Under the new management, things are just as good as ever or maybe a little better. They have done a good job updating the front desk computer system (would be great if they eventually enable online booking rather than having to make a phone call) and though some of the activity equipment downstairs is a bit dated, it is a great place to go relax in a family-friendly environment and the staff did a really good job serving such a small number of guests when we were there in a very slow season. We were not charged a fee for just 1-night stay in February— thank you! The roast beef and mashed potatoes were awesome… as well as the bread pudding, and salad with poppy seed dressing, and the rest of the meal! Breakfast was ok, and banana splits were a good classic treat. We look forward to returning when our schedule allows us to be back in the area from our mission work.

Room Tip:Main lodge rooms are probably a bit more dated, but any place is good. Definitely nice staying in...

Beautiful environment, very peaceful and serene. Attended a marriage conference with Bridge To Life Ministries. It was great to connect with other couples and be encouraged. Couples return year over year to reconnect, this is the perfect location to disconnect with everyday life.

Such a lovely place! We were only able to book one night, as a group had reserved the entire place the next night. We were pleasantly surprised to find that there had been cancellations, so we (hubby and another couple) were able to stay the second night. I cannot begin to explain the cleanliness of this large complex. Not a speck of dust on anything! Dinner, breakfast, and a daily banana split in the evening! Great food and awesome service. Walking trails, museums with wonderful collections, shuffleboard, a lovely lake, paddle boats, canoes, exploring all the outbuildings, quiet and restful.......what more could one want? Marv (the 88 year old host) dips every dip of ice cream himself for the banana splits. And the young lady at the check-in was a delight; she suggested a couple of places to explore off the property. The only drawback of the entire stay was the small shower, but it was only for a couple of nights. Suites in the back buildings have larger baths and some have fireplaces. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Ok so first off the dinner...it's basically the same every night. The food looks questionable, it tastes ok but for the price...drive about 16 minutes out and get better food from McDonald's. We had pork on Saturday and my wife found a tiny bone in here. Tea and lemonade tasted weird Costed about $540 for 3 nights. Ran the hot tub first night, lol my wife thought I passed gas. In reality we found out the water had high amount of sulfur so it stunk up our room. As well as the coffee I made from faucet. Tv was tiny and there was so much clutter on property. Not worth the price for 3 days

WOW WOW WOW........This place is beautiful. The log cabin lodge is fantastic. So peaceful and relaxing.
Walk around the property and experience nature with the lake, gardens, and the trees.
With your room reservation, you get dinner. After dinner, around 8 p.m., the bell rings and everyone who wants one, gets a banana split. Then in the morning, you will have breakfast.
The room was nothing special with a very small bathroom and shower. We did overlook the lake which was fabulous.
The sad thing with all of this trip was.....when we checked in, no one was wearing a mask at the front desk or in line to check in except for the wife and myself. We did double check and saw that there was a posting on the front door as you entered to utilize social distancing and wear a mask. At dinner, no one in line was wearing a mask and the servers were wearing gloves but no masks. We were really taken aback about this considering this is mandated by the state.

A very nice place to get away from it all and to relax and have good food. Would highly recommend it to anyone that needs to get away and enjoy a nice peaceful night away from the busyness of life. They serve a great family style supper, a delicious banana sundae and a huge breakfast.

My husband and I had a wonderful weekend at the Shack! The facility was charming and the staff were friendly, kind and so helpful. We went in October hoping to see the beautiful colors of a Michigan fall and one of the staff members found a great Fall Color Tour for us online. It was just what we wanted. We will try to return to the Shack again!

Beautiful property with absolutely endless areas to sit and take in the beautiful flowers, grounds and lake. We were amazed at how many flowers there were…so pretty. There are nooks & crannies everywhere - game rooms stocked with puzzles and games, tables for gathering, a great trail to exercise, walk around and enjoy many gazebos…lit up very pretty at night.

Unless you're a white couple in your late 70s, this place is a nightmare. Clerk at the desk criticized my appearance, everybody there looked at us like we had two heads. It felt like we were visiting a museum of upset grandparents. The food was ranged from bland to inedible. We won this stay in a raffle, so we didn't feel too bad about leaving early.

My daughter and I really enjoyed our stay at The Shack. The staff was very friendly and we especially enjoyed the game room and kayaking. The banana splits at the end of the day are a nice touch. The Shack is on beautiful property. There was plenty to do, yet it was still a relaxing visit and we had a wonderful time together since there was no stress of planning meals or activities while we were there.
