Our room was $300 and certainly not worth that. The bed was old and creaky, the chairs were worn out and the bread spread was in need of updating or changing, the bathroom tile was chipped and coming apart, we did not feel comfortable taking a bath or shower, the room had an "odd" smell to it, the "screen" porch... We had purchased a groupon which we had no problems using during the week. We chose the Robert Frost room which had a king bed. The room was spacious with lots of windows for natural light. Many books and historical elements commemorating Robert Frost are found throughout the room. The Outing Lodge has quite an interesting history and the grounds... More

The area is beautiful, but the room was average and not worth the price. The bed, although old, creaked, and the step down into the jacuzzi tub/shower was so deep that I almost fell and had to use the towel bar to get back out. We had a lovely walk around the grounds and the breakfast was very nice, but... More

First of all, we were ignored when we arrived and then told they were busy and would be with us shortly. There was nowhere to sit and wait. We were eventually shown to a small clean room. The bathroom was comical. The sink wobbled and it took forever to get WARM water. Never did get hot and no pressure. The... More

We had a great time at the Outing Lodge. Wonderful hosts and delicious breakfast. The grounds and walking trails are so beautiful and serene. We were there for a planning retreat and had plenty of room to sit and work on our goals. The bed in Amelia was soft and cushy. We'll be back! Thanks, Marilyn

We enjoyed our stay very much, the service was friendly and welcoming. Room was huge, the tub and porch were a plus! The place needs work, but what 100+ year old place doesn't! Beautiful walking, biking, riding trails. I would suggest bringing you bikes along. Stillwater downtown with everything to do is only 5 miles away, but you'd never know... More

We celebrated an anniversary at the Outing Lodge on August 26, 2015. The owners were very friendly and interesting. Our room was clean and large. The king size bed was comfortable. Our breakfast was the very best. Homemade pastries were hot and delightful. It was a five start breakfast. The Outing Lodge offers a quiet, peaceful, getaway.

The place itself is fantastic. If you are looking for a way to sneak away from society for a couple of days this is it. Set back in the woods among trails for biking, walking and horseback riding (although they do not actually have horses there to use), it is truly a getaway to nature. The rooms are very nice,... The building is beautiful, the grounds are very pretty but a bit in disarray, and definitely full of bugs, even in August. Our Eva Peron Suite was very charming, and very large. We enjoyed the porch and the jet tub. Never slept better - soft bed, rain outside, peace and quiet. We did observe that the place is in need... More

We were expecting quite a bit more for the amount they charged for a room. The grounds in front were pretty, but overall, unkempt. The outside of the Inn needed lots of work, as did the room we stayed in. Updates are needed!! Breakfast was mediocre. Nothing too special. Overall, we were disappointed as it was shown on the Internet... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
19th Century History Preserved at the Outing Lodge European style 19th century country home, surrounded by lawns and gardens with 300 acres of wooded park land ~ a place where people would go to get away from modern city life. Pine Point was founded in 1858 as Minnesota's second "poor farm," a home for the chronically indigent or those temporarily down on their luck. Stillwater was a wealthy community in 1850, the territorial capital. In this abundant atmosphere, a desire to help the less fortunate culminated in the construction of this poor farm. The prize-winning dairy farm became both a home and a workplace to thousands of needy for almost 100 years. When the farm was closed in 1957, the land was planted in pine trees, now Pine Point Park. The house went on for 20 years as a Rest Home. In the 1980s, to save it from proposed demolition, Lee Gohlike began its renovation. He gutted its interiors with a reverence for its historic past: wide-planked wooden floors cut from old pine beams provide a perfect backdrop to the many elegant antique furnishings, numerous candelabra and massive fireplaces. Featured in Midwest Traveler, Star Tribune and other local & national publications, this beautiful Georgian home is a destination for exclusive retreats & events. Guests enjoy cross-country skiing, horseback and biking trails connecting to the Metro system. Theme dinner calendar of events. ... more   less
