Basically you come to this part of Laos to take the boat trip through the cave, and need somewhere in the area to stay. We chose this place for that reason. But as a number of recent reviews have said, the hotel seems on a downward slide. It may be because the son has taken over from the father This...

I have very mixed feelings about Sala Hinboun. The setting on the rivers edge is beautiful and allows for a very peaceful and relaxing stay. We stayed in the river view cabin (room 10) at 29USD a night inc. breakfast. The double room is actually a twin, spacious, with a nice balcony and seating area over looking the river. Handmade...

- Nice, wooden bungalows on stilts (room 8 probably the nicest) - Basically the only place to get good food in the valley (Nahin and Kong Lo might be exceptions): try the fish "fried as a whole", fried spicy chicken, chicken laap, fried soy vegetables or french fries. - Peaceful view, located next to the river - if several people...

After a long ride in the soaring heat/humidity we arrived at the Auberge Sala Hinboun positioned beautifully beside a river. Rooms are sparsely furnished and could be cleaner but they are functional. For dinner the chef organised suckling pig (2 infact) with fresh vegetables and rice. The dinner was delicious. Breakfast was lovely with freshly prepared omelettes and fresh coffee....

If you ever see the words "Eco" in SE Asia, run far. Very far away. Eco in this part of the world means 3rd world accommodations at first world prices, with little to zero respect for the environment (most places dump septic waste right back into the environment, untreated). The Auberge Sala Hinboun is a perfect case in point. The...

The lodge rooms are basic and the lodge lacks even modest investment on basics like sheets; whilst clean they were very old. However the manager and staff are friendly and helpful and it's worth remembering that this part of Laos remains very rural. It is a very pleasant location and by far and away the most charming lodge near the...

I stayed two nights on a birding trip to the limestone karst areas. Ignore the photo of a skyscraper that somebody has loaded - this is an eco-lodge along a quiet river. Fairly basic rooms (straw mats on wooden slats, no hot water etc) but that is all I needed.

The ecolodges are located in a small Laotian village, on the riverbank. The scenery around the lodges is very beautiful with the Bin Hun river and the mountains. Staff was very friendly, but only the manager spoke English. The lodges are very pretty with wooden floors and table and chairs outside, but lack some maintenance. One of my mosquito protection...

We had a bungalow along the river. Quiet and a nice view. The room was good. The only drawback was the lack of AC; it was very hot during our visit. We were the only vistors. The hotel - although charming - looks like it had better and buzier times in the past. The staff was friendly, but there was...
