Our love for skiing and food plus a trustworthy recommendation by a friend brought us to Great Barrington and the Briarcliff Motel. We just finished our second weekend getaway at the Briarcliff. We are hooked! Clare and Richard provide the perfect experience - from a warm greeting at check-in to a clean, stylish room to a perfect breakfast (that granola!...

The Briarcliff Motel is not luxurious, but every aspect of our stay was enjoyable. We did a Midweek Ski & Stay package, which included ski tickets for two to the Butternut Ski resort, along with the room and breakfast, for just $110/night. The room was comfortable and clean, the service was excellent, and we appreciated the excellent free movies. The...

Clare and Richard have created a real gem in the Briarcliff Motel. They cleverly renovated and redecorated the space, making it cozy and contemporary all at once. In addition, they are committed to exceptional customer service. We felt at home from the minute we arrived. For those in Boston or NYC looking for a weekend getaway in the Berkshires, look...

We dropped in for a night during a ski trip and liked the place so much we decided to stay an extra night. The layout is classic old school drive up to your front door strip motel style, but they've been done up really nicely and there's thoughtful / tasteful touches everywhere. The bathroom was modern and the beds very...

We felt at home the minute we opened the door to our cozy and cheerful room--after driving hours through a cold icy night. And we do each time we stay here. We can count on sleeping like babies on the comfy beds, and enjoying the hot showers. The rooms are clean and decorated with imagination. The outstanding breakfast generally consists...

My family feels like we've scored this winter having found the Briarcliff. We've stayed multiple times and love the warm, tasteful and communal touches that it offers. To us, Clare and Richard have truly redefined the meaning of "motel".

We spend every winter weekend at the Briarcliff because of the easy access to Butternut. We're big fans. The breakfast is wonderful. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The owners and the fellow guests are all really nice and down to earth. Highly recommend.

My son and I stayed there last year while skiing in the area. Our room was an end unit, and it was freezing. We were offered extra blankets and a portable heater, but the fact of the matter was that we were freezing. The owners were accommodating, but I wouldn't stay in an end unit again

We take all feedback to heart, including the bad stuff, but I hope you can appreciate that it’s very difficult to respond to your review when five or six hundred people have stayed in that room without problem or complaint since the time of your visit to us a year ago. In the interests of science, I strolled down to...

I walked into the adorable office with it's trendy fridge and benched seating areas (3 of them). I stayed one night with my young boys. The room was small but sufficient and very clean. There is a small hill behind the building that could have been a great sledding hill if there had been more snow. The fire pit with...

The hipster ski-bum renovation of this 60s-era motel is largely successful. The breakfast (homemade scones, muffins, granola) is excellent, and the price for the location can't be beat. That said, a little more attention to the room amenities (not enough outlets for electrical, one-ply toilet paper, really?) would help.

Thanks for the nice review. We never really thought of ourselves as hipster ski-bums before, but I guess we'll take it? We're working on the outlet thing all the time: it's hard to keep up with the sheer number of gadgets that most people - including ourselves - travel with these days. Laptop each, phone each, iPad, iPod, that thing...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
New English owners Clare & Richard Proctor have turned this classic 1960 motor lodge, with its spectacular view of Monument Mountain, into a cool 21st century b&b. We offer great value, clean comfortable rooms with a stylish edge, free wifi, a home-made breakfast of scones, muffins and granola with locally-roasted coffee, and a warm welcome. Chill out on the deck in summer, or by the stove in our guest lounge in winter. We are five minutes from Great Barrington and Stockbridge, and under 15 from Tanglewood. ... more   less
