Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The owners stay on the property and treat you like friends that they really are about. They host a campfire with the guests provide games and offer very neat and clean rooms that are decorated to a theme like "Somewhere in time". They are very attentive to your needs and I could not think of a better place to stay.

We had the pleasure of staying in the "Somewhere in Time Room". Absolutely fantastic. When we both went into this room, we both said "wow" at the same time. What a beautiful clean room with the elegance of a Victorian Style Motif. I did meet Terry upon check in and he was very accommodating and extremely friendly and nice. This is definitely the best Mom and Pop Motel that we have stayed in. The yard is also beautiful featuring clay fountain pots with lots of flowers and well kept. I would definitely recommend anyone who visits Mackinaw City to give this wonderful gem a try. Next time we visit Mackinaw City, we will stay there again. Thank you

An excellent mom and pop motel. Highly recommend. Older but very clean Conveniently located within walking distance of main street, ferry docks, Lighthouse, etc... Sorry that it was too rainy to enjoy the usual evening outside fire. Hope to be back.

There are good and not so good things about this motel. I’d imagine most people are drawn by the relatively modest cost and that it’s clean and properly maintained. However, I can’t really recommend it to anyone. The rooms are, of course fairly dated from top to bottom. They are quite small and don’t really work by today’s standards. It is affordable by comparison, the owner is pleasant fellow, but overall it leaves you feeling sad.

This is a wonderful place to stay. My only regret is that we were only there for one night. This is family owned with the owners living on site. They are friendly and easy to talk with. The courtyard is filled with flowers and we were invited to join others at the firepit.
From the previous posts I assume the rooms each have a different theme. Ours was "The Up North Room" with everything following that theme, not only the decorations, but the furniture as well. Careful attention was paid to all the details. It was a delightful and fun room. Spacious and we'll lit, it was exceptionally clean and well kept up.
I have no hesitation recommending this motel. And I would definitely choose it for myself again.

Found this wonderful place on Trip Advisor and glad we did. Two bedroom suite right at the end of the season. Nice rooms, comfy beds and amenities. Terry and Jenifer were great hosts. Set up our room for late arrival...so easy. Great recommendations for dining, got us ferry tickets too.

Our 2nd night we joined their nightly fire pit gathering with them and other guests. We got toasty warm and enjoyed the conversation.

Terry lent us chairs and red lights so we could go to the Headlands Dark Sky Park to try and see the Aurora Borrealus. No light that night, but it turns out folks from the on-site observatory set up telescopes so we saw some incredible star gazing.

We will definitely come back in season next year. Great hosts who go the extra mile.

This is a simple, but wonderful motel in the heart of Mackinaw City. My guess is that it's 1960's construction. They've done a great job updating it and making it warm and welcoming. It's a very short walk to all of the restaurants and shops, short walk to the bridge and fort Michlimackinaw, and a small playground for the kids is right across the street, and yet it's in a quiet neighborhood.

Terry is a great host. My wife loves the gardens, and the nightly bonfires. I love the clean, comfortable room and the unbeatable price.

The owners are friendly and helpful. The themed room was very cute and clean. The landscaping is gorgeous. The motel is 2 blocks from the beach and 2 blocks from town in a residential area. The nightly firepit is wonderful to be able to meet others from all over the country. We are already talking about staying again in a different themed room. Wonderful find and we are happy we stayed.

We tried to stay overnight but after switching rooms because of the offensive odor of the first and again in the 2nd room we collected our belongings and switched to a different place. We even tried opening the door and windows but the odor was not going away. Terry the owner was not customer service friendly.

Response from Terry Davis, Owner at Lamplighter Motel
Responded 24 July 2020
We are sorry that you didn’t enjoy your stay. We pride ourselves on customer service, and clean rooms. I do remember you switching rooms, however you stated it was because of the decor, not an odor. When asked if the second room was ok, you said yes. I am sorry that you felt the need to leave us a poor review, 9 days later, especially when the facts are misconstrued. As you can see by our many good reviews, we are a great property to visit.

Really great owners that go out of their way to serve. Everything in room works!, social firepit at night, easy parking, clean, great air conditioning. Not luxurious by any means but clean, basic, functional rooms. I left behind a personal item by accident and they called to inform me that evening, carefully packed it and mailed to my home. You don't see that kind of service in any industry nowadays. Really went out of their way and they deserve recognition for that. Highly recommend for a couple.

THey did not include breakfast but recommended a great place within walking distance for which they gave us a coupon. It is an easy walk to town (maybe a block) and the bridge (maybe three blocks)
