Detailed Reviews
Let's face it. Most hotels these days are pretty spartan when it comes to decor. They're clean and modern, but they pretty much all look alike. But I was pleased and delighted to see how lovely our room was at the Lake View Hotel! It's a thoroughly modern hotel, but when I entered the room, it was like stepping back in time. It had a Victorian feeling, with patterned wallpaper and very nice, high quality period piece styled furniture. The only reminders that you were not in the Victorian era were the air conditioner and the flat screen TV. As a bonus, we scored a turret room, which is well worth the extra cost just for the view alone! The bed was comfortable and the complimentary breakfast was satisfying (although it's billed as a cold breakfast, there's plenty of toast and toaster waffles to go around). There's a very nice indoor swimming pool as well.

Upon our arrival we went to “precheck” in for our room, since check in was at 3pm and we arrived at 12:30pm. We had our luggage there and we were able to place any items (such as coats or bags that we forgot to check) with our stuff which was super helpful. The staff was very courteous. We explored the island a bit but we went to check in at 3pm and our room was not ready, realizing in the time of covid— housekeeping needs more time. We rented bikes. Finally at 5pm we got the text our room was ready. We stayed in the room facing the pool. Pool was beautiful, but a tad chilly for me, this kids enjoyed it! The hot tub was amazingly warm. What a beautiful hotel. Our room was clean and comfortable. I’d argue the pillows were probably the most comfortable I’d ever slept on. We checked for tags to see the brand! The views from
The 3rd floor balcony were amazing. We didn’t hear anything at night, very quiet. Although we could see the light through the doors, it did not interrupt sleep. No breakfast but we walked down to the pancake house, so not a big deal. Overall very impressed with the quality of the hotel. Will stay here again

check in was seamless. turret room is absolutely lovely!!! perfect size for 2 adults and 2 teens. pool was nice but, it is shared with another local hotel down the street at the bicycle Inn which meant the pool was pretty crowded most days. the location is the best. hotel resturant is more expensive compared the other restaurants in the area. housekeeping will not cleaning daily but, they did leave a bag on the door with extras (towels, soaps and toilet paper) on our 2nd night. breakfast drop off was a joke...terrible options but, I'm glad they tried. I would absolutely return.

On a positive note this hotel is close to the ferry dock. When we arrived we were given a nice room with Victorian type decor and a nice dining table. The front desk called us shortly after realizing that we had requested a wheelchair accessible room so they moved us to a room with a open shower. The only issue was that the bathroom door was too narrow for a standard wheelchair to pass and the remainder of the bathroom was not accessible with a low toilet and elevated sinks. I just found it unusual that something as basic as a passable door was overlooked. The second room was also smaller without a table and was around the atrium and had the noise from the pool area. In the morning the shower water temperature never got hot. The water was luke warm at best on a cold fall morning. Also the WiFi was not functioning all morning. I mentioned the lack of hot water at check out and the receptionist apologized but no explanation was given and I read another review concerning the same issue. At $350 a night I expect some basics and a hot shower is on that list and an average opening width door to a bathroom is another.

We recently spent two nights at the Lake View Hotel. Note that our trip was before Memorial Day, so although the hotel seemed busy I don't think it was near full.
I actually called to reserve the room, something I have not done in years mainly relying on online reservations now. The person who answered was very helpful and answered all my questions.
Check in was quick and the bellman was waiting for our luggage receipts and had our bags in the room a minute or two after we got in. We took the Sheplers Ferry and the dock is almost directly across the street from the Lake View, very convenient.
The hotel room was very comfortable. Of course it's not new, but if you want new you are probably on the wrong island. The mattress was very comfortable, always important in my mind. The temperature was easy to adjust and everything was in good working order.
There is one apparent change this year. From reading reviews from last year guests were offered a free complimentary breakfast dropped off at the room. Because of covid that was apparently a change from previous years. Now, no breakfast is offered at all.
There is a Keurig coffee pot in the room, but no fridge or microwave.
My partner tends to sleep in later than I do. So while she slept I ended up going to Doud's Market and got a muffin and coffee for a light breakfast. The main Doud's store is a couple blocks away from the hotel on the opposite end of the Main Street strip. But Douds has a small, second location across the street and just down a ways from the hotel. I sat out on the lobby level front porch to eat while my partner slept in and that was very nice.
The pool and hot tub were quite busy. The entire hotel seemed very clean, which is something I think about now more than ever.

