rooms next to it. There is a row of more rooms behind the first set with a drive between there and the house. Very secluded and quiet. The rooms are old style but very clean. a few good things are at door parking, Air... More

We stayed at the Flood Bay Motel on a super busy weekend in Duluth, so every hotel in the area was fully booked. Luckily, this motel had one room available when we called! The price was a steal, and the room was clean and well decorated. The owners stayed up late to let us check in when we got stuck... More

My husband and I have stayed at Flood Bay Motel twice; once in 2010 and again in 2013. It is a very clean place to stay, and convenient for us 'agate pickers'! Just the basics...comfortable bed with clean bedding, small bath with shower, cable TV, and quietness day or night. Lake Superior is just across the highway, so we can... More

We actually stayed in the Flood Bay Motel back in 2010 on a last minute waterfalls sight seeing trip during the 4th of July weekend - the 4th was a Monday, we made reservations Wednesday afternoon! It had what we needed, it was very clean, the price was right and it is RIGHT on Hwy 61so we could just head... More

Stayed 2 nights, September 23rd and 24th, 2013, will be staying here again. You won't find a motel room any cleaner than these, old or new. Tastefully decorated, very well maintained by the same owners for 36 YEARS!!!!!!! Very homey and welcoming. Wonderful view of the Lake. I'm 60 years old, and have traveled for work for 30 of those... Stayed here for two nights September 6th & 7th. Clean rooms, just the basics, but nice motel. Close to Two Harbors and Gooseberry Falls State Park about 10 miles down the road. Little park across the road. Would stay here again.

Quiet, clean, basic. A simple, older motel on the roadside. We found it perfectly clean. Basic rooms, limited channels on the small TV. Lake access across the highway. The nearest food/drink is at the resort just up and across the highway, (or by walk along the lakefront) otherwise it is a drive north to Betty's pies, or south into town.... More

We stayed here mainly for a quick sleep after exploring/hiking and off again in the morning. We got in late, took a quick walk across the road to the nice shore-lined way-side rest area. With the great view and quaint little deck and chairs by each door, I'd wished we had more time to enjoy these. It was exremely clean... More

“I think the rooms with 2 beds, which are located behind the single bed rooms, must be quieter because they are further from the highway.”

“We stayed on the south end in 2010...better view of Lake Superior. When we stayed in 2013, there were trees blocking our view of the lake, but the trees helped muffle any hiway noise.”
  • 2010, view from our room across Hwy 61-looking at Lake Superior! What a view!!!
