Detailed Reviews
The good: The property has scenic chairlift, outdoor activities (at additional expense), pool and hot tub were not too crowded. Breakfast buffet (on the weekend only) was really good, staff were very nice, masked and food was yummy.
The bad: Both guests and some staff consider masks to be optional. The two baristas in Das Cafe had masks down while making drinks and ringing up customers on both mornings we were there. We saw housekeeping with masks partially down in the hallway (on their way to break room). Even the front desk staff member was repeatedly touching her mask when checking us in. This was in addition to several guests not wearing masks in shared areas throughout the hotel. When asked, the front desk staff and manager both admitted that it’s “50/50” and that they do not enforce the policy to maintain their personal safety vs. their potential to have negative interactions with (possibly belligerent) non compliant guests.
I reported all of this to the front desk manager, Nicole, this morning before we checked out. Ironically, her only offer to me was to offer to buy me coffee in Das Cafe! Haha. No thanks, I’ll pass!
Bottom line? Travel at your own risk. If you’re looking for a pandemic-safe stay, I wouldn’t recommend it. I’ll be back when COVID-19 is no longer an issue, as I think the property is worth it in “normal” circumstances. Too bad for me I paid full price for a sub-par experience and had no appropriate offer for compensation by management.

This review is for the Boyne Vacation at Grand Mountain Lodge. We traded into the lodge through Interval International and booked a 3 BR unit. Unfamiliar with the property we did not know we were trading into the Lodge and not separate condominiums.
The 3 BR is really 2 BR with one BR being bunk beds in a small room only feasible for children. The Bedrooms are all upstairs and share a full bath. There is also a bathroom with shower downstairs. We were glad there were just 4 adults and no kids. One bedroom has a king, the other a queen, and this room has no windows. Downstairs is the living room with fireplace, table for 4, pull out couch and large flat screen TV. Full kitchen in the corner including stove/oven and dishwasher. There were no kitchen linens or hot pads so asked for some and received more washcloths. Had to get dishwasher detergent from front desk. There was dawn soap and a scrub pad, pepper, no salt. Plenty of dishes and utensils, keurig coffee maker and a few pods to get started. There is a nice balcony with chairs off the living room, we looked out over the lake and countryside and were on the top, 3rd floor. Washing machines on each floor for a fee, no additional resort fees. Although disappointed the unit wasn’t larger for a 3 Bedroom unit and had no en-suite bathroom, we made it work and were comfortable.
We wish there was more of a welcome while checking in but all we received were our keys and directions to the elevator. No welcome package, resort amenities, eating establishment etc. We were basically on our own to figure it out.
On the plus side the staff were friendly wherever we went. The resort property is large and includes the chairlifts for skiing in winter, 2 golf courses, 2 pools and a connecting water park. Several private condominiums are spread out. The chairlift is free for guests and we enjoyed the view and walk down the hill several times.
We ate mainly at other small towns and in the unit but visited the Fouty Nine tavern for happy hour and ate their breakfast buffet one morning. Both were good and reasonably priced with friendly staff.
Resort was well located for exploring Northern Michigan especially this time of year with the leaves changing colors and being the off season, there were no crowds.
All in all a good week but may try a different resort if we decide to explore Northern Michigan again.

Visited the resort as a family and was very impressed. COVID was addressed and the policies were clear: offered hand sanitizer everywhere, contact less check in and out, one family per elevator ride. The buildings were beautiful and well maintained. The service throughout our stay was excellent. We tried several of the restaurants and the food was outstanding. We appreciated the family activity options and took advantage of the nightly fire pit and s'mores, chair lift rides, golf cart rental and the canoe/paddle board at Deer Lake. The lawn games were a little lacking - need more of them and to upgrade the equipment such as bags for cornhole. The lobby and hallways were very nice. Our room was large and clean, however the decor is a bit dated, as were the bathrooms. Overall a good experience, a great family resort, we would return.

