Dick and Nancy were fabulous hosts and took very good care of us on our one-night birthday stay. The accomodations were comfortable and the decor very Victorian and romantic! We wish we could have stayed longer and will definitely return, hopefully for two nights!

We stayed for for the second time at the Penrose. This time we were in the Painted Lady Room. There were lots of nice touches like plenty of light to read by and plenty of hangers for my clothes. The bathroom was enormous. The bed was extremely comfortable. The entire Inn is decorated beautifully with a mixture of antiques, collectibles,...

The Penrose is a lovely home in every way. We had a bright sunny spacious room in beautiful surroundings (The Eleanor Purrington room) with a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was delicious and our innkeepers were extremely gracious then and during the entire stay. Northhampton was an easy 10 minutes away with many great restaurants and unique places to visit and...

The hosts made us feel so welcome! They cook a beautiful breakfast each morning. The rooms are large and beautiful, with very comfortable beds, and large updated bathrooms. We loved that the Inn was out in the country but just a 10 minute drive to Northampton with great restaurants and shopping, and close to the 5 colleges. We usually stay...

This was a brilliant find, we loved it. We received a great welcome from Dick and Nancy, nothing was too much trouble for them and we loved being immersed in the whole Victorian ambiance. Being from the UK we are very used to visiting Victorian houses, but we can usually only look and not touch. At the Penrose, we were...

If you need a place to stay in the Amherst/Northampton area this is the place. The hosts are very accommodating and the bed is so comfortable (bridal suite) you will never want to leave. Definitely give this place a try if you are in the area.

It was one of the best bed and breakfasts that we have stayed at. The food was tasty and custom tailored to each guest (e.g. what other ingredients you want in an omelet). Most all was homemade. Breakfast was within a two hour range and they would check with you the night before when you would want it and cook...

They have achieved a family-welcoming atmosphere in the environment of a quaint and lovely Victorian home. The hosts along with their furry friends, player piano, and Victorian furnishings make this an unforgettable experience.

If you like all things Victorian, you will be at home here. Another reviewer mentioned "meticulous attention to detail," and I couldn't agree more. Everywhere you look, there are Victorian appointments, from little laced boots filled with flowers to ornate, fringed lampshades, to ruffled quilts and pillows. The porch is beautiful. Everything was very clean. Breakfast was personalized and delicious...

The Penrose is well-maintained and immaculate. The beds are really comfortable and the bedding similar to that which is found in any 4 star hotel. But it is Dick and Nancy who make the stay special. They open their home, share their hospitality and offer guidance and suggestions when asked. They changed my mind about the bed and breakfast experience...

“All of the rooms are very lovely but not suited for young children. Definitely a more adult oriented B&B.”

“We enjoyed the Brides Room, which has a connected bath with a shower. (Not all bathrooms are connected or have showers.)”

“We were in the bridal suite, and the morning sun was definitely a wake up call. While we looked in the other rooms, and they seemed to be as big and as nice as ours. All of the rooms and bathrooms were large, and the B&B is in a very quiet area, so the only noise that might wake you is the birds greeting the morning.”

“Brides Room has a walk in shower, Painted Lady Room has a claw foot tub, Lady Purrington Room has bath with claw foot tub across the hall. All rooms have beautiful Amish quilts on the beds.”
monap883, 10 Aug 2014 | Read review
“Bride's Room and Painted Lady have connected bathrooms; Eleanor Purrington Room has private bath across the hallway. All have in-window A/C that help keep the temperature more constant than the open windows and can help to provide white noise if you're sensitive to noise (such as from the nearby road or from neighbors). Also note that all rooms are upstairs and there is no elevator, so this is not a suitable accommodation for those with mobility problems.”
