This is the lowest rank I’ve ever given to a hotel. Generally I give 4s or 5s. Honestly this one got a two because it does have a lake view, otherwise I might have given a 1. Here’s why:

1. I’m disabled but not in a wheelchair. The handicapped room we reserved was the farthest from the elevator, a long walk for a disabled person to walk. It was right next to the stairs but what handicapped person does well with stairs? Before we settled in the room I called to inquire if another king bed room was available nearer the elevator and was flippantly told no, even though the vacancy sign was lit outside. No other rooms were offered nor was there any attempt to resolve the issue.

2. We reserved far in advance and we reserved two separate nights because we decided to add another day. The card we used to secure the room was compromised between the time we reserved and traveled but we called and gave the new replacement credit card number to secure the room, stressing that we had two reservations and that the card should be used on both nights. We were assured both had been updated. On the second night we arrived back at our room after 10 PM to discover we were locked out. Presuming our key cards had been magnetized my husband went to the front desk for replacements, leaving me sitting on the stairs. We discovered they tried to charge the old card which was properly declined. Even though we were there, they did not reach out to us by phone or text nor did they look back at the prior night to see the correct card number. The new correct card was presented and charged. There was no apology offered for the error.

3. When we entered our room we discovered the room had not been cleaned and restocked. The bed was unmade, towels in the floor, etc. the room should have been serviced that morning. The card should not have been charged until after 6 PM; therefore there was no excuse for not cleaning the room.

4. The most egregious error and the reason the hotel received a 2 instead of a 3 is that these problems were brought to the attention of Wyndham after the second nights debacle. It has been 4 weeks and Wyndham has yet to respond, despite being reminded the issue remained pending on 3 occasions.

5. Overall the hotel needs to be spruced up. Peeling wallpaper, frayed carpet - but the bed was comfortable and it was nice to have a view of the lake, but staff training is a major issue

Decent stay here. I find it misleading when they say that "guests can enjoy breakfast during their visit." We got 2 coupons to a nearby restaurant because there are four of us, and then were told that you are limited to one per family. Staff was friendly, and they had to have the hottest shower water in the UP, seriously I couldn't dial it back quickly enough.

They show you a nice breakfast area and state free breakfast as one of the amenities, but the "grab and go" breakfast that they offer their guests is a joke (an apple, a bottle of water, and a very small stale granola bar).

You will not get your money's worth. The coffee in the lobby was extremely watered down. Also, the hotel is in dire of a deep clean and updating.

This is the dirtiest room we have ever stayed in, and we travel a lot. The bathroom floor tiles were filthy, and there was a dead fly in the grout. There were also used towels hanging on the back of the door. The carpet looked as if it was not swept, and had fresh spots that looked like food in front of the bathroom door. The beds smelled as if they hadn't been changed, and the room was very heavily dusty down to the floor boards. We could have accepted that the tiles were cracked and the room needed updating had it been clean. When I went to the front desk, she sent someone to "clean up better,” the cleaner simply made excuses saying that the dust just comes back. She only dusted where I pointed out the dust, swept out the bathroom with a broom, and swept the carpet in front of the door with the broom, saying the spot was a burn mark. All of this was said with a friendly smile, I must say. Sadly, I paid more for a room with a balcony because this trip was for our 54th anniversary. There was a large hole in the screen, in the sliding screen door and it was off the track and difficult to open. We were told that the hotel was booked fully, so we could not be given a different room. What a disappointment, to say the least.

The front desk staff were amazing and very helpful, but that is the only positive I can share about the hotel. The main areas were in total disarray. The breakfast areas was closed for remodeling "indefinitely" but there are no signs of construction. The room we stayed in was like a dark brown cave that smell of stale cigarette smoke and had black mold on the ceiling in the bathroom. So glad we only stayed one night. A total waste of my Wyndham Rewards Points.

The only thing about this was the front desk gal was very friendly. I updated our room to a lake view the day before our arrival. We were given a handicapped room with a view through overgrown shrubs to the parking lot. The room smelled of moldy/must, purchased a can of Lysol to cover the smell. Feet stuck to the carpet, and it was wet. Hot tub was nonfunctional. Outdoor deck area had moldy carpeting with a strong smell of cat urine. Bathroom floor was slanted, toilet uneven, wallpaper peeling off wall. Good thing we only were there for 2 nights, and the weather allowed us to be outdoors. Would have definitely checked in someplace else if having a longer stay. Should have read all the reviews prior to booking but I guess it is you get what you pay for, pictures on their web site do not do justice. Traveler beware!!!!!!

The attendant was borderline rude. It smelled like mildrew and the floor of 316 felt like a wet towel. Most of the building was in disrepair. All of my clothing and belongings smelled just like the room when I took them home, I had to wash everything with baking soda and vinagar.

I left a pair of shorts and a set of earrings behind and was told that they threw them away...

I was so disappointed.....

Check in was nice, front desk staff was friendly. My family of 4 was in room 114, two queen beds, my oldest asked for an extra blanket and was told they were out of blankets. The room was next to the pool and there was an overwhelming smell of chlorine. We had a walk out slider on the ground level that didn't lock properly. The room felt damp, the bathroom was huge with no counter space, no hooks to hang towels up. There were three light switches that all ran different lights, no fan. The tub/shower was in complete disrepair. It had cracks in the patches placed to repair the tub and the valve did not operate properly. We didn't know what temperature of water we were going to get. The shower curtain had holes and what looked like lip stick on it. We will never stay there again. It was not worth the cost.

The stay at this hotel was the absolute worst I've ever had. Not only did they make us go check in at a different hotel across the street, they never performed room service, no new towels, garbage bags were sitting in the hallways, socks and trash were just outside of our supposed beach view. To top it off, they charged us multiple times and more than our original reservation. And worse yet, the people across the street that are running this dump, were very rude and passive aggressive in dealing with guests. Stay away and don't let them ruin your stay.

This hotel is not what it appears to be on the website. The pictures portrayed are NOTHING like what you get when you arrive. The carpets are stained, the hotel is dark, the amentias are non existent. Breakfast included was a white bag with a warm water, old granola bar and a hard, non tasting red apple. The windows in the pool room were broken and would not shut all the way, with no screens and bugs were getting in. The air conditioning system in the room was throwing out a wet mist and the room felt damp the entire time we were there. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

what makes this Motel worth $500. a night, or is it a typo?
Answer from Jerry H
Marquette, Michigan82 contributions12 helpful votes
My best guess is a typo because there is no way that place is worth $500 a night. Yes the location is good but the hotel itself is old and is very worn. I had a hard time excepting the $100 a night I paid when I stayed there.

The ones on south end of Mackinaw City would have a better view from balcony - like Bridgeview Vista - request 2nd floor balcony - can see Island and bridge. Also Clearwater.
