Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our gym class held our end of year function here and were fortunate to have a room to ourselves. Two long tables were set nicely with some Christmas decorations and we also had table service. I had a d3licious meal of roast lamb and veg with m8nt jelly. Being Coeliac I requested no gravy but was pleasantly surprised when the chef had added a jus, just lovely. Meat was plentiful, well cooked and sliced nice and thinly. Everyone else expressed favour with tneir meals. One negative was that one tables had to wait longer than the other for their meals. The Manager indicated that will be reviewed when I spoke to him the next day. I'd definately return, with the knowledge that if I didn't want any of the specially marked gluten free items, a modification could be possible.

We went back to the Pine Grove Hotel after many visits - this time for a Birthday celebration. It was a Sunday and therefore the Carvery was available. We had a table of 14 people and only three of the people attending opted for this choice. The rest of us ordered and then sat and sat and sat. Eventually I put up my hand and hailed our waitress and asked when we could expect our lunches. My grandson, who was turning 13 the following Wednesday, gave me a high five for asking the question! Apparently one person at our table had ordered a rib eye and they blamed that order for the delay - they had held all the other meals over waiting for it to be prepared, which wouldn't have taken the hour we waited. Accordingly, the chicken parma my husband had ordered was just warm and served on a mountain of chips. The reason he didn't complain was that he didn't want to wait another hour for a replacement. I ordered the fish and chips which were, once again, served with a mountain of chips. What a waste of potatoes. The fish was reasonable although the batter was too thick and I just squeezed the fish out and ate that.

Beverage prices are over the top as well - definitely city wine bar prices and not country hotel as expected. Go with full wallets.

It was a disappointment overall as we have always been delighted with the Pine Grove Hotel over the years - so much so that we held our youngest Daughter's wedding there.
Surfing on years and years of goodwill - I would suggest they look at their best practices and change a few things in the kitchen and restaurant for future clients please.

We won't welcome any invitations back there in future and will suggest other venues to local families.

Took mum to catch up with some old friends for an early Xmas catch up- the senior meals were large and $18 -one course only, fine for us younger oldies but no so for the 80+ which my mums friends are, they like to have their sweets and at $12 this makes it an expensive lunch for a pensioner.
The staff were friendly, however the meals didn't come out in any order of placing them just in groups of food-ie All the fish n chips, all the lambs fry and bacon etc.
Mum likes her lambs fry the old way in pieces not sliced and found the edges very dry,
my parma was great. salad as with everywhere these days heaps of lettuce and not much else.

We checked in and noted that the staff were very polite and obliging. The room, although small was well appointed and the bed very comfortable. We then met the hotel manager and he raised the bar on being 'Mein Host'. Overall, I can not praise the staff highly enough on their friendliness and professionalism. We had dinner which was somewhat marred by a family with a very problematic child (sympathise with the parents) and the waitress went above and beyond the call of duty in helping to placate the child. Could not fault the level of care and service.

So disappointed! We are locals, and will not go here again. This is the second time our order has been “lost”. And had to wait an hour for meals, with 6 kids! Not good enough....waitress Bec was excellent and tried to make situation better, but we will in future go to other local dining venues.

Absolutely disgraceful service. Waited an 1 1/2 for no meal to arrive. No apologies or care. Staff walking around with heads in the air. Never again. Pathetic. This place used to be awesome. Not so now

Nine of us turned up for a double birthday lunch. Booked an outside table to "enjoy the view" of the vineyard. Somewhat spoiled by the concrete mixer out side. Unfortunate but not devastating.
My daughter and granddaughter went to the counter to order our meals. Despite being only third in the queue, it took 35 minutes. Annoying but not unprecedented.
When our entrées of garlic pizza and bruschetta were eventually ready, the waitress wandered round from table to table to find out who had ordered them. Inefficient but not a deal breaker. It was then that we realised that we had not napkins. My son in law went off and managed to find ONE ONLY. This we tore up to share amongst us. The garlic pizza resembled thin, dried up cardboard with a bit of melted margarine brushed on it. Couln't taste any garlic.
In anticipation of our main courses turning up within a couple of hours, my son in law went off to find some cutlery and perhaps even an odd napkin or two. He returned with a box containing some of the required items.
Whilst my wife was distributing this amongst our family a man who had been eating at a nearby came over and told us we didn't need the box of utensils. When we said we did, he declared that he was the owner and he was taking them.
During the conversation between he and my daughter he "shirt fronted" her, pushed her on the shoulder and told her to F... off.
That was the final straw. We approached the poor suffering staff member Naomi, who was very apologetic and refunded us our money.
Over the last twenty years or so we have, on several occasions, given this place the benefit of the doubt after a bad experience and returned. Each time the experience was worse than the last.
THEY WON'T SEE US EVER AGAIN.

Despite the late time, the Cardinia Pub down the road thankfully accommodated us and we had great service and a hearty pub meal.
In fact, the waitress told me that we were the third party of diners who had walked out of the other place and come to them, that week alone. And that's only the ones that bothered to mention it.
