My wife and I stayed at this hotel in Launceston for two nights in December on the fourth leg of our Tasmania road trip. We arrived just after midday and we were delighted that our room was available to use. We received a warm welcome from the reception staff - check in was slick and in no time we were in our sixth floor room which had an oblique view of the river.

We had a large room. There was a king sized bed provided with the standard duvet and pillows. It was a comfortable bed with a supportive mattress. There were dark out curtains which did a great job in excluding the light from the large window. Fortunately there was a safe, although I somehow managed to make a mess of the programming so I had to summon help to resolve the issue. This was done in a timely fashion with good grace and humour. It was helpful to have a kettle with a range of hot drinks available. There was a Nespresso capsule machine. We found the room to be easy to keep at a comfortable temperature by using the air conditioning. There was also a day bed which would accommodate a third person sharing the room. It would have been good to have had an arm chair to sit and read - there was plenty of room available. The bathroom was spacious, comprising a shower cubicle, sink and toilet. We couldn’t get the wash basin to retain water so we had to make our own arrangements when it came to having a shave. The shower was sufficiently powerful, having both a standard and a rainfall head. There was plenty of storage available with wardrobe and two drawers in the bedroom. When we came back from a day out we found all the lights on and the television. In these times of climate consciousness, this doesn’t seem like a good use of energy. A special word must go to the staff members who helped with our luggage. On both occasions this was done with great efficiency, and the two people concerned were extremely personable.

We didn’t eat at the hotel, preferring to book tables for dinner in nearby restaurants across the footbridge.

We were glad to have stayed in this modern and stylish hotel. Its location made it ideal to explore the Tamar valley. It was easy to park right in front of the hotel on the two times we left our car. There was also additional parking available across the road, and under cover parking beneath the hotel for a small daily charge.

We booked the Peppers Silo for a brief getaway to Launceston to check out the food and wine scene. Arriving from the airport we were checked in with a friendly but efficient manner and offered some tips about the area and what it had to offer. It is worth noting that when we made the booking we had requested a room away from lifts . A reservation staff member called to let us know the room we booked was next to the lifts and also to let us know it had views of the car park and some of the Tamar. He was right :While the new add on built room was very spacious and offered an excellent bath room and leather lounge and was perfectly air- conditioned it faced a large car park and also some very derelict commercial building and caravan squatters close to the kings Warf : Unsightly to say the least. I would book a room on the Silo side next time .
The room was well appointed with Excellent bedding, lovely amenities and a complimentary bottle of Tassie Pinot Noir and some chocolates in recognition of our Accor Platinum status.
The amazing range of food and drink sourced from Tasmania in the mini-bar, was a credit to the management in bringing these to be appreciated by those wanting to discover the UNESCO 'Gastronomic City" .

Breakfast is A la Carte and is exceptional as was the 2 dinners we had at the Grains of the Silo Restaurant. I would place this as an exceptional place to eat with a wonderful relaxed ambiance watching the sun set over the Tamar but with food that lives up to its claim of paddock to plate freshness. please see my detailed review. The Staff are efficient, polite and friendly. The Chefs working in an open kitchen appear incredibly calm for the number of plates they produce !

There is an abundance of parking outdoors but also paid secure parking for $15 per night.
I think a rental car is a must to really see it all. Given the public holiday we did find some of the wineries we wanted to visit were closed.

The Peppers Silos is a 4 star punching well above its weight and delivering 5 star quality on many fronts, comfort, food and staff service. This is always a sign of excellent higher management. Thank you.

We have had a wonderful stay at Peppers Silos Hotel in Launceston having spent a few days over Christmas with family and friends in the North of the State. This is our second stay at this beautifully appointed hotel and one we will be returning to each time we visit Launceston.

Our arrival at reception was very welcoming. It is always so nice to be greeted a smile when checking in. Parking for guests is offered in the undercover parking which is very convenient.

Our room on the seventh floor with large windows overlooking the Tamar was spectacular and we very much appreciated the choice of room we were offered.
The welcome gift of chocolates and Devil's Corner wine as ACCOR Plus members was a lovely surprise and very much appreciated and enjoyed.

