I was looking for an inexpensive place to lay our heads for a few hours as we were en route from Boston to Maine. Even by the standards of Boston and environs, $135 didn't qualify as inexpensive, not for this place. First the positive: The motel offers plenty of parking. But our room had no amenities--not even a cheap little coffee maker. Bare bones, bare threads on the towels. We arrived very late and went to sleep. Upon waking and looking around, I realized this place, inside and out, was downright seedy.
The room was dirty. The toilet seat broken, the towels were so gross we couldn’t use them. This is by a long shot, the worst place I have ever stayed in. To top it off, the couple next to us had 3 children and fought all evening. We asked to be moved and the desk person refused.
We were desperate but I had no idea as I saw they were a two star on price line. If you've got kids - not even if desperate. Your car is better. Unsafe clients, dirty, electrical gave sparks and smoke when I tried to plug in my phone charger. LOCK the door, and get out asap.
We stayed here in 2017 when we added a day to our trip. Seemed decent enough but very basic. Fast forward to 2018. We decided to visit Salem and Boston again for 2 weeks. Figured we’d save money and omit the Hawthorne. We booked 5 mos in advance a room they advertised like a suite with 3 queen beds. We get there late at night exhausted from a long drive to be told that room isn’t available. That it had flooded and was being renoed and didn’t exist right now. Nobody called us of course ahead of time. Tried to put us in two rooms and charge us double what the room we had booked was! It was filthy and had drug needles under the bed! It was good enough for a super cheap room 2 years ago... now? It’s disgusting! The desk clerk was rude. I was told by housekeeping there was a 3 bed and that when Salem filled up as it was tourist time (October) that they gouged someone else for more $ and gave them our room. Please Don’t waste your money here. It felt unsafe also. …
We had 2 rooms, booked one with a couch didn't get that got a double bed, son had to sleep on floor they would not give another room or a rollaway, my daughters room she had 2 infants with her were woken up to a rat in the room.... Will never stay there again and would recommend no one else to stay either and they blamed the rat on her as they said they left the door open and it must have come in that way..
