Hotel Iroquois is our new first preference for stays on Mackinac Island. In the past we have stayed at the Grand hotel on our trips, but while that hotel goes through the ups and downs of new ownership, the Iroquois has been been a light at the end of the tunnel with consistent service, amenities and value.

The lakeside location is within steps of the downtown, but yet you are on the end of town that is less congested, particularly during the busier part of the summer season. The rooms facing the lake provide wonderful sights and sounds, especially at night when the waves lap upon the shore. We enjoyed watching works construct a new pier that will provide the hotel with yet another advantage over other hotels on the island.

It's nice to see familiar faces among the employees when we stay at the hotel and they seem to genuinely enjoy their jobs and want to be helpful. It was difficult to go anywhere in the hotel and not have some ask if they could get us ice, provide more towels, etc. Nightly turndown service still exists here.

Morning continental breakfast is included in the rate and consists of a large variety of fruit, breads, danish and other breakfast items. It was never lacking in variety and abundance during our three-night stay. The hotel restaurant had not yet opened for the season for lunch and dinner guests, but in the past, the dining experience was very good.

There is no elevator in this hotel so that may prevent some people from visiting, but if walking a flight or two of steps you will be greatly rewarded by well-appointed rooms, some with walk-out balconies. It's evident the housekeeping staff takes great pride in accommodating guests. The rooms are all updated, but still maintain the look and feel of one of the older hotels on the island.

I'm happy to write this review. I don't know the hotel owners or anyone who works there, nor am I making a dime by writing this review, but when a stay goes as well as ours, it's good to tell others.

First stay on the island-now we can’t imagine staying anyplace else! Clean, quiet, comfortable, welcoming! Located at the edge of town-perfect location! It is not your average breakfast buffet, onsite pastry chef prepares the food each morning, along with the afternoon cookies as a treat. They have water to send you out for the day. The porter to and from the ferry and the room are incomparable. Yes, the steps are steep and narrow! We had a “lake view” room, but is was partially obstructed by another portion of the building, but seemed the same price as the other “lake view” rooms. The accommodations on the island are expensive. But overall a wonderful experience.

We stayed for our 25th wedding anniversary. It’s a lovely hotel with wonderful service and friendly staff.

Our room was on the ground floor with porch access. The path to the Carriage House was just outside the porch. We were surprised at how quiet our room was considering its location to the Carriage House entrance, the ferry docks and Main Street.

The room was comfortable and very clean. There was no mini-refrigerator but the hotel provided buckets of ice when requested. They provide twice a day cleaning which includes bottles of water and chocolates. We mentioned in the reservation we were celebrating our anniversary and they gifted us with a bottle of sparkling wine. The porch was our favorite. It was nice to be able to kick back and relax after hours of exploring the island.

The breakfast provided in the Carriage House consisted of coffee (no flavored creamer), tea, orange juice, hard boiled eggs, slices of ham and Cheddar cheese, a different coffee cake each day, croissants, yogurt with granola, blueberry muffins, and fresh fruit cups.

And the flowers and gardens are just stunning!

This is an old historic hotel with rooms of varying sizes. There are no elevators but gratefully there are bellman to carry your luggage. Our room was just too small to be comfortable for 2 people. The room had a queen sized bed, 2 end tables, a side table under the tv, and 2 uncomfortable small club chairs. The bathroom was tiny though there was a counter for toiletries. The lighting in the bathroom was fair and the windows had shutters that would let the morning sun in early. The room is decorated in frumpy chintz. The hotel is located at the end of the commercial district of Mackinac Island. There are some lovely public sitting areas and there is a lovely room for meals including a very nice outdoor deck with restauarnt tables and a few lounge chairs. A breakfast of muffins, hard boiled eggs, croissants, yogurt, granola, fruit and coffee or tea is included with your room rate. The front staff is very nice. The linens and towels were nice. The room was clean and well maintained. There was daily housekeeping and turndown service. Mackinac Island was very crowded when we were there and if I had do it again I would try to stay at the Grand which has a pool, more grounds and hopefully larger rooms and is more removed from the downtown area.

This was my 6th trip to Mackinac Island and I've always wanted to stay at this jewel of a hotel, located right on the water. Since it was just my husband and I this trip (kids were home) we decided to try it. We had a lovely king room that overlooked the water and also had some windows along the road, so that was a great view. The room was clean and comfortable and the housekeeping service was excellent. I truly appreciate fresh towels and a turn-down with chocolates at night, especially now that many hotels aren't even allowing housekeeping in guest rooms while they are occupied. The color scheme was a bit painful on the eyes (3 shades of green and none really matching) but I was getting Grand Hotel vibes, so that was ok. My only complaints would be how easily noise travels in this hotel. I realize these are old buildings and have limitations, but I could hear the entire conversations of the adjoining guest rooms. Not just voices in generally, but actually sentences and I really don't think those people were being inordinately loud. It made me very self-conscience of any noise we might be making, if you catch my drift. Also, the room was spacious and had plenty of room to accommodate a mini-fridge or microwave, but it did not have either. I will say the included continental breakfast was excellent. We enjoyed hard boiled eggs, muffins, and yogurt parfaits at the Carriage House each moving, which was lovely. We had a great stay, but it is still not my favorite lodging on the Island, especially for the price.