We spent 4 nights in a 2-bedroom Zermatt Suite in the Mountain Grand Lodge . It was plenty of space for 5 of us (teens and adults). We had a full kitchen for any snacks and meals we wanted to do on our own. Staying in the Grand Lodge was very convenient to all the activities/restaurants and we are glad we chose it over a condo further from the village. For those desiring to run/walk, Deer Lake is about 5 miles there and back, and is highly recommended for good exercise (hills) and scenery.
During our stay we fell so in love with Forty Acres Tavern that we visited there 5 times during our stay (twice for dinner, twice for afternoon appetizers, and once for evening drinks). The food and service were excellent! The tavern had very organized take out services due to Covid 19 and lots of outside seating. Everyone there seemed so happy.
There is so much space for activities on the grounds at Boyne Resort. Our group played volleyball every day, another group organized a baseball game on the lawn. There were lots of lawn games available too. There are multiple pools and hot tubs. The resort never felt crowded. The only wait we had during our stay was for ice cream at Kilwins in the evening. Be sure to take the chair lift up the mountain (free for onsite guests) and check out the view. Our kids did the zip line and horse back riding on a previous stay when they were younger, but did not do any organized activities this time.
The indoor water park is a great rainy day option. Due to Covid 19, the water park was operating at 25% capacity, in 3 separate 3-hour shifts each day. 3 hours in an empty water park is more than enough time to enjoy the facility! No lines for the slides, and more available chairs than you can imagine. I wouldn't mind them keeping that schedule for the long term.
My only complaint is that the master bedroom of the Zermatt suite did not have any windows. That was odd, but made sleeping in very easy, as we had no idea when the sun came up!
We stayed at another Northern Michigan resort for the other 4 days of our vacation and our whole group of 14 preferred Boyne Mountain. We can't wait to go back!

This is the second time our family has been to Boyne Mountain Resort. We have stayed in the Disciples Ridge Condo twice. What a difference that five years make. This last condo was very disappointing. The entire condo needs renovation, the bathroom ceiling had mold ,the tile was yellow, the walls definitely need paint. the blinds were filthy and food spattered. The list goes on. On the positive side the bed and pillows were very comfortable and there were always an abundance of bath towels. Sorry Boyne I will not be booking with you again.

Fantastic resort. Staff was helpful, attentive, and easy going. We stayed in Creekside condos, easy on and off the slopes from 9-4:30 daily. Kids enjoyed a day at the water park, hubby and I enjoyed a afternoon at the spa. Kids loved their day at ski school. It’s a great family location.
Only piece of advice. Many of the condos aren’t in as good of shape as the one we stayed in...be careful about the accommodations you select, some of the condos haven’t been kept up and you could be disappointed when you realize the condo looks nothing like the pics online.

This was our second visit to Boyne Mountain Resort and we stayed in the main building. Check in person we initially saw wasnt very helpful, but luckily she was the only staff member who was that way. We had adjoining rooms with another couple, rooms 184 and 186. Room 184 had a kitchenette area (no microwave which wasn't an issue), table and two chairs, tea/coffee making facilities, fridge, glasses and mugs (no plates etc). Two queen size beds, plenty of storage space, iron and ironing board, TV. Bathroom with hairdryer, Toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, body lotion and soap), plenty of towels. Bathroom showed signs of damp and peeling paint. Nice powerful shower. Window overlooking pond. Adjoining room 186 had one king bed, sofa, table and chairs, TV, plenty of storage space, kitchenette with crockery, coffee maker and microwave. Also had a balcony (1st/ground floor if you're from UK) with table and two chairs.
Resort itself has a coffee shop in main building, spa and shop (very pricey!). There is a waterpark (not used), library. At the Resort there was a Kilwins ice cream parlour but sadly its gone, and a souvenir shop is in its place. There is a pricey deli which sells ice cream. There are other sportswear shops. There are activities for the kids, and lawn games like cornhole for all ages. Trophy room pizza place is very good as is the service. There is another pub called forty acres, which seemed a bit pricey but portions were good. Service also good.
Everetts is the main restaurant but sadly it was closed some lunchtime and evenings due to staff shortages, which seems to be a Nationwide issue. Breakfast was available in Everetts every day and approx $20 for a buffet help yourself breakfast. Good value as so much choice! Pancake and omelette station, which were really good. Toast, muffins, pastries, waffles, Cereals, fresh fruit, fresh salmon, bacon, sausage, eggs and much more!
The indoor/outdoor pool was nice, with sunbeds and plenty of towels. Two different sized Jacuzzis. Water was warm.
There is a zip liner which we disnt use. We did go on the (free) cable car to the top for some amazing views and walks. We walked to the golf course, but there are teails you can follow. We saw the new suspension bridge being built too.
I would definitely return. Only reason for 4 stars not 5, is that the shops are over priced and room needed a little TLC (although clean).