Awesome location, which looks like this hotel takes it for granted. very poor accommodations care, plumbing wasn't great - shower in poor conditions and water pressure just ridiculous.
We were placed in a room just above the whole Central A/C control unit - we felt like we had a Boeing 747 taking off all night long. Pointless to complain or try anything.
Adding to that - price is expensive for what you get. Location is a bonus but not all. Certainly not worth the cost.

We just returned from a 6 night stay on Mackinac Island. We divided our trip into 2 segments. 3 nights at Lakeview and 3 nights at another place. I called in May to make the reservation and got a lake view room on overlooking Main Street with a lake view. The pictures are a bit deceiving as we discovered upon entering our room on Aug 28th. I'm an over packer so we had 3 suitcases, a back pack and a cooler bag. The room was cramped. The next morning I went down to the front desk to see if there was a larger room available to us. The manager wasn't in yet but would be shortly. We went to breakfast and stopped at the desk on our way back to the room.
The manager was there and we were able to get a non lake view room that was considerably larger for less money. The manager was very nice and really made us feel like we weren't being a bother. We packed up our room and when we returned to the hotel after our day out our luggage was waiting for us in the new room!
The cons to the property is that the wifi is spotty in the rooms so if you have anything important you have to handle you'll need to be in the lobby. I feel like this could and should be addressed on the website to make it clear you may or may not have wifi in your room.
Other than that we highly recommend a stay here.

Booked through Expedia and saved a lot of money. The hotel is on the far left side of downtown and in a great location. WiFi was good. Breakfast is currently filing out a slip and they place the items in front of your door between 7-8 AM. There is a pool and hot tub indoors in the middle of the hotel. The large pool is supposedly heated but we found it quite cold. And you could probably cook lobster in the hot tub it was so hot. We had room 435. It was very large with 2 comfortable queen beds. Wish the room had a fridge and microwave, but it doesn’t. There are a lot of outlets which is surprising for a older hotel. We found that if you wait to shower, there is a lack of hot water. We let the water run for at least 5 minutes and it still only got like warm. Check in was quick and so was check out. The porter took our luggage at check out and got them to the ferry on time for our departure. Would definitely stay here again, especially if I can get the deal we did through Expedia.

This was a last-resort stay for us—and I see why there were vacancies. The Great Turtle bar that shares a building constantly plays loud music which can be heard (and felt) in the rooms. The pool area is tiny and not well-supervised. There are signs about no food and drink, yet there were folks drinking alcohol in the hot tub, leaving their rowdy kids unsupervised the entire time we were trying to use the pool. There was a front desk worker with earbuds in playing on her phone who could have easily stepped in to check on the pool. The next day, the front desk worker had no information to share about the process of transferring bags to the ferry. The room was decently comfortable, but not exceptional. The location is convenient to the shops, but I would certainly not want one of the many rooms overlooking the pool. Of course, you’ll know from looking at Maps—but there is only a sliver of a lake view.

We booked the Lake View room because the picture on their website showed a separate seating area with a small table and chairs. When we checked in, our room looked like the standard room pictured on the website. We were told the picture for the Lake View room shows 2 queen beds, we booked the king bed, so the room was smaller. To me, this is a misrepresentation, especially when we paid $473 for one night. We received the regular sized room, at a premium price. In addition, the manager was rude stating, "This is not a Hampton Inn." I would agree, Hampton Inns are much better. The room had a very noisy portable air conditioner, and the sheet on our bed was ripped! That is what we received for $473.