The room itself is beautifully appointed and makes excellent use of the iconic silos that now house the hotel. A very clever and creative design. The bed was excellent and the bathroom spacious and well appointed.

We had drinks in the lounge area on the first floor before dinner at the Grain restaurant with friends. The menu was extensive and the food absolutely perfect. The dining experience at Grain restaurant was made even more special with the lovely staff who looked after us so warmly. A particular thank you to the lovely Jessie who attended to us throughout our meal. She was wonderful.

We enjoyed a very nice a la carte breakfast in the morning but were unaware that there was a rule that required us to make a booking. We were a little taken aback when asked if we had a reservation. There did appear to be a number of free tables so we were seated after a short wait with a reminder that in future reservations are expected. We will know for next time.

We think this may be a restaurant issue rather than the hotel although it might be helpful at check-in if guests were advised that reservations during high occupancy might be advised.

This was the only surprise we encountered during what has been a lovely stay at a beautiful hotel and we do appreciate that the hotel and restaurant work collaboratively in support of guests but may not necessarily be under the same management so any comments on the restaurant should be seen as separate from the hotel. Breakfast and dinner were both excellent

We look forward to a return visit the next time we are in Launceston visiting family. Thank you to the housekeeping staff, reception and all those who made our stay so pleasant.

We travelled all over Tasmania staying in hotels in each location and this hotel, Peppers Silo Hotel was definitely the worst hotel out of every hotel we stayed at. We stayed in the highest category room type, and it was very disappointing. The outlook is on to numerous airconditioning units below, and a large noisy kids playground and the river. In one section in the highest category of rooms you can hear the airconditioning plant operating below even though nothing is open. One big problem for this hotel is that the doors on each room make an extremely loud bang that can be heard all down the corridor. We also noticed that a tray with dirty room service items was left outside a door for 2 days, even though cleaners attend the floor corridors servicing rooms and turned a blind eye to the tray with no initiative to have it removed. The back of our curtains had black stains on them that looked like mould but could be dirt from the walls. The cleaning staff also removed personal items from our room a day before we had even checked out. Fortunately we saw our personal items on a trolley and retrieved them and when we reported this, there was no apology. We found this unacceptable. We also feel that the hotel were not forthcoming in informing us that they would be having a team of players on our floor. The team of players caused a disturbance every morning and night. They also dropped wrappers in the corridor and would sit in the corridor at one end on the chair and talk on the phone for hours in the evening with his feet up on a chair,. One night they were in one of the rooms and kept our friends up to very late at night. We feel that the hotel should have advised us that we would be mixed in on the same floor with the team of players so this could give us an opportunity to make an informed decision whether to stay or not. We also found that the restaurant cafe wasn't equipped to cater for the extra people and didn't have enough sandwiches, rolls etc at lunch time. We also ate at the restaurant and the lady with the short dark hair and glasses with tatoo on her ankle, was visibly unwell. She was blowing her nose, coughing and we thought it not fair that she serve and greet people whilst being visibly sick. She didn't wear a mask. This has the potential to pass on the illness to a traveller and spoil their holiday. Overall, this hotel should be half the price as you can hear people in the next room, you can hear plumbling, the doors have the largest bang in any hotel we have ever stayed in, the outlook even on the river side, isn't anything wonderful as there is a kids playground below, airconditiong plants, fairly ugly outlook.

Dear TarakayAustralia, Thank you for your feedback and for choosing to stay with us, views from the 8th floor take in vistas of three rivers meeting, the Tamar, South Esk and North Esk, views to the eastern ranges, city skyline, a large community park with grasslands all ages equipment. As part of our commitment to inclusive tourism and support of local events we did have a contingent of athletes stay with participating in the National Special Olympics here in Launceston, apologies if they disturbed you. We will be sure to check the curtains in the room, over time the concrete of the original silo wall does mark them and we have them on a rotation for checking. Apologies elements of your stay did not meet expectations, please don't hesitate to contact myself on silo.gm@peppers.com.au if i can be of any further assistance. Regards,

Stayed for one night while in Launceston for an event - the river view room was simple but clean enough. The views were not particularly exciting and primarily overlooked the hotel carpark.

