Detailed Reviews
Ideal spot to stay with your pets. The rooms are clean and have everything you need including comfortable beds and a lovely shower. The location is beautiful, very peaceful and not too far off the highway. I stayed for two nights with my dog in one of the units, but the stables, yards and paddocks are of fantastic quality and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there with horses.
Jenny is a lovely, down-to-earth, very accommodating host who made us feel very welcome.

We stayed here as we were driving from the Gold Coast to Oberon (west of Sydney) and wanted somewhere pet friendly to stay along the way. Ned's Bed and Horse Hotel was exactly that. Just off the highway, easy to find, and perfect for animals. The owners house is a little further up the road hidden by trees so you have your own privacy. The cabins each have a fenced front yard and tiles inside so your dog can sleep inside if you prefer. Outside the fenced yard is a huge area to run about with a large duck pond in the middle. There were kangaroo's scattered about when we were there. The accommodation was basic, warm and clean plus the price was more than reasonable. The hosts were lovely and we will definitely stay again.

For any family, dog or horse loving traveller who wants somewhere comfortable to lay their head and keep their animal mate(s) safe and happy, this is it. Jenny and Pete are great hosts and provide comfortable, spotless accommodation with fenced yards to keep doggies in. Our mollycoddled Cavoodle couldn't believe his luck and loved the enormous paddock (with wallabies to chase – don't worry he never got anywhere near them). South West Rocks (20 mins away) was great for Chinese takeaway on our way north. On our return visit, we brought ingredients for a simple meal to cook in the electric frypan provided. We hate leaving our dog behind when we visit our family in Brisbane. Neds Bed was perfect and we will return.

I booked to stay at Neds Bed for four nights with my two Pharaoh Hounds. Upon arrival, I was upset to find that the cabins are side by side and you share a yard with your neighbour. This to me, is NOT dog friendly and poses a safety risk for children who are at risk of getting bitten by a strange dog and your own dogs who may not get along with whom they have to share space with. I didn't see this detail clearly stated on the website and it wasn't mentioned on arrival.
The fencing at Four foot was just adequate but not high enough to contain a jumper.
After a 6 hour drive, we had to accept this but had to keep our dogs locked inside whilst the neighbours tiny dog roamed the shared yard.
The property is a 30min drive from any town. I could find no rules on the website that stated that dogs were not to be left alone at the property at any time nor was it mentioned upon checkin.
I had been asleep in the cabin for most of the day with a migraine. My travelling companion was out but at 4 pm we drove to dinner at the local club. The dogs were fed, crated and safe in the cabin.
At 7pm, the property owner rang me and said it was rude to have left them and to return NOW. This ruined our final nights farewell dinner with my travelling companions 84yr old dad. We returned straightaway and for what? The dogs were fine and fast asleep.
We paid $99 per night and $11 per dog. Linen was supposed to be provided but when I asked for clean towels on the second day. The owner was quite taken aback and didn't want to give me any.
The shower also flooded . . .caused by it having no lip and when I asked for a mop, it was given begrudgingly.
We will never stay there again and will tell our doggy friends to do the same.

Response from nedsbed, Owner at Neds Bed
Responded 21 Apr 2014
It was with great disappointment that I read your review of April 4th as we at Ned's Bed are and have always been an animal friendly accommodation. As the owner manager I always endeavour to meet the needs of our guests and their much loved pets whether this be a horse, dog, cat lizard or canary - all of which have stayed with us at some time. We are sorry that you felt that we did not meet your expectations. We have always found the pet owners who have stayed with us to be very responsible and at no time have we encountered a situation where concerns have been raised for the safety of children or other animals either by pets staying at Ned's Bed or by our own dogs. I am sorry that you felt that the fence was not adequate for your dogs but again we have never had an issue arise because of this. Ned's Bed is not a housing kennel but an accommodation for owners and their pets. In the past we have never had pet owners leaving their dogs unattended for lengthy periods. Again I was very surprised to hear that you felt that the linen supplied over your stay was not sufficient. Our linen is supplied as 2 towels per person per night and this is what was supplied for your stay. My understanding is that this is consistent with other accommodations. The accommodation unit we allocated to you because we thought that you would have the yard to yourself after the first night as we only had guests in the adjoining cabin the first night of your stay. Consequently this is the unit that has the wheelchair friendly shower without the hob. It is obvious that Ned's Bed is not the type of accommodation that would be suitable for your arrangements. Kind regards Ned's Bed

What a great place to stay, excellent cabin with good facilities and an enclosed yard for Hugo our dog. Waking up in such a fantastic location is not to be missed.
There are no facilities for food other than a microwave, cutlery etc. you need to drive to the nearby roadhouse (good simple food) or to the beach about 20 minutes drive away for more choices.
Would love to stay again.

I was running late driving from Canberra through to Brisbane. Jenny and Peter were fantastic and once I had finally arrived made me feel very welcome, even offering to help me bring my bags in. Once i'd unpacked i realised how handy this place is. It has everything you need including a kitchen, yard for the dogs, comfortable bed and bathroom. Most importantly it was clean, cleaner than i expected for a dog hotel. I will definitely be visiting again, my only disappointment is that i didn't plan enough time to have a thorough stay. If your looking for a place to stop on the trip from North to South this is a great place to stay.

We stayed at Neds bed 3 years ago when we were moving from Qld to Tasmania, it was extremely stressful travelling with 2 cats and a dog but Neds Bed made it so much more relaxed, our pets were welcomed, the room was large, clean, comfortable and well equipped so we could rest and relax. Parking was easy and safe with our 4 x 4 and trailer.
Now 3 years later we re moving back to Qld and Neds bed was a quick and easy choice to break up our trip, its nice to know that we have somewhere to relax for a couple of days with our fur babies, and the surroundings are so beautiful and peaceful.

+1
Loved our 2nd visit to Ned’s Bed. The bed in unit 3 is so comfortable I wish I could take it home. Rooms have everything you need and there’s a shop/servo/bottle-o over the highway for supplies. Next time we’ll make it the destination rather than the stop over. 4 days would be bliss. Thanks for the great hospitality Jenny!

Fantastic - a genuinely pet-friendly place. I stayed a long weekend with my 12 year old Maltese cross. The accommodation was all I wanted and needed, it's motel style, spotless, comfortable, with a kitchenette and most importantly a fenced in yard for my fuzzy little boy to relax in. The area is beautiful - plenty of dog-friendly beaches exercise on and within easy driving distance of Kempsey and South West Rocks for cafes, restaurants and take-aways should you need.
All in all the perfect spot to relax for you and your little friend!
And I should apologise to Jenny for not reviewing earlier - I'll do it next week turns into 3 months later - sorry!

We have stayed at Ned's Bed a number of times with our very old GSP and we - and he - love it every time. Jenny and Peter are marvellous hosts and the facilities here are really great for dogs and also appear to be great if you have horses. it is very relaxing to stroll the paddocks and watch the kangaroos grazing. Even without an animal I would recommend Ned's Bed as a comfortable, relaxing place to stay en route to Sydney or Brisbane.
