Since 1872, Nahmakanta Lake Wilderness Camps has been a premier destination for hiking, canoeing, kayaking, wildlife and birdwatching, and some of the best trout and salmon fishing in Maine. Our historic 19th century dining lodge and newly restored, private guest cabins are right on the shores of sparkling, spring-fed "Nahmakanta", often called Maine's most beautiful lake ! We are situated in the heart of Maine's fabled "North Woods" between two trout streams in an idyllic setting of tall shade tress, green lawns and wildflowers. Our unique location and exclusive access make this one of New England's finest wilderness vacations ! Moose and nesting loons are often seen right in front of camp. The "100 Mile Wilderness" section of the famed "Appalachian Trail" is just 1/2 mile away.

This is a beautiful setting on a remote lake, where there doesn't appear to be any large motor boat presence. This means a quiet setting. The cabins were exceptionally clean and warm. Gas heat, propane (?) torch lights, flush toilets, and showers means you really...More

This was our first trip to Nahmakanta, but will definitely not be our last. We were only able to squeeze in three nights at this amazing location. It should have been a week. Angel and Don are amazing hosts and the location is something else....More

Don and Angel welcomed the four of us to this rustic but spectacular place. We drove in on the Jo Mary Road, and arrived in time for a great dinner and orientation on the Nahmakanta area. So I'm just going to cut to the chase:...More

We stayed for 3 nights. The boys had a blast fishing and the weather was nice. The rolls that Angel makes are SO good! Don gave the boys advice on a great fishing spot. A 4 mile hike into a pond. They caught about 40...More

Nahmakanta is a true gem in the North Woods. My brother and I just got back from our first trip there, and will absolutely return. The fishing is fantastic, and Don is the best guide you could ever ask for. He'll show you ponds that...More