Unfortunately there was nothing provided in the room (no bottled water, no slippers, no toothbrush/toothpaste etc), nor were they available upon request. This is particularly disappointing given the price point of over $400, which would've been enough to stay in most fully serviced 5 star hotel in any major Australian city.

This property may also not be suitable for light sleepers as there was constant creaking coming from the walls when trying to sleep, and my friend in another room had the same.

I didn't really look elsewhere but despite the above I'm not sure how many nicer properties there are in Launceston so it may still be the hotel of choice.

My wife and I visit Launceston several times a year, and often spend a few days at the Silo. Its a good place to spend a few days relaxing. We stay in one of the Gorge River Deluxe rooms whenever these are available. These are built into the original silos with a semicircular layout - lots of room, great views and a very good king size bed.

Foodwise, the breakfasts are great. Lunches and dinners however are a mixed affair. A strange selection of mostly upmarket food is on offer, which will please some folks, but there is a noticeable lack of variety in middle of the road basics such as pizza and pasta.

The biggest sin of all however if that although you can get shucked oysters in Woody's Barrel Bar - there are NO salted peanuts! This is a bar staple, sometimes even offered to customers free of charge by some hotels to make them thirsty enough to drink more. A very regrettable omission.

A word of caution about the room fridges; if you want do not want warm drinks you will need to leave the wooden door which conceals the fridge open. This is because the fridge is sealed into a small compartment behind the door, with no external ventilation. If the wooden door is closed, this small space gets very hot, which prevents the fridge from cooling its contents. This is a design error - the external door should really be fitted with upper and lower ventilation grills to ensure a flow of fresh air over the fridge's rear cooling fins.

As to hotel staff and services, we have always found everyone to be helpful and friendly. External parking is plentiful, both at the front of the hotel and in the overflow park just across the road, and we never worry about leaving our car there. There are no EV charging points at present however.

All in all, a good hotel in a nice location. A bonus for families with small children is Riverbend Park, which is next to the hotel. This is a very imaginatively designed and colourful adventure playground, and kids obviously love the place..

Fabulous architecture and well thought out design.

We booked a silo room and it was enormous- half a silo! It was quiet and comfortable and had all the trimmings, except a window that opens for fresh air.

Archie the resident black lab was a treat in the lobby, along with a complimentary drink.

Parking was a breeze, undercover was free (not paid as another review noted)

Grain breakfast was delicious and high quality produce with interesting options. The service was quite slow on a Sunday when the restaurant wasn’t full, but we were on go slow mode so didn’t mind.

Would definitely stay again, all of the locals I came across spoke highly of the hotel and restaurant and I would agree.

We decided to head to Launceston during the AFL grand final long weekend and it was a great experience staying at Peppers Silo while we sipped away at the beautiful wineries in the region.

Great location, easy to walk to the main part of the town and great views

Pros
• Grain of the Silo is the best dining experience we have had in Australia, the chef deserves multiple hats. The food menu is outstanding oysters, octopus, pasta dishes and scotch fillet steak were amazing and we could not fault a single item (this place honestly rates up against some of Melbourne’s best and has hints of Rockpool X The Atlantic but all with fresh Tasmanian produce). Wine list was very good with some stella choice such as ’16 Domaine A Petit by the glass. Staff were very good and attentive and service was very good
• Amazing breakfast (paid A la Carte) great choices and filling meal the breakfast sandwich was a highlight
• Great feel to the general hotel, good ambiance, places to sit and staff were friendly
• Rooms are big and spacious with nice styling

Cons
• I’m a Gold Accor member, booked a Gorge River Deluxe and was a little disappointed as we didn’t get an upgrade but our friends who are Accor Silver and booked the cheapest Tamar River room got put in to the same room as us.
• This could be a 5 star but lacks in the following areas – bathrooms feel 4 star just plain and simple but could have been a bit nicer as the rooms are really nice
• This place needs a pool and some hot tubs. There is a huge wasted deck that could have been used to accommodate something really special with a river & city view.
• The bar closed early and the hotel lobby was pretty busy BUT there was another bar in the restaurant.
• The coffee is horrible (especially espresso or black coffees)

