This place is wonderful. Very unique hotel that has been restored & renovated. Cozy & charming. We booked a "cozy" room & it definitely was small & cozy with a teeny bathroom. Bathroom had a huge old bathtub taking up most of space but not a major issue. Desk staff was friendly & helpful. We received coupons for some shops...

Had a very nice stay - nice redone room with river view. Friendly staff. Lots to do in area. College campuses with parks. Nice town with river walk. State park nearby. Great restaurants and entertainment nearby.

The Archer House is an old inn with all the charm and quirks one expects from an old inn. Our cozy room was recently redone so we had a modern bathroom and comfortable bed. The location in the heart of Northfield is perfect with interesting shops nearby. The staff was most helpful. I left a cosmetics bag in our room...

The Archer House was a charming little hotel with a great location in Northfield. The building is very old but the rooms have a surprisingly modern feel.. we stayed in the suite on the top floor and really enjoyed it. This hotel is a nice option for a weekend in Northfield.

This place exudes charm. You can easily catch yourself thinking you've stepped back in time to the 1880s. The downtown location is definitely a plus. Amenities include room a/c, a delightful ceiling fan, free wi-fi, and a computer in the lobby. I stayed in a "cozy" room, which is just fine for one person. Service can be spotty. When I...

Although the small bathroom was neat and recently tiled, the rest of the hotel is in pretty poor shape. The bed and mattress had seen better days. Sidewalk and porch need to be rebuilt. However the real problem is lack of window blinds. There is a small blind but it only covers half the window. Very difficult to sleep with...

Loved this Hotel and all it's old charm. We stayed in RM 210S which is a Suite with a sofa bed, TV, mini refrigerator, & microwave in one room, and two Queen size beds with another TV in the main room. The Bathroom looked like it was recently redone, and lovely. The room overlooked the Cannon River~beautiful view. The hotel...

Historic The Archer House Hotel is on the main street of Northfield near both St. Olaf and Carlton Colleges. Parking is usually available in their parking lot behind the hotel or late overnight on the street in front of the hotel. Rooms vary in size and layout. There is a lift from the parking lot with luggage carts available. Desk...

OK, first the positives. The room was immaculate. You could have eaten off the bathroom floor. There was a room air conditioner. The staff of the hotel could not have been nicer or more helpful. The Tavern, located in the hotel, served incredibly reasonably-priced drinks and food. Great location in downtown, easy walking to Carleton College. OK, now the negatives....

This Country Inn is located in Downtown Northfield MN and is well over 100 years old so change your expectations a little when you visit. It reminded me of the Grand Hotel in the Christopher Reeves/Jane Seynour movie classic "Somewhere In Time"!!! Don't expect spacious Suites, modern soundproofing, room service and a full course breakfast. Instead you will receive a...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Archer House River Inn occupies more than a central location in Northfield. For generations of guests and locals, it IS Northfield - a geographical and architectural landmark, a host to history for nearly 140 years, and an exemplar of the town's spirit of hospitality. Built in the French Second Empire style, the four-story red brick building is grand in design, rich in character, and impressive in its amenities - which include two full-service restaurants, a coffee shop, riverside lounge, conference space and more. Yet with just 36 rooms, no two of which are identical, the inn is intimate in scale and unique in feel. The Archer House also boasts the city's best location, straddling the town's main thoroughfare and the Cannon River. Beyond its prominent setting and venerable history, something else makes the Archer House special: a spirit reflected by the staff's pride in upholding a 140-year legacy of caring for guests, and the ownership's loving stewardship of a property that embodies the heart and soul of Northfield. ... more   less
