The Hamilton Inn Select Beachfront has garnered attention for its prime location, offering easy access to local attractions and beachfront vistas. While some guests commend the hotel's cleanliness and spacious rooms, opinions on the decor and maintenance suggest a need for updates. Service quality seems to vary, with experiences ranging from professional to disappointing. Despite the mixed reviews on amenities and atmosphere, the consensus among many travelers is that the hotel may not provide the best value for its price point.

Check in was slow for no apparent reason. The keycards are very sensitive to de-activation if they get too close to electronics. They are also glitchy and take multiple swipes to get into the room. Management should provide RFID sleeves to guests to avoid this major stress-point. Housekeepers seemed to be arguing amongst themselves constantly and left the carts unattended everywhere. Breakfast was okay, except for the eggs which had an odd grainy consistency. Pancakes, ham was a nice touch (rather than bacon or sausage), the usual bagels, cereals, canned fruit, waffle maker. Climate control in the room was just okay, it was humid, but the unit couldn’t get the moisture out of the air. The carpet and bedspreads felt damp. I will look for an alternate hotel next time.

Beds were very comfortable with clean, crisp linens. There was a slight musty odor in the room, most likely due to the proximity to the lake. The bathroom overhead fixture strobed until it was on for awhile. The bathroom faucet leaked almost continuously. The shower was wonderfully strong and hot. The hotel was quiet, and we enjoyed the ability to keep the slider open at night to hear the calming waves. Either a full breakfast should be offered as advertised, or the price of the room should be adjusted appropriately.

We stayed here for 2 days and had a king/queen room. When you walk into the room you enter into the queen bedroom first which is a little odd, then take the hallway past the bathroom into the open king bedroom which had the balcony with views of the lake. The room itself was very nice and updated with views of the lake, Sheppler's ferries, and the Icebreaker USCG ship. There are a lot of seagulls which can be a little loud at times but the sound of the waves and views of the lake are pure bliss. FYI, there is no continental breakfast even though there is a breakfast room. You only get a "to-go" paper bag which contains a bottle of water, apple, and a granola bar that looks stepped on. So plan on eating breakfast out at any of the over-prices restaurants near by. I'd recommend going over the bridge into St. Ignace and eating somewhere there.

Just got back from the best vacation in a very long time. My lady & I stayed a weekend in Mackinaw city. We had chosen the Hamilton Inn on the Beach as our home away from home for that weekend and it was everything we expected and more. It was simply, AMAZING! Checking in with Rick was very quick yet informative. He also provided us with a "coupon Package" that had many discounts for local restaurants and information on all the attraction tickets that they can sell you at discounted prices. Knowing that we only really needed one bed, Rick also hooked us with a Jacuzzi room with a King size bed right on the beach, overlooking the water. The room was very spacious & clean and the jacuzzi was perfect size, definitely felt great after a day on the island. Thank you all at The Hamilton for making our weekend Spectacular and we are already planning a fall trip back up there.

My GF and I stopped here on a spontaneous road trip and it wqs GREAT! First off, we pulled into the quiet little town off I-75 @ 9pm so it we werent expecting much, just didn’t want to cross the Mighty Mac in the blowing snow with the huge wind gusts, Scary for a first timer, lol. We pulled into the Hamilton since it looked like the place to stay in town as they had quite a few cars in their lot and their blue accent lights on their building really set the tone and make it look really nice. Once we parked, we walked inside and were greeted by a nice gentleman named Dick. He gave us a great deal on one of their newer jacuzzi rooms on the water and also mentioned we received 10% off at The Dixie Saloon down the road from them. We paid, receieved our keys and went to the room. When we walked into the room, it was beautiful, Great job housekeeping. We had a king size bed for us and jacuzzi in the bathroom and our own private balcony, granted it was dark and FREEEZING but still really pretty. We were a little hungry and wanted to check out town a little, so we did try the Dixie Saloon with our discount and it was amazing, friendly staff,,good food and great beer brewed right there at the dixie. Our room was very nice and clean, the bed was very comfortable and the Jacuzzi was so relaxing. We even got to enjoy a free breakfast in the morning. Thanks for the hook-up on the room and the tips for adventuring The upper Pennisula. We will definitely return if ever back in the area.