I would defiantly stay again, especially for the Grain of the Silo dinner menu

Do not book the Tamar River View Rooms if you expect a water view as you do not look at the Tamar river but rather the following.
1. A Car Pak
2. A Boral Concrete factory
3. Industrial Sprawl
4. Bunnings and office works

We booked in school holidays so the rate was high. We paid $330 a night. For this amount, you expect much more than what was delivered.
There was two cooperate events and stays on during our family holiday. Rio Tinto and a Pharmacy thing. This made the whole place feel less like a holiday and more like a business weekend, not great with kids, again paying $330 a night.

Most of the staff were great, which is why there is 2 stars. The breakfast duty manager on our stay was sour and unfriendly.

They also have a dog at reception which is fine but he/she was walking around the lounge without a lead on as we were trying to relax. was very odd, the whole stay was nothing like advertised.

The door to our room has a high pitched whistling sound coming in underneath, we complained at reception and the staff were able to fix it but tightening the hinge screws. The toilet seat upon arrival half came off. The rooms looked more like a motel, no Nespresso machine, very basic mini bar and all cooperate feel, no special touches. Again, $330 per night?

My suggestions to management are - Do not charge more than $220 a night for the 'Tamar side' even in school holidays, you are overcharging guests with that view, especially when you are hosting cooperate stays. Other suggestions is to make the rooms feel a little more special and a little less motel like.

The staff and duty managers were great in helping trying to resolve the issues for our stay. However, I want to be honest here in the hope they can better improve this landmark hotel.

James

Dear James, Sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay with us, we don’t advertise our Tamar River Rooms as having views, rather that they are located on that side of the point. Gazing off to your left from the room you can see the river as it flows into the city and the hills of Trevallyn. Our rooms are designed with recycled local Timbers, our mini bar contains local wines, gins, beers and snacks. Complimentary to all guests is a local ground coffee and tea selection. Our beds have bed throws from the local woollen mill and dishes from a local potter to help you with any snacks round out the mini bar set-up Archie our resident pooch is ex Guide Dogs Tasmania and he helps us support the great work they do with vision impaired, that said he knows reception his is space so rest assured we will assist with some positive training to help remind him where he does his best work. This week I had I retreat that was held at the silo peppers Hotel for the weekend. As I live out of town and we have had house Reno’s for past 4 weeks and no bathroom in that time, I thought it would be a lovely treat for my husband and I to book a room so we could have a shower. After a day of work shops and then dinner, I was looking forward to a long hot shower! As it turns out there was no hot water!! We were unable to contact anyone via room phone so, hubby went down stairs and informed reception of our issue. He was informed that there had been a flood, it was being attended to and to try again in 15 minutes! 2 hrs later there was still no hot water. I went to sleep. Woke up at 6 to get ready for day 2 of the retreat and there was still no hot water. Hubby called reception, they said they were looking into the issue. 7am there was still no resolution, but they were waiting on a plumber. I went to my retreat without a shower and feeling like cray $315.00 we paid for a bed and hot chocolate. The offer of compensation was a coffee voucher! And they waived the cost of a packet of chips from the mini bar! The costs of cocktails $25 for half a cocktail class is a rip off! And the lack of empathy or concern for our situation made me furious! From the few experiences I have had at Silo, it is way over priced and well under delivers! If you have the money to throw around and don’t expect good service or value, then this is the place to book.

Hi the dog only stays at reception , on the weekends he goes home with one of the managers . He was training to be a guide dog but failed the last part of his training . We spent four days at the hotel and probably seen the dog only three times so he is not there all the time People can also take him for a walk . Hope this helps and gives you some idea you can always ring the hotel to give you more information .

Yes, they do but they charge for it. You can park on the road outside unmetered and dead end road so plenty of parking free.
