Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I have stayed at the Kahler Grand several times now in the past few years, but have been remiss in posting reviews. I just returned from another visit and the Kahler just keeps getting better and better. My rooms, of which there seems to be a variety of in even the same class, have each been exceptional. They are a good size and are well thought out in design. I had to change my reservation dates for both arrival and departure and the front desk crew seamlessly handled the changes with ease. The elevators: plentiful and quick-moving. You never have to wait long. The fitness center: plenty of space and equipment. Noise level in the hotel: very quiet inside and street noise is unnoticeable. Large windows in the rooms. Heating and cooling: have had no issues and the temperature is comfortable. May I add without giving "too much information" that a couple of my recent visits have been for procedures at the Mayo which required, in preparation, frequent visits to the bathroom facilities. The toilets handled it all like champs and you probably know how fussy hotel toilets can be. I wonder if, since the hotel is so very close to Mayo, more people stay there for more serious procedures. Perhaps they get a more concerning diagnosis and prognosis from the clinic and then take it out on the hotel with a negative review. Just a theory, but it is bewildering to me how opposite my experiences have been in contrast with some reviews. Don't get it. I stayed in some of the other highly rated properties in town. No more. It's now the Kahler all the way.

When I go to the Mayo clinic I always stay at the Kahler Grand hotel. I love the location not only to the clinic, but restaurants and bars and shopping! It's historically charming, one of the first hotels at the Mayo Clinic.

Needs major improvement from staff & management. Reservation wrong after multiple confirmations. Pizza/pool party reservation not allowed but 2 other ppl had one the next day. Pool closed after someone pooped in it and sauna not allowed for no reason. Hot tub nasty and cold. Wrecked my swim suite. No breakfast.

Worked with a couple front desk people. One didn't seem to want to be there. The other was all smiles and willing to help. Bathroom wasn't clean. Lot of stuff on the bathroom floor. Door to the bathroom was VERY narrow. This hotel is close to the Mayo Clinic and I saw a number of wheelchairs in the hotel. Not a single one could come close to fitting through the bathroom doorway. Took a shower one night and as soon as I turned on the water, the drain stopper closed. I wish I had a screwdriver with me, as it was VERY hard to open the drain. First time took about ten seconds to get it open. Second time took about 30 seconds and I thought I had cut my hand. The bed was quite hard. Fortunately I brought my own pillow. First night, not much sleep. Second night, much better, but because I was so tired. There was one chair in the room, to use at the "desk". Wish there was one other one. Two people, one has to sit on the bed. TV was a good size. Didn't watch much, but it worked fine when we did. The one plus with the location is that it was right next to the Mayo Clinic, where I had to go for a number of appointments.

While it’s convenient to be close to the Mayo Clinic and hospital, we were disappointed with the Kahler. The rooms are dated and the bathroom was in need of deep cleaning. The towels, which we had to pick up from the lobby each day, were thread bare and should be replaced. While not the hotel’s fault, Mayo closes the subway level entrances from the hotel weekends and about 7:00 each evening. As a result, we needed to walk outside in the snow and cold. Again, not their fault, but we expected to access the hospital from indoors.

I was here for an extended stay for medical appointments and found it to be peaceful. The pool/sauna/jacuzzi were not heavily utilized so it was easy to use the facilities. We had a King room and it was tighter than I expected. The toilet/sink are in the same room and there is no fan. I prefer a sink outside of the toilet space so a guest can go to the bathroom/shower while another guest washes their face, brushes teeth, etc. But, with the age of the hotel, this like likely not an item that will change.

The front desk staff ignored me. Bathroom was not clean and restaurant service was very poor. Not worth the price we paid. Will not use them in the future...Called housekeeping for some extra wash clothes and it took 3 hours to receive them.

Plumbing, room, security and overall experience was well below average. The rooms have no safes, no bottled water upon arrival, the staff doesn’t provide room request like soap and coffee unless you make more than one request. It’s a hotel that was nice once upon a time, but now it’s well below average

Surgery and medical treatment required my wife and me to stay for an extended period of time in Rochester. Our decision to stay in the Towers at the Kahler Grand Hotel was worth the investment. The hospitality team went above and beyond in helping us with everything from laundry to special dietary considerations. The accessibility to the clinic and subway system made parking much easier. The food was excellent. The lounge area facilitated interaction with other guests and the opportunity to talk about medical questions. The room was clean and comfortable. Housekeeping was prompt and considerate. The Towers is very quiet.

Convenient location if visiting Mayo Clinic. Very clearly an old hotel that has been partially renovated. Bathroom in our room left a lot to be desired with old tub/shower. Shower curtain rod was rusty, tub scratched up & water turned cold intermittently without warning! Food in restaurant was surprisingly good. Access to the underground subway was convenient. Parking ramp didn’t feel particularly safe.
