Its a fun place visually, but my cozy room was not in good shape. The bed was saggy (hard for a spine surgery survivor), the crank out window mechanism self-destructed, leaving me having to remove the screen and climb partway out to close the window - because there was a super-loud band blaring from the rear in violation of the...

I am happy that I stayed here, as opposed to a more generic modern hotel. The Archer House is an historic building in a pleasant and interesting historic downtown. It is an easy walk to anywhere in town, from St. Olaf to Carleton. My room was a little careworn, which was OK given the age of the hotel, but it...

This is a lovely, albeit old hotel. It is quite charming! The rooms vary in size (and price) from cozy to suites. I would suggest calling there rather than using their web site to gain an understanding of the various rooms. The staff is quite accommodating. I did have a bit of an issue with the check-in, but they were...

We stayed at the Archer House for one night on our way from Iowa to a convention in Minneapolis. Our suite was so pleasant we almost wished we were just staying there the entire weekend. This was a Thursday night so it was very quiet. The beds are the kind you get swallowed up in, which is my favorite. We...

Amazing room & beds; little pricy but we splurged for the stay; staff was good; did not eat breakfast there because we spent our budget on the room & food cost extra. Family of 6 stayed & to find a placebigenough for all of us to stay in one room was great!

It's centrally located and there are a lot of good places to eat, parking can be a challenge sometimes, the rooms are comfortable if you book a non cozy room. The staff is fine, not overly friendly, they don't really offer any information but overall we would definitely stay there again.

This was our first trip to Archer House and we were very pleased. It's historic and old and yet has all the comforts of a nice hotel, but has an abundance of charm. We also really liked the fact that there are three very good restaurants attached to the Inn. And Archer House is located right down town so it's...

Room was great! It was small and not much privacy to the bathroom, but for one night that was fine. The restaurant was beautiful! The ceilings are low and it's very crowded when busy but it's great scenery and that food was fantastic! Definitely will be coming back!

A home away from home in a charming hotel. Each room is furnished in a different theme. The bathrooms are clean and modern. The staff is friendly and helpful. Restaurants on site. Not much in the way of fitness equipment though. But the hotel overlooks the river and there is a walking-running path.

We had a nice stay at this place. The room was cozy, clean, and did the job. The hotel was under a little much needed construction, couldn't tell if they were painting or paneling or what, but definitely torn apart for something. Took away from the experience a little, would have been nice to know ahead of time. We probably...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Archer House River Inn occupies more than a central location in Northfield. For generations of guests and locals, it IS Northfield - a geographical and architectural landmark, a host to history for nearly 140 years, and an exemplar of the town's spirit of hospitality. Built in the French Second Empire style, the four-story red brick building is grand in design, rich in character, and impressive in its amenities - which include two full-service restaurants, a coffee shop, riverside lounge, conference space and more. Yet with just 36 rooms, no two of which are identical, the inn is intimate in scale and unique in feel. The Archer House also boasts the city's best location, straddling the town's main thoroughfare and the Cannon River. Beyond its prominent setting and venerable history, something else makes the Archer House special: a spirit reflected by the staff's pride in upholding a 140-year legacy of caring for guests, and the ownership's loving stewardship of a property that embodies the heart and soul of Northfield. ... more   less