I never usually give bad ratings.. but this something I feel I should write my friend wanted for us to have a short getaway… there was extra money paid for a hot tub in the room, we ran the water and it wasn’t staying in so we realized there was a round plastic thing on the side that we needed to lay over there so we let the water down.. however after the water had gone down, there was a black substance all over the tub and when we wiped it, it had an oily substance to it so we had called to report it and they did send someone over but at that point who wants to sit in a tub that looks like our tub dead it was gross so they didn’t decide to move us until I was tired and needed to go to bed, the rooms say their updated for $150. It was not worth it. It was winter there was barely anything open… so I went to the front very politely started talking to the lady. She said I know your story and basically said she couldn’t do anything. She could’ve at least taken off what we had paid for the hot tub in the room since it was really unusable… also we misunderstood the time for breakfast on a Saturday closing at 9 AM for breakfast is kind of ridiculous. We were late, but there was still things out. There was also several young boys that wanted to eat so one of the boys asked for a bowl, the lady working they’re really yelled at the boy very badly. We heard the whole thing. I will never stay at this hotel again and neither will my friend!!! plus when you look at the updates, there were some areas. I don’t know who updated this, but it wasn’t very good. The food was not good either I feel I need to write this if you’re looking for a hotel you may want to look somewhere else I do not suggest this hotel to anyone.. this is probably the first and only bad review I have ever written…

This place seemed dingy and shabby to me. The lighting in my room was so dim I could hardly see my way around, both in the room and the bathroom. Lightbulbs were either burned out or empty sockets in both areas. The single window was streaked and dirty with a few dead bugs. The halls seemed like they could use a coat of paint. The doors leading in from the parking lot were not keycard secured. The receptionist upon arrival was perfunctory, but not welcoming, she offered no info beyond the location of my room, and there was no info in the room about amenities, time or location of breakfast, WiFi password, map of grounds, etc. There was a message on the answering machine from the previous occupant that hadn’t been erased. This place is located on the beach, but it was not apparent how to get there from my room. I had to ask another guest how to get there. I paid a bit more for this place thinking it would be nicer. Disappointing.

On the positive side, the bed was comfortable and the showerhead had a nice spray. The room was clean enough I think, but with the lighting so dim, I couldn’t be sure. The checkout receptionist was cheery and kind, and she offered a packaged piece of Mackinac Island fudge on departure.

Not the best for many reasons:

1. Lack of breakfast. No eggs, no sausage, 99% carbohydrates (toast, bagel, 3 inch diameter pancakes, cereal, waffle). They only had ham slices for protein. No yogurt

no banana no orange. Only had apples.

Only juice is orange which tasted like Tang made.
The hot water for tea is behind the counter and not by the coffee dispenser. The employee told me to go to the back of the countertop to get hot water.
See pictures.

2. Very outdated

3. No signage/map inside hotel for directions. Breakfast? on third floor between all the rooms.

4. Needed a bandaid, the reception desk didn’t know where to find one.

5. Rooms are dark

6. The main coffee dispenser that’s on the main floor is shot off early afternoon. Has pictures of options without description at to what it is. See picture.

7. Bathroom inside the dinning room at 725am was not cleaned out prior to guests entering for breakfast.

We are from Georgia and this was our first trip to Michigan. When we booked the hotel room, I was expecting something really nice for the $400 we were charged for one night (A Friday and the next night (Saturday) would have been more but we canceled). The room was old, very small for 2 queen beds and the balcony and beachfront was nothing special.

This hotel is more like a budget hotel honestly. Breakfast was a grab bag at the front desk....piece of fruit, bottle of water, and a granola bar. They didn't even have coffee....at all. I expected way more for the price I paid for this room.

I probably could have overlooked some things but the customer service (front desk) was horrible. These people do not care if you are happy or not. I left my phone charger in the room. I called (the same day after checking out of the hotel and asked if they had found it when cleaning and if not would they mind checking the room. They said that I had signed the paper on check out that nothing was left in the room and they did not want to disturb the current customer. I asked if they would at least call the room. They refused, were very rude, accused me of trying to gain access to the room, and said I was being a bully.

Don't waste your time or money on this hotel.

Extremely outdated rooms that are WAY overpriced and arrogant front desk staff. When I found out the rooms were now actually $50 or more per night cheaper than when I reserved I asked for an adjustment and I was told to call their head office. I called and was told by the agent "nothing I can do, we wont adjust anything for you so you will just have to pay it". We couldn't even close the bathroom door, the room stank and the beds had old stained gold bedding on it. They brag about being lakefront but dont kid yourself many hotels there are. We cancelled our 3rd night and went to The Best Western Dockside, a few hotels down for $60 a night cheaper and a more modern hotel with nicer lakefront rooms. I could say sooo much more but please take this review seriously and go elsewhere.

I totally agree with you! We had our reservation for over a month and one hour before we were to check in (after driving over 1000 miles) we were called by a very rude woman to say that there was "water damage" and we were moved to another hotel that was attached to the Hamilton (there's more but it just upsets me to talk about it). Bait and switch is exactly what it is and the fact that the city supports it is just awful!

sorry, wrong place....Ask at the front desk...they will tell you their wifi password. Also note, android and i-os do not allow you to connect to an unsecured wifi. When you log onto the wifi, a connection page must pop up on your browser where you enter the password given to you. without the page, you cannot use the wifi. You can force the page to open by attempting to open and close a random known site for news or sports. When you close those pages, the connct page should pop up.
