Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Clean rooms, very quiet, nice view, close to restaurants. We ate at The Den just across the street. Excellent food. Great swimming pool & hottub, but the sauna wasn't working. Free Breakfast was delicious. Close to many parks & places to see. We went to Bond Falls after our stay.

OMG, first off, the front desk ladies are awesome, gave us alot of information on local things to do as well as Cooper Harbor. Cookies in lobby, clean rooms, nice size tv. Breakfast was awesome, hot items, the lady working kept it well stocked both day we stayed. Worse thing I can say about it is the small in room toliets, I mean really small and short.

We stayed here last week and enjoyed our stay. The location is fantastic as you are within walking distance of everything downtown. The hotel is older, but clean and the staff were great. It is kind of a weird set up as you can’t get to your rooms from the lobby, but that was not that big a deal. Overall I would recommend this as a great place to stay in Houghton.

We stayed in room 204. It has a bright light outside the window on the walkway and only sheers on the window so it was bright in our room all night and anyone could look in. There was a used bar of soap in our shower. On the plus side, it was close to bars and restaurants that we could walk to

Pros: - good location, walking distance to everything - comfortable beds and adequate pillows - room was adequately clean - Working furnace and AC unit - fast check-in - good complimentary continental breakfast with hot food such as sausage, eggs and waffles Cons- -extremely limited parking lot on a very busy street. Those with trailers/snowmobile‘s would have a difficult time. I can’t imagine it with a lot of snow. -Hotel is very spread out and we had to walk across the parking lot to get to the elevator to reach our room. -The pool and hot tub were very dirty looking, green appearing. -Sauna shut down - extra charges placed on credit card (such as fees for the safe in the room), that only can be removed if you check out in person and specifically ask for the fees to be removed. I’m not a fan of these shady ways to scam a few dollars…

The reason why I give this hotel 3 stars out of 5 is because of the most bizarre parking and entrance set up. Hotel is located on the hill, the front entrance will not gain you access to your room if you are on the 5th or 6th floor. There is no elevator to take you to those rooms. So, if you have more luggage than you can grab with your two hands you will be making multiple inconvenient trips. Cannot imagine anyone with any mobility issues or elderly navigating through this bizarre set up.There is parking behind the hotel to make it easier so at least your car can be closer to the back entrance and sort of closer to your room. But, you can’t park there overnight, or so I was told. So you have to move your car to the front of the hotel but there is not enough parking spaces for everyone. I grabbed last spot on a cold rainy evening. Rooms are ok, especially if you don’t plan on staying there a lot. I had a room with king size bed and it was comfortable. There was some suspicious stain on one of the couch cushions and more stains on the drapes. Windows don’t open but the view is nice overlooking Hancock across the water. I picked this hotel because I had some points which covered one night. Overall, I think to pay close to $250 a night for this hotel is too much.

Our group stayed at this hotel this past weekend. We had a total of 6 rooms for 3 nights each. The price was literally outrageous for the type of hotel. The rooms were outdated. You either had scalding water or lukewarm in the shower. The drains did not work in any of our rooms. Pool hours are inconvenient and not guest friendly. The Hot Tub smelled like dirty water. There is one table and 10 chairs in the entire pool area yet this hotel is 6 floors. It is built into a hill so you can not easily access your room if you are on the 4th or 6th floor. Breakfast was mediocre at best. They try but, just old food. Also the room seats maybe 20-25 people and no overflow option when it was full both mornings. It is amazing to me that they know they cater to snowmobilers but, are very misleading about where you can park. Most of our stay was jockeying around our vehicles and walking up steep hills just to get to the hotel because they do not have enough parking for vehicles let alone your trailers, snowmobiles, or cars. We were told to park under the bridge but, there was nowhere to park. So we parked up top with our trailers and the front desk called and said that we needed to move our trailers or they would be forced to call a tow truck. Thought that was a little harsh considering there was no place to move them to. Complaints to the front desk staff were like talking to walls. Our keys did not work more times than not. We collectively spent over $8000 at this hotel and felt ripped off. The walls are super thin so you can hear every conversation as well as the neighboring rooms taking showers. Additionally, the door jam on our door was loose like someone tried to break in so we had to slam our door shut to make sure it stayed shut. They keep it a secret that you have to request service by 8 am. I tried one morning at 8:10 but, they would not agree to give us service. I now know why this was the only hotel left in Houghton to book. Super convenient to go to bars and restaurants but, not to get to your own room! If you are a snowmobiler think twice before you book.

Different, like the U P is to the rest of America. That's OK. Friendly staff, room was clean enough, semi updated and on the top floor so I had a great view of the canal and Houghton and Hancock, beautiful country up here. The motel itself is a patchwork of buildings, ramps, and staircases that are all connected and everything is enclosed, I couldn't imagine what it was like in winter before everything was enclosed and all walkways were open to the elements, it snows up here by the hour, think Seattle's rainy season but with snow! Anyways the place is right downtown and everything is compact and accessible in Houghton Hancock but you may want to be up here with four wheel drive in winter as allot of things are on steep hillsides including accessing some of the motels parking.

Just ok….pricey but hey, it’s the busy season. Slept well in the room but “breakfast” was sketchy at best. They couldn’t find smaller styrofoam cups for the coffee😡Room was comfy but bathroom was made for 1/2 of an adult. Cramped. Would look for other accommodations next time we’re in area.

Great location in downtown! I was apprehensive to book at first due to trailer parking, but it was only a block away and not inconvenient at all. I was incredibly impressed with the staff. The front desk personnel were all top notch! The lady working the continental breakfast was absolutely the best ever. Hotel is slightly dated, and they layout is a little different, but that makes no difference to me. Everything was clean and well kept. Will most definitely stay again.
