The room was clean although we did wipe things down again as we did visit during Covid. The bathroom could use updating but again not bad. We did have a balcony room that is much smaller than indicated on the website And needed cleaning as there were webs and spiders everywhere. The chairs on the balcony also need a cleaning as there are seagulls everywhere.
It should be noted again that the website needs to be updated due to Covid. The website indicates there is a 25 foot breakfast buffet that is not available. We were given a bagged breakfast that contained a piece of fruit a very inexpensive granola bar and a bottled water. I would not have minded if this had been disclosed during At the room.
The pictures do not do the beach justice as there are now many rocks that you need to climb over to get to the water. Apparently part of the beach front had been washed away and the rocks were placed to eliminate further erosion, Again this wouldn’t have bothered me if it had been disclosed. For a $250 room that I brought two teenage boys to and this was a key reason I made the reservations as well as the breakfast bar.

Beds were very comfortable with clean, crisp linens. There was a slight musty odor in the room, most likely due to the proximity to the lake. The bathroom overhead fixture strobed until it was on for awhile. The bathroom faucet leaked almost continuously. The shower was wonderfully strong and hot. The hotel was quiet, and we enjoyed the ability to keep the slider open at night to hear the calming waves. Either a full breakfast should be offered as advertised, or the price of the room should be adjusted appropriately.

We stayed one night on our way back toward home from the UP. There is another place we typically like to stay but it was full. I had really wanted a beachfront room but couldn’t believe the pricing for a night and they were all booked. We ended up with an inside room and decided to spend our time heading over to the island. We were a bit surprised how busy things were for a Wednesday but it is summer and many may be off work due to corona and layoffs. We really enjoyed our room having 2 queen beds and the bathroom was very nice with a nice size countertop in the bathroom to get ready at. My daughter wanted to swim so we decided to hit the pool around 9pm and it was nice they keep it open until midnight. They also had a door cracked letting some fresh air into the pool area which was nice so it wasn’t as steamy and chlorinated in the air. We did notice a ton of sand was tracked into both the pool and hot tub. I’m sure people walk in from outside at the beach area and it comes with them. We ended up going out for breakfast so we didn’t grab the bagged breakfast on our way out. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again.

Just got back from the best vacation in a very long time. My lady & I stayed a weekend in Mackinaw city. We had chosen the Hamilton Inn on the Beach as our home away from home for that weekend and it was everything we expected and more. It was simply, AMAZING! Checking in with Rick was very quick yet informative. He also provided us with a "coupon Package" that had many discounts for local restaurants and information on all the attraction tickets that they can sell you at discounted prices. Knowing that we only really needed one bed, Rick also hooked us with a Jacuzzi room with a King size bed right on the beach, overlooking the water. The room was very spacious & clean and the jacuzzi was perfect size, definitely felt great after a day on the island. Thank you all at The Hamilton for making our weekend Spectacular and we are already planning a fall trip back up there.

Pros: great price and spacious, beach front with a beautiful view.
Cons: dirty, I am a clean freak and this room was just a horror for me. I had to Clorox everything to feel like I could even touch the surfaces and handles. The rooms were so musty smelling no matter what we did, our bathroom smelled like old must, and there is no fan. Wallpaper is gross and stained and peeling off the walls. No smoke detector!!!! No CO2 detector. What if there was a fire? There was nothing to make noise and alert anyone, only exposed wires hanging from the ceiling. No temperature control for the front room of our suite, only a vent near the ceiling that took the air from the back “master” room and pumped it into the front room. It was at least 10° warmer in the front room than the back. Very rude and pushy cleaning staff- the lady did not clean our room per our request, she just gave us new towels and ASKED for a tip—like what?? If I feel you deserve a tip I will provide one of my own will, I don’t need to be heckled out of one for just receiving clean towels. A gentleman had said he found a hair ball in his coffee pot—gross.
I really wish a big hotel (Hilton) chain would buy this hotel and bulldoze it down and rebuild a nice hotel in its place as the view and location are great but the quality is horrible. Would not stay here again but I don’t know of any better options in the area with a beach front view.....

Called made a reservation for Premium Lakeside room received a confirmation email when we arrived the gave our room away said they did not have a reservation so they gave us a room overlooking the parking lot . There was no iron in the room we had an ironing board and the jetted tub didn't work. The hotel advertised breakfast which was a piece of fruit and a bottle of water. The 2 times we were in the lobby there were other guest complaining about the lost reservations so it was not just ours. I would not recommend this hotel at any price.

