Property even better than described, very peaceful surrounds with multiple native bird species and kangaroos seen within metres of our retreat over our 4-night stay.
No TV, wifi or cellular reception (including Telstra), which was perfect for unwinding on our trip.
Very useful information about nearby hikes and businesses provided by the hosts, this is wonderful accomodation and very good value for the price, highly recommended!

Thank you for your review Aussie Joe. Great to hear you enjoyed these special surroundings so much. More and more of our guests are recognizing the value of taking a break from the daily digital onslaught. A few days away from it won't stop the world from turning and helps us re-affirm all the things that are truly important such as the natural environment.

Fresh flowers on the long inviting table welcome you. Leave your troubles and wifi at the gate and really relax in this beautiful Australian property. The large country kitchen with views across the paddocks of flowers, birds and wildlife is well appointed and scrupulously clean. Two fires with baskets of chopped wood keep you cosy while talking with friends in the large leather chairs. The beds are new, fresh, comfy and warm. The spotless bathrooms have the largest fluffy towels. Jane and Barry leave nothing for you to do but have a wonderful holiday and make new memories.

Situated down a long gravel road in the Deep Creek Conservation park, they must have been stunning when first built, but are now showing signs of wear and tear. Some of the appliances and equipment would benefit from upgrading. In particular, the oven would reach no more than 100c, which was annoying. Had we been staying longer, we would have asked for it to be mended.

Even in February, it was very cold at night. The reverse cycle air con heated the main living area, or the very efficient wood burning stove could by lit using the wood supplied. This did take the chill off the bedrooms, but the bathroom remained very cold, due to the high level window which is left open for ventilation.

It was nice to have some basic supplies for breakfast, which means there is no need to go shopping before your first night there.

If you enjoy star gazing this is an excellent location, with no light pollution. There are also marked walking trails which can be easily accessed.

Despite some reservations we certainly enjoyed our stay.

Thank you for your review. We appreciate the 4 dot rating but take issue with suggestions of wear and tear. The Ridgetop Retreats are maintained to a high standard. In recent years all furniture has been replaced including new cupboards, kitchen cabinets, bedroom furniture, leather sofas, and just in the last month new coffee tables, and book cases. This is on top of our normal annual re-decoration schedule. A common remark made by guests is how modern and well-maintained they look. We note that you are a prolific reviewer with nearly 400 reviews to your name (albeit under a pseudonym). A recurring theme in these reviews is that despite a generally high rating there is always something not quite right (It was nice, but…). We would expect you to understand the importance of accurate and fair content when posting a review given the potential impact on a small business especially in these challenging times.

We stayed two nights in Ridgetop Retreat property No. 3. Beautiful location but accommodation was not as 'eco' as we expected. Wood heater had not been cleaned out from previous guests and suitable kindling was not provided on first night. The place was very smokey on arrival. The 'welcome' book warned us of regular power outages and directed us to a non-existent torch in the bathroom. Starting to look a bit tired - could do with an update; perhaps solar power and bins to separate recycling and green waste could be considered. We felt the kitchen and bathroom could do with an update to be competitive with other similarly priced/billed BnB venues. Was clean and the bed was very comfortable and linen good quality. Food provisions were good - great to see Fleurieu Milk Co. products.

Dear Lisa Marie Thank you for your review. With back to back bookings coals are often still red hot from the previous guest having just checked out making them hazardous to remove. Pinecones have proven to be great fire starters and we leave a pile of these for every guest. The Ridgetop Retreats have been used as a template for sustainable tourism development in South Australia & Victoria so we’re not sure how much stronger their ‘eco’ credentials can be! These include a solar passive design, solar hot water system, rainwater harvesting, cross flow ventilation, correct orientation to the sun, and aerobic waste treatment systems to name a few. This means that they require significantly less artificial heating and cooling and their environmental footprint is less than a conventional building. We also have signs next to the rubbish bins asking guests to separate waste for recycling. We’ll make sure that the torch is replaced and were pleased to hear you slept well and enjoyed the local provisions.

We stayed at the Deep Creek Homestead for a couple of days in April 2021. We (two couples) had a really wonderful time, and would recommend to any looking to get off the grid and enjoy all that the Fleurieu Peninsula has to offer. The homestead is very large and can comfortable house 6-8 people. The master bedroom in particular is very spacious with beautiful views, and the kitchen is well equiped and very functional. This was a good base to enjoy a hike, swim, or read a book. Two notes (not negatives, just good information to know in advance): 1) we had a 2WD so we needed to take the access road very slowly so to not scrape the bottom of the car, and 2) it is off the grid, with no mobile reception; we loved this but it is important to be organised (have maps and instructions downloaded beforehand). Thank you again for having us!

We've just had three nights in Ridgetop Retreat #1 & it was exactly what we needed. No tv, no wifi, no people....just a stunning nature infused environment. It truly refreshed the soul. The accommodation itself is very comfortable & I appreciated the little touches of thoughtfulness provided; a vase of bush flowers on the table, extra towels & a good variety of utensils in the kitchen. What I was REALLY impressed with was the fold out air dryer provided. I soooooooooooo wish more accommodation owners would include one of these as they are ideal for drying off towels & wet clothes. Although there is excellent heating for winter guests, the bathroom is freezing, so I would recommend taking an extra floor mat if your feet are susceptible to cold floors. Although there is information about the wonderful nearby walks available in the accommodation, I'd recommend doing a bit of research beforehand & print off info to take with you. I would happily stay here again & am very grateful for the time I've recently enjoyed there.

A beautiful place to stay. Stunning surroundings, gorgeous views, very peaceful.
Large windows gives a great view to sit back inside & just watch nature. Who needs a big screen TV when you have this.
Went for a girls trip, everyone had a great time - needed to unwind & recharge batteries. Breakfast provisions more than ample & lovely SA produce.
We used a food delivery service "Valley Eats" (as we did not want to cook) very highly recommended.
Would love to return in winter to take the opportunity to use the beautiful wood fire.

Nice stay in Glenburn cottage . My suggestion would be to bring extra bedding if staying in winter as your not allowed to bring heaters . We are are experienced in running a combustion heater yet only a minimum amount of wood was left for time of yr . Not enough to heat whole house. Light switch for outside toilet is on a timer and you get caught short in dark if you take too long ,so bring a torch . Otherwise a nice stay in conservation park close to walks etc .

Dear Wendy, Thank you for your review. We were sorry to hear you were not warm enough as this particular slow combustion heater was chosen for the large amount of heat output it generates. We leave enough wood inside the cottage for the 1st day and the remainder is left in the shed for guests to access if & when needed. This arrangement has worked really well so we were a bit surprised to hear you ran out. We're glad you enjoyed your stay and will make sure you're extra warm next time.

We spent two lovely relaxing nights at Goondooloo Cottage (my second visit) and will definitely be back! The cottage is in such a beautiful location with great views from the floor to ceiling windows which make you feel that you are outside! The wood heater is such a lovely alternative to a TV - nothing better than watching the flickering flames. The kitchen has everything you need and the cottage is just such a lovely place to stay. Feels like you are miles away. We went on a couple of lovely hikes to explore the park and left feeling really refreshed. Jane and Barry were lovely hosts. Highly recommend!

A Surprise for my husband turning 50 with family. Jane and Barry helped me to organise the best present ever while as a family we got to stay in an amazing eco accomodation which is surrounded by nature and wildlife in the deep creek conservation park. We disconnected from technology and reconnected as a family in beautiful surroundings of nature which this accomodation allows you to feel part of it while sitting in front of a warm wood heater.
