Affogato to die for as was garlic cream prawns as main. Tried mushroom bruschetta and great way to spend the evening meal. Free camping in back yard and great hosts. Shame it’s so far from warrnambool but worth the stopover

A warm and welcoming country pub situated right on the highway about 2 hours from Adelaide. Great food, accommodation, friendly staff and deliciously cold beer! Home of the Painted Coonalpyn Silos which can be found just down the road. Only 37 minutes down the highway to The Bend Motorsport Park Pub Camping out the back - set up anywhere on the grass area and pop in to see us for a chat, a drink or a delicious and generously sized meal.

Coonalpyn Hotel is not four or five star but for a basic overnight stay it is exceptionally good value for money. We had dinner, stayed overnight, and breakfast (included in the tariff). The meals were great and while the accomm is being renovated, it still offers a comfortable bed and hot shower - not too noisy either despite it being adjacent to a busy highway. The outstanding feature of this friendly country pub though is the wonderful staff. Great for a yarn, a smile, and a reason to come back. We will !

Great staff and owners, delicious menu and overall a great country pub!
We were kindly donated a room for the night as my partner was on his charity walk from Ballarat to South Australia.
If you want the small community/country pub then definitely go here! Love it and highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We had a lovely stay in Coonalpyn. Our hosts were extremely friendly and made my kids and I feel welcome.

The house poodle Zeus was a big hit. But the standout were the restaurant meals. Traditional pub food with a modern twist. Very high quality that saw my kids asking if we could come just for dinner on our return trip to Victoria.

The rooms are basic, clean and tidy. Everything in Coonalpyn is close to the highway, but we didn’t have any issue with noise.

A minor renovation is underway, which may explain the lack of a mirror in our bathroom.

We were just looking for a safe place to break up our journey and instead we found a friendly oasis. We will stay again.

Make sure you eat in the restaurant. But save room for Waffles next door!

My husband nick-named this hotel, the 'Serial Killer Hotel'! Was a shocking stay! Room had raw timber floors that were filthy. The smallest bed that my husband did not fit into! No fridge and as we were road tripping, there was nowhere to keep our supplies in over night and re-freeze our icepacks. The whole place was filthy, dusty and cobwebs in the corners. The smoke detector was just hanging wires from the roof! Make matters worse, people were thumping in and out of the accommodation from 5am and on timber floors, woke up up constantly. No remote control for the TV so absolutely nothing to do and not even able to watch the footy on the TV. Staff were not very helpful at all when we asked for a remote to operate the TV. Everything just seemed like too much effort. Ultimately I would give this place 0 stars if I could, it was just awful!

People recommended the food at the hotel, sadly, it took 1hr and 15 minutes to get 2 burgers that really were very ordinary and nothing special. My chicken burger had been deep fried within an inch of its life and was like eating a timber plank between two pieces of bread. Not good at all!

We stayed free for 2 nights in our caravan, which we parked on the grass area behind the hotel. The only cost? A delicious meal in the hotel, with fresh from the garden veggies and everything cooked to perfection. The staff are also really lovely. Absolutely recommend even if just driving through.

The thing that impressed me most was the easy-going, friendly and community minded atmosphere of both the staff and guests. Yeah, sure the rooms are a little tired, but very clean and comfortable, my meal fresh and quickly prepared but it really was the laid back vibe of the place that impressed me most.

What to say here, yes we did receive a warm welcome here when we arrived for an overnight stay and we had let them know on booking, that we would be needing an evening meal. The meal of chicken schnitzel with chips and salad was a beautifully cooked, large meal and very satisfying, we really enjoyed it. The room however was every dated, very small, very hot and stuffy, very small bathroom with poor water pressure. This hotel is on the Dukes Highway so unfortunately the road noise in unavoidable and we found that the trucks travel all night long. Old hotels can have great charm but this one could have been cleaner....

We normally break the Melbourne to Adelaide journey in Keith, but this time decided to try the Coonalpyn Hotel, and it was a wise decision. The pub is somewhat retro, and the rooms are basic....but still very comfortable.

We dined in the hotel dining room and while the food is not grand cuisine, it was still exceptional value for money and wholesome. The dining room had a wonderful open fire, as did the lounge - very welcome as the temp was around the 8 deg C - and there are comfortable sofas to sit on, plus quality magazines to read.

The owner, AJ, and his partner, Georgie, made us feel instantly at home.

The tariff is $80 inc breakfast, and I doubt if you will find better for the money anywhere in South Australia. We will always use this stopover Coonalpyn pub in future!

Driving between Adelaide and Melbourne this hotel makes a great stop. The hotel's decor is retro at its finest. Thankfully its not renovated.
The owners are a delight even sliced some fresh lemon for our take away drinks and added a scoop of ice for our esky. The food was fresh and tasty at a realistic price.
Didn't sleep here but the rooms were budget and going on the rest of the place would no doubt have a certain charm.

Room $80 with continental breakfast in morning (toast and cereal)
For Dinner we had:
Pork Medallions with salad & chips $18
Beef Schnitzel with plain gravy ½ serve salad & chips $15
Glass Lemon Squash $3.00 and Glass Coke $3.00
Total $119

Dinner was pleasant, pork and schnitzel were cooked nicely, and had a nice flavor. Also came with hot bread rolls - always a nice addition

Room 5 – at end of hallway.
Room has queen? size bed (2 soft pillows per person), flat screen 22” tv, small table to put laptop on, wardrobe, chest of drawers and table with one chair. Sufficient lighting and powerpoints. Smells like air freshener. Room is clean and neat, but noisy with trucks going by. Take away the trucks, and it would be very quiet, as walls are very thick.

Bathroom is squeezy, knees touch hand basin when sitting on toilet. You wouldn’t want to be too tall, or overweight. Toilet leaks leaving a small puddle on the floor.

No fridge. They provide made-up bed, two soaps and two towels.

Older style of room, but carpet in good condition and room not showing too much wear and tear. Room is a tad on the smaller size, but compared to some hotels in London/San Francisco I've stayed in, room is a good size !! Depends what you're comparing it to.

I'd suggest bringing as little inside the room - just what you need for the night.

All rooms accessed via an indoor hallway - enter through hotel main doors.

One reviewer said "secure off street parking" - not sure where they parked - we parked outside the front of the hotel.

For the type of accommodation it is, it's very good. It needs to be compared to hotels of a similar style and era.