We booked a double queen lakefront room on Hotel Iroquois' Getaway Special, which included a $50 credit at their fabulous Carriage restaurant. Previously we had stayed at the Grand Hotel 9 times. The Grand has been sold and their prices greatly increased. We had the same upscale experience at the Iroquois, plus we were right on the water and right downtown. Continental breakfast which included eggs, fruit, yogurt, granola, croissants, coffee cake included in the room was served in the Carriage restaurant which faces the lake. There is no elevator; you have to climb stairs. You're in someone's lakefront upscale cottage. The staff cannot do enough for you. Every night you get chocolates, just like at the Grand, and two bottles of water, which the Grand does not give you. This is now our Mackinac Hotel. The hotel will provide you with an iron and ironing board if you need it. They do give you bathrobes. There is a beach you can have picnics. Swimming is forbidden as it is the shipping channel. In front there is a outdoor patio for food and beverage service to watch the sunset.

We stayed in The Tower Suite which overlooks the harbor and beach. The view from this room is incredible people. It’s worth the money to wake up to that view. Watching the freighters go by is mesmerizing. This whole property is impeccably maintained. The building is very old and has tremendous charm. The staff here will bend over backwards to make your stay perfect. They have no elevators or cars so the porters gotta schlep your baggage all the way from the dock up to your room and back. David carried all of our groups luggage in one try which was industriously incredible. The porch and sitting rooms are spectacular as is the dock. This whole property is just magical. Our room was immaculate. The bed was very comfortable. The only tiny complaints I have would be that once the fudgies start shuffling off the boat they seem to gravitate to the little park adjacent to the hotel and screaming kids will wake you up if you don’t get up early. The windows also let in a lot of light even when closed so bring a sleep mask if you thrive in darkness. Overall this is an incredible property and you will not be disappointed if you stay here. The La Occitane verbena toiletries were a refreshing touch to start the day. I will definitely stay right here again and suggest you do the same.

We stayed at the Iroquois on May 11 and 12, 2021. We had stayed there twice pre-Covid and found it to be a very nice place with great close-up views of the harbor and Lake Huron. Although early in the season, the staff at last week's visit were knowledgeable and accommodating. Everyone was taking seriously the pandemic restrictions as were other guests. If any guest amenities had been suspended due to Covid, we did not notice. Daily room refreshing and turndown service were provided. Rooms are nicely furnished. The restaurant was not yet open for the season except for the complimentary continental breakfast. This breakfast was very light with only a few items available (coffee cake, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, juice and coffee). This is not an inexpensive place to stay, but worth the rate if you desire a quiet environment, very nice rooms, great views and a location very close to the docks and downtown area.

The hotel is beautiful; location perfects: view from our room breath-taking: front office staff not very friendly except Maddie • came for the Chicago to Mackinaw boat race and was given incorrect information at the time I made the reservation• Called 3 days before my arrival to ask regarding race and Susie, who I believe is the GM, asked if I wanted to modify my reservation• my comment to that was” our airline tickets are non refundable, we had arranged our time off from our jobs “ I then asked do you even have rooms available for a later arrival? To which she answered no!!!Her next statement was “ what do you want me to do?” I said there is nothing you can do, and said good bye. The entirety of my 4 days there nothing was said, no apology no nothing. Will never stay at Hotel Iroquois again.

We are from Texas and had never been to Mackinac Island, so picking a hotel was based on Trip Advisor recommendations and a bit of a guess. We were extremely happy with our stay at Hotel Iriquois. We walked off the ferry and the hotel was less than a block away. Even though it's in the central district, it's on the end and it has the feeling of being all by itself on the coast! The rooms were clean and the bathrooms nice. Bed was comfortable. The staff was very nice and we had room service every day. My favorite part of staying at this hotel was hearing the clomp, clomp of horses going by every day. It takes you back in time! There are sitting areas in the front, which we used and beautiful gardens in the back, which we didn't use due to it being a bit misty while we were there (wet). A couple of other bits of advice: We were there Aug 25 and 26 and by the time we got there the crowds had waned, which was kind of nice. Bike rentals are a block away. If you have trouble climbing stairs try to get a room on the first or second floor, we had to climb 2 flights of stairs to get to our room and they are narrow and high, I was always out of breath at the top. The hotel restaurant is great for the free breakfast and makes the stay more worth the price. I would not recommend the hotel restaurant for dinner, though, it's expensive and portions are small. My husband paid $47 for a seafood pasta that looked like an appetizer. Why they wouldn't add a bit of pasta to make it more substantial (which would cost pennies) I don't understand. We would stay here again and would recommend to friends.
