Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed towards end of July so very cold. Stayed in Mallee Hen cottage. Unfortunately not allowed to use the combustion heater but cottage has reverse cycle which at this time of year is needed. Area has many signed walks and a signed drive. Enjoyed the NP (proposes) and the relaxation of the 3 day stay.

Stayed for one night. The caretaker was very friendly and introduced to some local animals as we missed the nocturnal tour. The cabin was adequate and we were able to have our own fire in winter. The cabins are set apart so you are not to close to others.

As long as you know before you go, that the cottages are very basic, and have no central heating, you’ll be fine. We came to see the numbats and we’re lucky enough, with the help of Les and Julie to have three good sightings.

The woods are lovely, and we really enjoyed meeting and photographing the local mob of kangaroos. We also saw black cockatoos, parrots, and went on the Barna Mia nighttime safari.

As we came from abroad, we took the linen package, which was brilliant. If you can, take extra blankets though. There’s firewood for sale for the fireplace in the cottage, so we were warmer on our second night.

Les and Julie couldn’t have been more kind and helpful, and we really appreciated that.

Basic cheap accommodation I don’t mind but this place was dirty. It relies on previous patrons cleaning the place and clearly they hadn’t. Dirty pots and plates in cupboard.
Spiders and webs in all the curtains.
Bring your own bedding but there is an expectation that the mattress covers should be clean not heavily stained.
Both oven and oven mits stained and dirty.
I think the whole place needs cleaning and properly. You need to lift your have if you expect people to come back.

We went for a school camp and stayed in the Currawong Complex. It was only a small group of us but it was such a nice stay and location. Very disconnected in a good way so we could appreciate each others' presence and the surroundings. The amenities were all so lovely and clean, toilets and showers were of a high standard. Unfortunately, we didn't spy any numbats and we were all quite devastated about this. Nonetheless, it was a memorable stay, we are very grateful and cannot recommend it enough. So if you get the chance trek down to Dryandra (only 30 minutes out from Narrogin) and meet the team!

What a fantastic place.
We stayed in Mallee Hen cottage with our kids.
The cottage was very clean and comfortable.
Plenty of room outside for the kids to ride bikes and make their own fun.
A short drive to the Barna Mia nocturnal enclosure/habitat which was loved by everyone.
A great variety of bush walks within a short drive of accommodation.

We stayed in Wandoo cottage for 3 nights and had a wonderfully peaceful break, one of our best on our WA trip. Lisa, the caretaker was lovely in settling us in and checking in on us when she saw us around. She also brought us a few fans for the house which were really needed on two mid 30 degree days. In February this place must cook!

The cottage was clean and very spacious for the two of us although it has 12 bunk beds. I dare say with 12 people kn there it would be very squeezy! The mattresses on the bunks are old foam singles, but we found them very comfortable and slept really well each night. Complete silence likely helped! It also cooled down to about 12 degrees overnight so with the windows ooen we slept well. BYO bedding though!

The kitchen was spotless too and had a cooktop and microwave plus crockery so it's easy to self cater. There's also a full sized fridge.

Wandoo may not have air conditioning but it us lucky in having a new inside toilet which I think is more of a must have! The bathroom is good and the shower pressure terrific.

Final word ln the cottages, during school holidays be wary of the two either side of the kids playground. You might regret getting one of them if you want quiet. We were really happy with the location of Wandoo.

And then there's the forest. This is just 30% of the total 7% of wandoo woodland remaining after complete destruction elsewhere for agriculture. It is precious and beautiful and I pray it survives future fire and climate events intact. We hiked all of the main trails over 3 days starting at 5:30am to beat the flies and found them all to be diverse in terms of trees (wandoos, powderbark wandoos and brown mallets), terrain and flowers. While the wildflower season is officially over in November, we found some petrophiles, grevillias, beaufortias and verticordias still blossoming in full colour.

And don't miss Barna Mia, the government protected wildlife shelter in the centre of the park where you can see bilbies, quenda, boodies, mala and more on a tour for $22 Mon, Wed and Fri. Bookings essential.

My kids and I have just returned from a 3-night stay at the Lions Dryandra Village, and would like to say that we highly recommend the experience! Accomodation is in refurbished 1920s cottages and we were very lucky to be allocated the only one with an inside toilet! ("Wattle") - not sure the kids could have handled an outside loo! The cottage was freshly painted and very clean. Beds comfortable (BYO bed linen or sleeping bags) and there's a lovely big verandah to sit on and watch the kangaroos at dusk. The caretakers John and Lisa were very helpful and friendly. We didn't get to spot the elusive wombat but a visit to the nearby Barna Mia animal sanctury almost made up for that - what a gem of a place!

The kids and I loved our time here in the forest and the cottages are excellent value for money. We hope to return next year, perhaps in September/October when the weather is cooler but dry (the flies this time of year make even the keenest bushwalker a little bothered!).

Room Tip: If you want the 'luxury' of an inside toilet, ask for the 'Wattle' cottage.

This not for profit accommodation offers well appointed, basic, very clean refurbished timber workers cottages for two, four or larger groups. It's isolated in beautiful natural forest, very cold in winter, hot in summer, a trip back in time in some ways but without most of the hardships. No reception for mobiles or GPS, just bush, lots of easy walks and the chance of seeing numbats in their natural habitat as well as roos, wallabies and many birds. It's the closest accommodation to the Barna Mia Conservation area where you can see the tiny nocturnal marsupials in their native habitat. Great for families and groups.

We stayed one night here in Magpie Cottage. Only 90$. Good queen bed, two bunks if you’re with kids. Well equipped kitchen and good bathroom with shower. Very clean. All crocks and pans provided. Fridge gas cooker. Great bird and animal life around. Well organised. You’ll need bedding (can rent) and all your food but water drinkable.

"If you have more than 3 person, bigger cottage should be selected. Small cottage is only good for 2 person. With babe still be fine. But small cottage I think there are only one in total."
