Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

ANY good reviews about this hotel are a flat out lie. It’s moldy, it’s disgusting it’s beyond horrible falling apart bugs you name it. Their are photos on other review sites of mushrooms growing INSIDE and I believe it based on our experience. Please save yourself the nightmare! We tried to book at another hotel and were sent here. The hotels in this city are all mostly owned by one individual/group. It’s a crazy shell game of them sending you from one lobby to the next all connected and getting a room at a motel different than the one you booked! Stay in another town and drive, trust me.

Booked through Booking.com and called motel when got there since no one actually there to run the place. You have to go to the Days Inn to pick up the keys. Went back to the motel looks abandoned, no lights on the outside of the building, one room no lights worked on the inside. Rooms are moldy and musty. Refused to stay, went back to the Days Inn and now they refuse to return the credit card money even know we did not stay there. I have been working on it for several months. No one runs these hotels but are the same owners!

Dirty. That is how I would describe it. Cigarette, dirt, bugs you name it, all were included in this room. The air conditioner was falling out of the wall and the smell was something I will always remember. The entire room was on a hill and you may roll off the bed mid slumber. The exterior was undone and the shades are broken. .01/1000 please save your money. Pictures attached.

Was looking for an inexpensive, simple, Comfortable place to stay while visiting the Headlands Dark Sky Park. I found all I needed in the Welcome Inn. It's not fancy but it is very comfortable, clean, and accessible. It is also within walking distance of Mackinaw City downtown but not in the middle of it.

In a nutshell, not as described or reviewed. Awful. Read the entire review if you would like more details.

First of all we arrived at 5pm, during working hours. NOONE was in the office, we had to call a number or “go to the pub” across the street. We called the number. A lady checked us in and told us our room is in the house ADJACENT to the motel. There were no pictures of this anywhere when I reviewed this location, so I have included one. The porch was falling off the house and the paint is peeling off the door. When we went in, the smell was god awful, boxspring was showing, one chair in the room, the bathroom-UGH, there wasn’t even room for the towels in there. We went back to the office immediately and the person who checked us in was already gone.

We went across the street to the pub, to eat to try to figure out what to do. At 7pm, we decided to see about another room, and was told the Welcome Inn was full.

We went to another motel in hopes of finding a different room. The new front desk lady called the MANAGER at the Welcome INN and told her there was nothing she could do because we booked the room through a third party site. WE DID NOT! I had the emails to prove it!

We went back to the Welcome Inn and the MANAGER sent some kid to deal with us instead of herself, we asked for a refund and she said no because “we had been in the room for several hours”. And that there was nothing she could do!

DO NOT STAY here!

My friend and I decided to stay an extra day in Mackinaw. Booked two double bed room through the city chamber of commerce page. Got a tiny, dirty, one double room. Went to work it out. Worker, while overall very pleasant, got a little salty, even when I showed my reservation. Had a room available at the Days Inn, miraculously enough (apparently connected properties?). BUT, even though our reservation showed we booked two doubles, WE HAD TO PAY EXTRA FOR ANOTHER BED. Got to the new hotel/room. No number on door. Handicapped accessible room, though big enough to be a conference room. Door locked, but looked like it had been kicked in. Beds were very comfortable, but oddest experience ever.

I booked this place as it was suggested by the MacKinaw City Chamber of Commerce - with a promotion. Door to outside has to be wiggled to get shut. Interior very dark with all 3 lights on. Bath tub/shower a disgrace. I did read some favourable reviews on CofC website, and I now am suspicious about them.
TV from B.C. era. We were up early and gone. It is also hard to figure why this is such a tourist town - seems to be a self-made tourist town with no real interests to see.
Upon arrival, we had to wait 45 minutes for the owner to come from his other more important establishments.
Will never stay there again, at motel or the town. Just stay on I-75 and throttle up.

The Welcome Inn was our Stomping Ground from 1993 until 4 years ago when we were told the Bakery sold it my parents and I went back the next year and found it disappointing no cars abandoned looking the owner told us he'll be down there at 4 pm so instead of waiting we tried another hotel further down Called The Lamplighter Inn and got a better stay for the two days we were there, we haven't been down here since 2019 due to my parents are elderly and can't drive far distances anymore but after seeing the customers photos of the Welcome Inn it was heartbreaking

Needed a room last minute for 1 night and almost everything was booked or crazy expensive. Booked through the Mackinaw Chamber of Tourism because the price was much more reasonable and reviews were okay.

The room was definitely a dated, but was clean, comfortable and priced right. Carpet looked newer, rooms was a good size, location was excellent, and bathroom served its purpose. Would definitely consider staying again if the need arises.
