Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

lovely little cottages built using the old style materials, but very comfy. Recommended the heritage walk around the town by the friendly owners and it was interesting to see a tiny cottage where 17 children survived. Breakfast was full sized and good (except the little sachet of vegemite was two years out of date). Half way between Laura and Wirrabra both of which were worth a visit.

We booked a room at the last minute and were very pleasantly surprised. The staff were so welcoming and friendly and the room was large, well equipped, spotlessly clean and comfortable with a nice outdoor area. It was private and quiet and the take away supper we bought of quiche and salad was tasty and generous in size. This was a definite win and a happy experience.

We stayed 2 nights here before starting the Mawson cycling trail. This is a nice little find in the country, cabins in a quiet bush setting behind Stone Hut Bakery, Aviary and Petting Zoo. Nicer & bigger then you average caravan park cabin, exceptionally clean, a nice new feel, and room to leave your bikes on your private verandah. Mobile coverage didn't work inside but fine on verandah. It was quite warm when we were here & the aircon worked really well. My adult kids dropped us off & stayed 1 night in the family unit (double bed+4 in bunks) which was even more spacious. Whilst this is all behind the bakery & close-ish to the road, all very quiet. Bakery only open 8.30-4 so we figured quieter then Laura Hotel. Brekky in bakery, and pies, cakes etc were also good, and we got other food from Laura IGA on the way in. Would stay here again on the way through, or use as a base to tour the local area.

This place is an absolute gem. We were looking for an overnight stay on the way home from the Flinders Ranges, but just had to stay for two.
Accommodation had everything we wanted an much more. A complimentary bottle of wine, fluffy bath robes and a small kitchen area. Everything was clean and fresh, the hosts perfect and the best bit - the owners also run the bakery next door.
What a bakery. When planning your stay, take into account the number of different pies you want to savour.. There is also a giant aviary with a variety of native parrots galahs and cockatoos, and a petting zoo with friendly (and hungry) goats, llamas (alpacas??) and emus.
This place was certainly one of the highlights of our trip. Will be back.

Our cottage was number 5. Easy ramp access and furthest from the main road (although there was not much traffic at night). Large comfortable queen bed with a double sofa bed. Small kitchenette with plenty of pots, pans, crockery and cutlery.
Tea, coffee and milk supplied.
Added extras were the walk-in aviary and animal enclosures situated nearby.

I was pleasantly surprised by my modern studio "hut". Stone Hut is a very small stop on the road between Quorn and Clare and perfect for a quiet night and excellent sleep. The bathroom was very good too. I did the historic town walk whilst there and also enjoyed a meal at the bakery.

Yes the pies are pretty good. A lot of flavours to choose from, which is good. The chicken and Camembert one was really good whereas the meat in the kangaroo and red wine pie was overdone and cooked in overbearing herbs. The sausage roll was overcooked - extremely dry and burnt. Service was very gruff!! A smile might have made the difference, maybe.

Searching for a unique bakery we found the Old Bakery Stone Hut on line. So on our way back from Quorn on our way to Adelaide we stopped to try one of their famous wild boar pies. Sadly they didn't have any of that particular pie that day but they did have a number of others to choose from. I then decided that it was about time that I tried Kangaroo so I went for it and had a Kangaroo and red wine pie. My wife had a Vension and stout pie which I also sampled. We each had a coffee since we were going to be on the road for still a few hours. Suffice to say everything was excellent and we will be returning the next time we are in the area.

I went for a weekend away to hike alligator gorge and needed a place to stay as a single. I had such a lovely/relaxing stay at stone hut cottages. It was so peaceful and the owners were lovely. It also had some nice touches such as the bottle of local wine and bath robes. I will stay again and pass on the recommendation to family and friends.

Cute cottages in bushy gardens with bakery attached. Clean, well supplied kitchenette. Comfortable bed - we were in cottage 5 but they are all discreet. Checked in to avoid cold front during camping trip. Warm!