One day before we were to arrived at the Grand Lodge they texted and stated the main pool and spa were closed for repairs. Maybe they knew this a week before so we could change our reservation? No. Information at desk was vague. Was told to use pool at clock tower.
Asked about breakfast being included and was told no. Dinner was crappy, over priced. Housekeeping knocked on our door the next morning at 9AM and we told her we'd be gone in 20 minutes, We went ahead with the day and returned at 6:00pm to find our room had not been cleaned, dirty dishes still sitting on table, no clean towels or bed made. Went to desk to complain and they said towels would be sent to room. An hour later we returned to the room and the clean towels were in a plastic bag on the floor and four clean glasses wrapped in a plastic bag sitting on the table. Nothing else was touched. And breakfast the next morning was so so and expensive. Over $60.00 to eat breakfast for two. I put the bill on my charge. When checkout came I read my statement and asked about the $60.00 charge and then I was told breakfast was included and that they would remove the $60.00. I will not return and certainly not recommend. My only other comment is that there was a large group of young teen age boys at the pool and they were DIVING into 4 feet of water, having fun, but waiting for an accident to happen. No supervision at the pool. Language in the pool was not for little ears. Scary!

We came for a long weekend in August. It was our first stay and we didn’t really know what to expect. Having said that, we were pleasantly surprised and the resort really exceeded our expectations.
Sure, the rooms were a bit dated and the rooms as well as the hotel shows a little wear and tear but it’s a family resort and a ski lodge in the winter and i think that’s what you get.
The room was good enough and reasonable for what we paid during peak summer vacation time. We had plenty of space and the kids loved the bunk beds and their clubhouse style room. As far as we were concerned, the rooms were just a place to sleep and change between resort activities.
The food at Everett’s was better than we expected although somewhat expensive - but probably not for a resort.
Where the resort really exceeded expectations was with their activities. There was a nice big lawn behind the lodge with plenty of space and games available for the kids. The fire pit and S’mores at night was a hit.
Beyond that, there is something for everyone and for all ages.
Our kids loved the scenic golf cart trip and the water park.
The staff was friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome.
The two areas that i would highlight for improvement would be the Covid protocols and the wifi.
As it relates to covid, no one (guests or staff) wore masks even though most counties were experiencing increased cases due to the Delta variant. There were also few, if any, outdoor dining options even though all of the restaurants appeared to have tables outside. However, the staff was very accommodating in finding us tables that were reasonably distanced from other guests.
Finally, i know that you come to a resort like this is disconnect a bit but the wifi service could be better

The grounds are beautiful and well cared for. My family had a ton of fun at the indoor waterpark and didn't want to leave the arcade. Our rooms smelled fresh, were very clean, and the bathroom was actually nice! I suggest purchasing the breakfast because it's definitely worth it. There are always fresh fruit (berries, melonies, pineapple, and more), baked pastries, bagels or bread for you to toast, breakfast potatoes, waffles, cheese crepes, scrambled eggs, cereal, and waffles... then there's a pancake and omelette station where everything's made to order and you can add your toppings (and there are many options). I have to say, one of the best parts of our stay was the staff!! The staff is extremely helpful and polite - everyone was wonderful. Our housekeeping staff always gave us a warm greeting when we would cross paths, the wait staff made excellent suggestions and never made us feel like we were bothering them. Even the ladies in the stores went above and beyond to make sure we were good. When my son almost requested a girl hat, the staff member there warmly suggested looking at more options at the store around the corner. When we made our purchase (at the 2nd store), she could tell my son was excited and offered to clip the tags and remove the stickers. We have already booked our trip for next year
