Clairview Caravan Park is under new management and has been rebranded as "BarraCrab Caravan Park Clairview". The reason behind the name of the Park is because Clairview is renowned for fishing and in particular for catching Barramundi and Crabs. The Park is undergoing general upgrades to both the facilities and the style of accommodation with new beach front cabins in the planning process.Clairview is one of a couple of places on the East Coast of Queensland where the highway almost touches the beach. So if you want a stop over on your way up or down the coast or if you want to come and catch some of the best fish in all of Queensland, call in and say hi to the friendly staff and stay a few days.

Clean amenities but could do with upgrade. No dump point and not on mains water, do have tape for drinking water. Laundry all good. There is a small on site store but limited. Not an issue As you can catch your own fish or eat at the on site bar. Meals very well priced good choice and all meals looked fantastic. Caravan sites well spaced out (little less room if you want a powered site on the sea front) Site well maintained. Number of cabins on site from outside all looked good. If you like fishing or just sitting by the sea watching the turtles this is the place to go. Located just of the highway with the railway line on other side noise was not an issue Staff outstanding and very friendly Highly recommend

This older style park right on the coast between Rockhampton and Mackay is a great spot to break up the journey and recharge the batteries. We stayed for 2 nights and were happy we did. Staff are great, friendly and helpful led by the ever smiling Dale. It has an on-site licensed beachside bar and restaurant with a good choice of meals including grilled fish and salad. The amenities are older style but clean. Location is right on the beach but of course no swimming in stinger season. Also, take some water casks as the water supply for the caravan is bore water although there is a fresh water tank available for drinking water. Do yourself a favour and stop in for a night or two you will be glad you did.

We stayed one night in an ensuited bungalow. The location was terrific, however, this type of accommodation is very small with very little room to move. It only had a the bed,a small fridge, a kettle and a small cupboard. It was very old, well used and ready for urgent repairs. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Great location, great service, great food, cold beer - what else could you want, even got an overnight/morning rain to cap it off.
Wish we could have stayed another couple of days to explore the area a little further.
One suggestion, provide some buckets/baskets to take when walking the beach to collect the occasional rubbish that gets dropped or washed in.

A wonderful spot for a break in a long trip or if you like fishing, beach, creek or in a boat, stay longer. Absolute beachfront is an accurate description. Arrive fairly early in the day to grab a front spot (lots) , though 2nd row is raised so still a great view. Lots of open space for kids to run and ride. Open air bar and restaurant has a Bali vibe (currently have to order dinner before 4pm, generous servings, well priced). Narrow sandy beach fronts a wide rocky platform, great for fossicking at low tide. Not good for swimming. Boat ramp and Kayaks etc only useable on higher tides. Excellent amenities, both standard and ensuite style.

The caravan park is basic, clean ammenities ,friendly and helpful staff. Reception had a mini supply of some essential items eg. Newspaper, bread, milk and other items. No wifi or TV reception….. they have an on-site “ restaurant” I suggest you bring your own food. We did not enjoy the (chefs special of fish cakes” generic, frozen and tasteless “ variety….

We stayed here on a recent trip to Townsville and back to NSW Central Coast, I had noticed the signs on the way up but like most travellers drove by, fortunately for us our temp neighbours in a park in Airlie Beach had stopped in there and raved about it, when they were there they met a bloke who had driven past it for 15 years and finally stopped in for a night, 5 nights later he was still there. This is one caravan park where the unpowered sites are the ones to go for, right on the shore front, literally, you'll have spectacular 180 deg + views and feel like you are miles form anywhere an dhave it all to yourself, and if it could get any better, theres an actual small pub on-site too that serves a variety of food, should you not feel like cooking during your stay, can it get any better. The facilities are average but up to the job, but its justs has such a great and unique character that it was my favourite stay on our 4 week 5300km trek, loved it and I reckon you will too, unless you're super fussy whinger type, Oh and its pet friendly too and you can have your own fireplace to keep you warm a syou watch the sunset, FANTASTIC !!!!!

Absolutely fell in love with the views. Booked a month in advance, never said to pay before arrival only to pay on arrival. We thought we were getting beach front view as we paid for that. We turned up and got told the bad news, they had put us towards the end near reception & right behind a play ground.. if you stay and get sucked in for paying the price of beach front, ask for 5 up and make sure you pay before someone else booked magically 2 hours before you and pays over the phone. Overall glad we didn’t stay at 5 and up cause smelt like sewer lol. We had booked for 2 nights & left after one night. It was so loud from trucks and trains tooting their horns all night. Not recommended with young babies as our 9 month old was waking each time too. Employees were also rude when asked to change. They had also want you to clean out your showers when done… that’s their job right?

Travelling north to Mackay on the Highway Clairview is the only bit of ocean you see on the journey. Some travellers in the Park said we could get fish and chips for lunch in the BarraCrab Caravan park. Lunch was available in the bar 12-2 and dinner 6-8. Our fish and chips was delicious and lovely sitting out the front watching the ocean while we ate. A top spot and the Caravan Park looked good too for future stays. A great way to break a long journey. I heard the fishing was pretty good too.

Hi Tracy, This park has clean amenities, it is an older park and the sites are very sandy, not our style and relatively expensive in comparison to other parks

Is there tours to see the Dugongs here? How is best to see them? We will come in mid May
Answer from arielle03

I'm not aware of any dugong tours. I'd advise calling the owners of the caravan park and asking them any questions you may have as the park seems be the only shop/eatery in clairview. You may be lucky and spot one from the beach. I've seen one from the beach north of cairns once.
