The first room we checked into smelled like wet dog-even worse when we turned on the heat, hair in sink, dog kibble on floor and the beds felt like 2 box springs. We couldn’t handle the smell so asked to be moved. 2nd room had way better beds and no smells. Dead bug in bathroom, wallpaper peeling in bathroom. Shower head is so low that at 5’6 i had to lean backwards...imagine my husband at 6’4”. Bathroom needs updated badly. Its ok for what we paid but its not great and ive stayed at way better for a lot less. Staff at desk were friendly and helpful.

I bet this is the only Econolodge property in the world that offers log cabins! Unfortunately, behind two rows of cabins stand the standard motel rooms. At least they have pine paneling so they do feel a little bit like a cabin.

The room is large, the pillows are soft and the matress is good. What gets this property its low rating is its internet service. While quite good near the pool it is unusable in the motel rooms. I had some success connecting to the open network at the resort next door. I know it’s probably unfair to rate a motel on its internet but it’s important to me as a solo traveler.

Pool was open but no breakfast due to COVID.

The fiancee and I decided to have a little weekend getaway during the fall color season in Mackinaw. We are both low maintenance people who are willing to sacrifice a little luxury in order to save some money before our wedding. I was fairly dissastified overrall though.

GOOD: We had no problems at check in although the front desk area/room smelled like old B.O. The interior of the rooms was actually not bad considering how old and run down the exterior of the cabin was. We had the king size bed/ jacuzzi room. The jacuzzi was great and enjoyed the fact it was in a seperate room. The hotel location was very convenient to all of the shopping and ferries. The maids did a respectable job the one day we needed them.

BAD: The shower was ridiculous. First of all, you have to be about 4 feet tall to get under the shower head and the water pressure was almost non existent. The cabin's exterior was in horrible shape. The website shows them as painted white/cream in color which looks clean when in actuality they had an old worn out red barn color and were covered in spider webs at all times. There was no attempt to clean them at all and my fiancee is horrified by spiders. I understand we're up north and you will have bugs but to make no attempts to clean these old spider webs is mystifying. The bed was terribly hard and we both woke up with back aches and we are still fairly young people. (late 20's/early 30's) The continental breakfast/ indoor pool is actually at the sister hotel next door so you might as well stay there for the money.

CONCLUSION: We are not picky people and usually make the best of most situations but I won't return. These problems stem from simply not understanding their customer's needs or just plain ignorance. They weren't that much cheaper to justify the bad qualities. I would highly encourage you to not bring other couples/families with you should you dare to stay because it would be humiliating. The rating system should have 1 and half stars because it was far from "okay, but some problems" but not completely terrible.

It saddens me deeply to write such an awful review of this beautiful place! My husband and I were heading South from Chassell to our home in lower Northeast Michigan and had to travel approximately 5 hours just to get to this hotel in Mackinaw City where we had booked a cabin for the night. It was such a long night of driving as we were traveling home from a business trip that weekend. We let the gentleman on the phone know that we would be arriving at about 1am and after we reserved and paid for our room over the phone with him, he directed us to pick up our key at the Hamilton Inn across the street when we arrived, as their lobby would close at midnight and he would let the Hamilton know we are coming. Not a big deal. When we got there at 1am, the Hamilton did not have our room reservation for our cabin and in turn, gave us a key to what turned out to be a cabin that was already occupied at 1:30am! How embarassing!! Turned out the Econo Lodge's lobby was indeed still open so we drove in, upset of course, and to make things worse we found out they had given our "reserved and paid for" cabin to someone else!! We ended up in a 2 star hotel around the block that night after a long hassle of apologies and a rats nest of other people in the same predicament as us at this hotel! These people running the Econo Lodge do NOT have the skills as to keeping room reservations straight with their visitors! WHAT AN INCONVENIENCE to say the least! Having a reservation confirmation means nothing here on a busy weekend! And these cabins are not cheap! We were promised a phone call from management the next morning and never heard a thing. I am not saying that the customer is always right, but the customer is the customer and we lost our room at no fault of our own with no regard from management. Truly disappointing service.

We stayed on Aug. 27, in room 222. Would NEVER even thought if staying a second night. At first sight the room looked, ok. Then I noticed the sink area had not been cleaned AT ALL! The shower hadn't been touched either. There was soap still stuck to the walls! There were muddy foot prints on the bathroom floor and muddy hand prints on the room and bathroom doors. The rusty shower curtain rod definitely needed replacing! And, the screen with the hole in it needed repair!

This hotel has a great location and we can walk to the Starline ferry. Unfortunately the wifi is not very good especially in the back rooms. Sometimes we have to sit in our car which was not helpful last month when our daughter had schoolwork to complete. The buffet (in past years) was great. We were confused why last month the outdoor hot tub was closed due to Governor's orders but the inside, steamy, enclosed hot tub and pool were open??? The rooms are usually very clean each time we have stayed.

Dirty: Windows, curtains, doors, light switches are really dirty in time of covid, no breakfast, no Wifi. Liners had holes from cigarette. Room looked much worse than on pics. Very noisy because of the pool. You can hear everything from the room next to you too.

Great place to stay with young kids. They can be outside and the pool was very nice. Many tourist activites nearby, less than a mile from Mackinaw Bridge. Only about a hour away from the Soo Locks. Hotel staff was very friendly, responded quickly when I requested extra towels for out cabin. Will defiantly be making reservation for a return visit soon.

Room was nice and cozy but tv did not work. Called the front desk they said they would send someone right away. Waited for and hour and a half. No help from the front desk. Had trouble with the water temp staying consistent.

Was a great location! Loved the decor of the cabins . Price was right . Only thing to complain about was it didn’t have a microwave or internet access. But, can live without that. Outdoor pool looked nice. I was happy and would visit there again