Well this is how our great get away goes from wonderful to terrible !!! this is our experience at the Hamilton 7/5 7/6 2020in mackinaw city worst $600 + i have ever spent first arrived and took nearly an hour to check in and there was only one person that jumped ahead of us because they gave a room that was already occupied and needed new room, desk clerk with us didnt seem to know what he was doing, after getting room 349 we get to 3rd floor and when exiting elevator the room sign only listed room number up to 340 so we asked one of the employees and they said they didnt know where that room was so he asked a 2nd worker they directed him to send use down stairs but i had to tell him we were already on 3rd floor he did go and find the room for use, once in the room we noticed how dirty it was was first lots of dust, then shortly we notice bathroom floor was sticky enough to stick socks to it and then found more stickiness spots between bed and couch again sock would stick to it so you could feel sock pull away from foot. i proceeded to call front desk and request room be cleaned while we were gone, 4 hours later when we got back room was in same condition. i once again called the front desk little more angry and they sent a crew up they tried to tell us its the covid cleaner they were using that makes it sticky but after they cleaned bathroom floor the stickiness was gone but the carpet was still sticky we ended up throwing towels over the carpet, and when we left the second day i asked directly if room was going to be cleaned and was told yes they did replace towels in bathroom but didnt bother cleaning carpet not to mention didnt even take towels off the floor that we had covering the stickiness , i will never stay at this hotel again, We also did go talk directly with front desk and requested to speak to a manager and was told they do not have a manager on the grounds but did give me number to call, which turned out to be the chamber of commerce of mackinaw city they are the ones who handle complaints for many hotels there she was a very nice lady 'that said she will give us a voucher for any of the hotels they handle ( mailed to me ) asap but can only use it on off season nothing on web site stating no breakfast is being served but they also state access to water park in there word 3 min walk ( well its a mile walk i am in now way can walk fast enough to make a 20 min in 3 min to the water park and yes its access but you'll still need to pay for it they really should tell the truth on web site also again please nobody stay there it sucks wish i could give 0 stars

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Below is a copy of an email I sent to the hotel manager and the tourism bureau on 8/1/21 and have yet to receive a response. In addition a friend of ours who was with had a room with a soaked carpet and all lamps unplugged. We had to move beds to plug in lamps and clocks. Also the breakfast to go was only a bottle of water, an apple and a granola bar. Other than some room cleaning staff we met when we got to our room, no one seemed very interested in going out of their way to help anyone.
I made a reservation a few months ago through the Bureau's website. When I attempted to check in today my reservations where not on the arrival list. I was told the was some glitch in the system that prevented older reservations from showing up.
Ultimately were we able to get rooms though not beach front ones based on the price they would have been at the time of the original reservation.
I have a few issues here:
1) If you know there is a glitch then a work around should have been in place. Your arrival list should have been checked against the Bureau's information. We had a valid reservation that the check in person could find on the Bureau's site. This is not an error that should have happened.
2) While the check in person was doing her best to help we never once received an apology, only an explanation. I know the error was not her fault but proper training would dictate this.
3) I am not adding this item in order to get anything discounted or comped but I have done quite a bit of traveling. In previous situations where there was an issue something of value was usually offered. None was in this case as it appears to be house policy. Offering different rooms at the price we could have originally booked them is not a discount.
4) A manager should be around to handle these situations. I should not have to resort to an email to an off site manager.
5) The hotel website says there is a business office. When I went to inquire about its location I was informed it was not available.

My husband and I reserved a lakefront room for two nights in July 2021. We received a confirmation e-mail, but when we arrived, they did not have our reservation. Eventually they found us a room, but it was not beach/lake front as it was supposed to be, and the two people at the front desk were NOT friendly. In addition, although the website and the sign in front of the building said they provided a free breakfast, their breakfast room was closed. We received an apple, granola bar and a bottle of water. On the second night there, we requested clean wash clothes. We were told that they'd be brought up to our room, but they never arrived. We checked out the next morning. When checking out, I asked the same person I spoke to the night before about the wash clothes, and she acted like she didn't know what I was talking about. Also, the bathtub/shower combo needs to be updated. I would NEVER stay here again. The location is convenient to the ferry, but the staff needs some lessons on customer service.

My husband and I spent one night on our way back from the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. When staying at this hotel, the only outstanding feature is the view. I will say the noise level was good and the bed relatively comfortable, but for the price you get very little. We paid $387. (tax included). The room description offers a free hot breakfast but they only gave each of us a small apple, a bottle of water and a Chewy granola bar. We stayed on the second floor not too far from the lobby but there was no WiFi at all. We realize these are trying times but the website info ought to be changed to reflect the big difference in amenities!! This hotel is old and overused. There was a strong stench of body odor in the room, the carpet badly stained and the smoke alarm was hanging by its wire from the ceiling. Probably it was whacked with someone's towel because it goes off from the shower steam. Despite all of this, we did enjoy sitting on the balcony and watching the children swim...and guests were not noisy so we got a decent rest. Overall though we feel we were cheated out of our money on this room in a big way. Finally, for those interested, I did notice also that only some of the staff and guests were wearing masks.....

I totally agree with you! We had our reservation for over a month and one hour before we were to check in (after driving over 1000 miles) we were called by a very rude woman to say that there was "water damage" and we were moved to another hotel that was attached to the Hamilton (there's more but it just upsets me to talk about it). Bait and switch is exactly what it is and the fact that the city supports it is just awful!
I typically really try to post wherever we go because I try to plan our vacations around the reviews. I agree. I think the more reviews the better overall view you get.
sorry, wrong place....Ask at the front desk...they will tell you their wifi password.
Also note, android and i-os do not allow you to connect to an unsecured wifi. When you log onto the wifi, a connection page must pop up on your browser where you enter the password given to you. without the page, you cannot use the wifi.
You can force the page to open by attempting to open and close a random known site for news or sports. When you close those pages, the connct page should pop up.
There are more places to choose from in the Mackinaw City area.
